I think it's awesome what Jeff is doing and I think it's great that other folks are joining the effort. I think Elle Woods sums up one of the points well: "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands (or steal bikes), they just don't."

Oh man, the thumbnail is the same lock I use! Actually it’s my “run into the store” level lock. I have a much heavier system for long term out-of-my-sight locking scenarios.

I guess there are some good methods to prevent bike from being stolen: having alarm system is a good idea, chain locks with floor anchor, locking several bikes to each other, using different locks.

For anyone interested in finding the best lock make sure you check out the KZbin channel for the lock picking lawyer! He basically picks every available lock and some of the results will change your perception of what a good lock is!

My bikes are pretty secure on the rack of my van. I put a lock around both of them and put a tarp over them so they don't get damaged by rain and also so people can't see if the bikes are even worth stealing and it'll also make noise if someone takes the tarp off. I live in my van so I'll hear if someone tries to steal them. I'm also gonna install a couple cameras in the back of my van soon. Maybe I'll even put gps devices on my bikes. I love my bikes or at least one of them.

People who steal are the result of adults giving up on a kid.

Definitely a good way to prevent a lot of stupid things, but some are just too stupid, like not riding with helmet even if school is responsible for it, some ride with no helmet or helmet on bars, silly. and then there is bullying that they can't stop, so in some cases it ends up with injured kids, bullied kids, also of course the moron parent that are so stupid they can't help with school work or take care of the kids properly, just enough so they don't get in trouble. I've seen tiny kids crawling on icy road in subzero temps, riding down stairs no helmet, even they ride like a pro, but no helmet really? and those with bikes that fall apart, brakes that don't work, everything is loose. parents not taking care of their kids properly can also lead to bullying, stealing, drug use, stupid activities. poorer the families are more risk of stealing there is. it's important to have good teachers, parents need to do their job as parents if they can't they need to get help, and making sure kids have a social live is good idea too, more people that are around the better, more people that can help then, more people to talk to, to prevent stupid things. And when school,parent, see the kids do abnormal things or start to steal or what eve then report it to parents, children services if necessary, some times those kids can be insane, sadly this seemed to be the case for a Norwegian, he ended up killing people with a car bomb and a shooting massacre in Oslo Norway, sad, shame nobody did anything about him before it was to late. if you see kids tagging, stealing,bullying, abusing others then it can get worse, so stop it before it's too late.

But there will still be drunks that take a bike to ride home, if you don't lock it up. or will still be drug addicts that steal bikes, or thieves that seal to strip them down for parts to throw frame away in the forest and then sell everything else they can sell on second hand online shop. or they strip the bikes build them up, fix them up, and then send them to other countries and then sell them there, also there needs to be strict laws, also I think police should pick up the stolen bikes and notify owner, and people should register their bikes. I've seen many bikes laying several places, once one bmx got trowed into a ditch and then tractor came with grass cutting machine and crushed it. I do my best to Take pics of those bikes I see, and so they can be published in the local newspaper,, that bmx bike was, but it would be better if I could pick up all of the bikes I saw, but I can't always do that, some times I am in a rush, or can't deal with that. but if I had a van, or pick up truck I would pick those bikes up, and deliver them to police station.

How does one register their bike?

@@TheBlackSkimmer go to the bike register website and register by typing in the frame number with all other serial numbers( like invidual serial numbers on frame parts like chainstay, s eat stay and so on, some bikes do have that, also all decent bikes have a serial number on the fork) and add all components on your bike and describe the bike. like unique identifiers, like custom stickers, or paintjob. I don't know where you live, but there is a website, service for it in most countries, some are free, with label requiring payment, some are not free, but insurance is offered too. Also if good idea to take photo of bike with new parts on it, take picture of all of the parts, take picture of whole bike with all of the parts, basically do a photo-shoot of whole bike each time it changes. upload the pics to a picture sharing website, so if it gets stolen you have the photos safely stored on the web and can share them online on social media, newspaper, Facebook groups and so on. I of course have my pictures double backed up too.
