I really like your honest approach to a very controversial topic and I agree with you. As in this sport and others, many people tend to buy expensive things thinking that they will improve when in reality the one with the most expensive equipment does not always obtain the best results. Making an analogy, which I heard some time ago and it says: "the problem is not in the bow, it is the Indian."

I think the big thing that holds the mega bass vision 110s still ahead of the others is the bunch of colors that you can choose from. And with a jerk air color can really play a factor so it is great to have so many options. From what I’ve seen no company has close to the same amounted options

I began fishing more seriously last year and didn’t know about megabass vision 110 , so i was using only The brand Rapala . I quickly found that it was catching fish but it was the only thing i know . Then i saw video of Randy Blaukat who is an intense user of megabass vision collection . Now i have 5/6 vision 110 of all sizes, i dont find they catch more fish and are more fragile than the Rapala , talking about the front lip and paint ! You and Randy are one of the best KZbin teachers out there! THANK YOU 🙏🏻. Ps : I think Randy is pretty pump up about the new megabass X Nanahan ….. smaller ! 😉

Mr. Stefan, I too have an arsenal of jerk baits- Lucky Craft, Jackel, Rapala - as well as an assortment of 110s and 110 juniors. In my experience these baits have the least drift on the pause which differentiates them in very cold water where long pauses and less vigorous jerks seem to match the bass metabolism. The stability of the bait suspended, not drifting up or down seems to magnify its effect when it is ultimately jerked in those conditions. Also in cold water as an added bonus I have caught many very large crappie in a lake not renowned for numbers or size of that species. When the water warms up and the pace of the retrieve can be increased the advantage of this over others decreases dramatically although the silent 110 is still my go to in tough conditions.

I agree with this opinion. Higher water temperatures all JBs are more equal, this difference are becoming more obvious and recognisable when water temperatures drop below 10*C.

Matt, you are spot on with your thinking. I have been fishing for many years and have a collection of jerk baits. A favorite technique. I have a box of vision 110 and like them very much but I also have old Bomber long A's that I like as well. Some of those I have lead wire on the hooks, others with suspend dots/strips. So just like a mechanic you collect these tools over the years. Some cost more than others but some of the less expensive become your favorites that you won't part with. As far as the topic of pricing, I think most things are over priced but if you like it and want it, what are you going to do. Needing it, well that's a different story. Up in pike country I have not bought a MB due to your points. I mostly throw deep models. Berkley Stunna's are amazing! I have used berkley cutters before and they worked but the quality wasn't great, i had a few baits where the entire rear hook got ripped out. yo-zuri 3DB 110's are kind of a sleeper. They are great for the money and catch fish + cast well. good colors and action Rapala shadow rap deep have great action but don't cast quite as well but still love them lucky craft / duo realis also make really nice options that cast great and just work.

I think the 101 original (the shorter lip) is still the best in cold water, that thing suspend perfectly and it has unique sharp jerks that the +1 and +2 haven't. All the Vision and all the MB baits in general still have the best paint job and finishes and top notch hardware IMO. But...saying that there are other brands in which I rely and they are proved: LC staysee 90, LC flash pointer, Jackall Rerange, Gan Craft Ayuja Rest, Duo Realis. I don't know the price in US but in JP they are all below $18

Again.... spot on honest info. Many thanks for not being a Fan Boy, Talking Head, Homer..... I can't stand those clowns. I've always been a big fan of the phrase.... 'The craftsman makes any tool better than its intended design'. Your example from yesterday's vid about a fellow competitor fishing in the same creek as you on same bait and pattern.... but he was dancing his cricket different than you and having a better catch rate 100% agree that jerbait performance has had a huge increase across all manufacturers. Like anyone else i have my favs. I will mention one though, only because it doesnt get alot of press and honestly alot of anglers dont give it the credit it deserves from a legit quality fish catching perspective. The Googan squad Scout and Scout Jr. are outstanding with all the things we expect from a modern day jerkbait. Guessing some subs might not agree..... no worries. Id say buy a couple, fish them, then pass judgment on them. Im a huge fan of Rapala's shadow rap series. Very tunable when one changes hooks and split rings on the bait. Double split rings is another way to add weight to a jerkbait with the added benefit of keeping the fish hooked better. Double split ring is a cross over mod from the river steelhead fisherman. K, I've rattled on too long now. Thanks for the vid, great honesty.

For me it’s about primary and secondary action all baits have a primary action when you pop thru the slack not many have secondary action after more slack is given . Taking the language of airplanes it’s about yaw and roll . A bait that moves on several planes draws more attention particularly after forward momentum has stopped . I have watched the mega bass rotate or yaw for several seconds on slack line . Is that important , maybe🤔

Yes sir Matt!!!! I agree with you on the price. When it comes down to it, do what I do. Crawl into a swimming pool and chunk some in it, go under the water and see for yourself. Hands down,..... you can not beat a Rapala jerk bait. They perform better than any of them on the market. Mossy back color is the best here in the Ozarks. It's half the price of the MB. Will out perform a MB version 2 to 1. Now that Ito painted Oneten plus sure is pretty, but........... pretty don't catch fish. It does add to the presentation but not the catch.

I think the situations that you mentioned where other baits out perform the 110, are based on actions of those baits in different temperatures of water. It is still tough to beat a 110 in 42-54 degree water temps, in that situation they are in a league of their own, in my opinion.

I found oddly enough in dirtier water and in current smithwicks work wonders in comparison to similar jerkbaits, only thing that I can really think that makes them different is how much more water they displace. It's kind of annoying because I usually switch to a medium power rod instead of a medium light because they pull so much harder with the big flat lip. Those vision 110s though have a absolutely deadly steady retrieve. As good or better than almost all my salmon crankbaits.

I sure hope they're worth the money; I just bought 20 of them! Now, if I can just get my hands on that Megabass Destroyer Windbuster Spinning rod that I ordered months ago. I can't tell you how many 6 and 7lb bass I've caught on the Original Finnish Minnow; the Rapala. I always liked the #9-the biggest two hooker-in GOLD, not silver. These days, I opt for LIVE SMELT, LIVE WALLEYE, or LIVE RAINBOW TROUT color in that particular lure. I caught alot of fish on the original Rogue, too. I liked the original Clown color, before they gobbed an inch and half of red on the head, as it is today. But I also still have the ORIGINAL; I have a Rapala Floating Minnow that was in my uncle's tackle box, bequeathed to me. It was still in the original box with nothing but Finnish writing on it, unfished. It's from the late 30s. You can see the hand wrapped foil on the balsa body. That's my prize jerkbait. I like to think Lauri Rapala wrapped the foil on that plug himself, then ate the candy bar it came off of!

Yes they are pricey, and I like Lucky Craft also and they used to be the pricey one years ago and a lot of people bought them also. More like $30 after you change the hooks and the split ring and I love all their color but they're pretty fragile I have Junior 110 + 1 maybe 30 fish on it no paint left except for the bottom so I just bought a brand new one cuz they flat out catch fish 🐟 the detail on those vision 110s are amazing I always have a vision 110 tied on all year.

Great video. Do you have any experience with the 6th sense provoke or the Spro McStick?
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
I havent tried the provoke. I have a few mcsticks. They are decent but not in my top jerkbait choices.
@lightningmusky52863 жыл бұрын
Do you have a suggestion for shallow Jerkbait 1-2 ft? There are definitely lots of good jerkbaits out there. I think with the Vision 110 you should have a couple in your box.

There’s China knockoffs that look like the same mold and same internals. They don’t have the great colors like the vision 110. Have you ever tried the knockoffs when just fun fishing?

I don't think the price is justifiable for beginners or entry level anglers. These bait price points are for tourney money spenders who can write off business expenses.

All I can tell you is my Megabasses get completely mod out of the box from hardware to paint to coatings. The eyes get swapped out for either Jettson Lure Eyes or Damiki pink pearl jighead eyes, but do paint the sockets first with black glitter paint to get that second layer effect. My trailers are made from premium fighting rooster breeds such as White Dragons, 14k, Aseel, Saigon, etc. The Jr's get either t-shirt paint or arcylic pen paints markings such as gills, blood trails, and tail highlights. In this game, only the best will do for me. Sub to KRK and see what I do.

Not a big jerkbait guy. I river fish for smallies from the bank, but I did pick up a couple 6 dollar lunkerhunt impacts that I don't care if I get hung up on something and lose. If I threw a 110 and it got hung up offshore, that'd be the day I turn in to aquaman.

On my body of water (chickamauga) I haven’t found another jerk bait that will outperform the Megabass vision 110+1. Still gotta try the Berkley Stunna but it’s basically a direct knockoff of the Megabass product so the advantages is it’s cheaper and more accessible. I’ll take that though all day. Another great one but not as “good” imo is the Jackall Rerange. Heard the new 6th Sense are solid baits but also basically a knock off of Megabass, hell the eyes look identical to me lol

It's not even my favorite Megabass jerkbait, I'm partial to the Ito Shiner and the Magnum LBO , that said I agree with Matt's point about other viable jerkbaits that at times will equal or out perform the Megabass baits.

IMO, not worth it. Maybe if it was the only thing out there. Now, you can get the same exact body and action for less than 5-8 dollars. If you like to do custom paint, it's only a dollar a pop.
@pauleyplay3 жыл бұрын
You cant be correct. The more you spend, the more you catch, I wish !
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you but I have to add that Im not in favor of companies replicating the exact bait mold and selling them for dirt cheap. A lot of time this can lead to fraud when a dishonest person buys those bodies and paints them to exactly match a megabass and sells them AS a megabass. Just my two cents
@ballzybaits44143 жыл бұрын
@@MattStefanFishing Truth! We're a small bait company and see all these replica of big name manufacturers. We've searched all the avenue and didn't want to carry any knock-offs. We've spend so much time in R&D on a bait, we understand 1000% the effort put into a design and its price tag, hence why we shy away from China made products (no hate on companies using them for their products). We just have a model of 100% US made. I just think the price tag has to adjust to the market.
@brandonelliott53453 жыл бұрын
I think you answered your own question. Why would every company make a design just like the 110 if it wasn’t the best?
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
Like I said in the video it was clearly the best, which is why it was copied...but also why other companies are making much better baits. As the saying goes "The sincerest form of flattery is imitation."
