@ A full brake rebuild kit is on order. I went for a drive and scared myself. A rear axle seal failed and coated the right rear brake shoes with gear oil. Not an ideal experience. At least I avoided adding any more “patina “ to it!😱 Oh well,It’s a work in progress and a retirement hobby. I’m happy how the inside came out. Paint and new seats turned back the years spent on a cattle ranch. Thoroughly enjoying your channel. Has there been progress on this S2A?

1:00. The grille says to me Series IIA, what we call here a WideLight. They were a sort of a transition model, something LR did a lot of, usually to use up parts inventory. That winch mount is horrible....😱😆 I think though that you have inspired me to get back to my 109" SIII tray project.

I own a 1963 Series 11A 88/Short Wheelbase hard top commercial wit 9 previous owners. I also learned to drive in Early series 2 land rovers and think they are simply the best vehicles Land Rover ever made. You are very lucky to live in a dry climate, in UK with Salt on the roads many old vehicles succumb to serious corrosion issues, much much worse than you have shown. The 2.25 Petrol engine really is a peach, a bit thirsty by modern standards but very smooth with a wide powerband and will still run quite well even when very worn out. I have rebored mone +20 thou, gas flowed, fitted hardened valve seats for unleaded petrol and skimmed the standard 8:1 head to 9:1 which improves the efficiency a little without stressing anything. I like Defenders but if I had to choose it would be a Series 2/2A short wheelbase every time.

Very nice Landy, Alan.. Lucky to have found it before me in my turf 😂😂. Hope you will only remove the rust, but keep some of the patina, instead of dressing it up like " Mutton as Lamb" Quite a colour scheme there. Red, blue and finally green... Love it, enjoy it... Think the S2a's where some of the nicer Series Landies, love the Maltese Cross grill, metal dash, upgraded gearbox, compared to my S2 88"....but love my lights on the radiator cover 🤔🤔 Enjoy enjoy enjoy... I've had a few, a series 3 109" safari station wagon 6 cylinder sidevalve, then an 88"series2A ex signals landy with 2,5 chev engine ( not recommended at all), and a Defender 110 county station wagon td5. The 88" was huge fun but the conversion was unreliable. If I knew then what I know now I would have reverted to a landy 200 or 300 tdi or a 2.5 cylinder Landrover 4 cylinder from the Botswana Defence Force. The later is a bulet proof combination with a seies 3 gearbox and Salisbury diff with hyperbolic spring sets. That little buger wa punishing to drive on bad roads...
@TheOverlandLegend Жыл бұрын
By all accounts that 2.5 l engine is a perfect match. Mixing and matching Landy parts can deliver the best vehicle of all. A good old Defender 90 is right up there as the best all rounder for me.

Checked your video again, four months later, 😂😂😂 Very special little truck.. Mine is a 1960 Series2 SWB. When you mentioned the original jack and handle, I could only think how weird the British were... If they designed the jack swivel point so that the crank handle could fit both the jack and the pulley, you would only need one handle 😂. My S2a and 101 V8 has the same jacks and accessories... Crazy. 1. Jack. 2. Long rod with square end, other end round hole for handle. 3. Wooden handle. 4. Wheel spanner. 5. Crankhandle. And adding to the 101 kit, same, with trenching tools. 6. Spade. 7. Pickaxe 8 Pickaxe handle... Did you get the original wooden push thought handle with yours ? If not, I've got an extra one for you.... 👊🏻✌🏻👍🏻

Series 2 has the strongest aluminum body while series 1 has the lightest body with the 1.6 Litre -not as thirsty- gas engine. I wish there were hybrid or factory LPG 3/5 door Series Land Rovers today. Nowadays you have electronic junk as jeep demanding money like a bottomless pit. If you don't have to drive to work, restore a 3 door Series 88, avoid the electronic junk. 🛻🤍
