I've wondered this many times. What if this is all a dream, and one day (not necessarily when you die), you wake up, and you're a whole new age, with a whole different family and life? What if this is all a dream? What if we're already dead, and this is the afterlife, and no one really dies? Or, something I've thought of a lot, what if I'm (or you are, since you'll be reading this) the only real person here, and everyone else is just fake, or computer generated? There's no way to literally transfer consciousness to be another person, so there's no way of knowing. What if you're the only real thing in "existence"? Edit: came back to this comment 4 years later and am amazed at the replies and likes. I’m a bit more educated on philosophy and stuff now so I can see that this isn’t an original thought. But I’m glad you all found it interesting!

Imagine a congress of people like you, trying to justify they are the only "real" person, the others are just fake. Although this point of view (solipcism) is false, you're o' so close to the truth. Everybody is "you" and everybody is also "I." What that means is that we are all the same thing (conscious) viewing itself with whatever can pick up those conscious waves. Our human brains are capable of that, so here we are. Anything that can pick up those waves, is living. Including you. Anything that is involved in consciousness, is life. We all just have levels of magnification (of consciousness) in which we control what we "tune out." We "tune out" that we create the world by of sight having eyes and sounds by having ears. That makes "you" god. The thing is, so is everyone else. (There are no such individual "parts" of the universe, the universe isn't a machine. That means that there is no "You" which is/isn't real. "Being real" is a idea, it doesnt stop you actually being alive. Find out if there is anything that is-not a concept; if you really wanna become internal free. If you agree with what I say, look into Buddhism. It's helped me beyond measure with my old sense of anxiety. If not, I wish you the best on your way.

So while still in my dream i sat down in the lotus position, closed my eyes and.....WOKE UP...in another dream we all call life. Firstly. I love Alan Watts, when I'm on the mood I listen to it and lay on my bed on some sort of a "trip". Sometimes I even put it on a kind of ambiental sound. His speeches and quotes definitely changed my life. Here's why: So, I'm 17 and I have a way of thinking very similiar to what Alan Watts says on his speeches, that are present on KZbin. Sometimes he helps me find myself too, because even though I kind of acquired my way of thinking by myself, being surrounded by the system and people that don't like me could probably influentiate me to be just another one. Please, don't get me wrong, I don't want to offend anyone, I respect everyone and their opinion, but fuck, I would find or think that I was alone if there was no Alan Watts. My native language isn't English, but even in my native language there are somethings that I can't describe. Alan watts sometimes transforms my thoughts into words. I find myself fascinated by the fact that people spend so much time watching bs on television, seeing celebrities lives, following them then again on smartphones, just why? I can't idolize the supposed "celebrities", I honestly couldn't care less about what the fuck they are doing, much less run like a bitch or pay for an autograph or something like that. I mean, I think that everyone should see some Alan Watts's videos, and not the everyday shit that steals their time. Afterlife? I have no idea. I believe, yes. But while I'm here... I'm going to enjoy this trip, and not waste it, come on people wake up. Like, why stare at a screen 24 a day? People and especially my generation are completely blinded and this shit scares me. Eh, I disagree. There's nothing wrong with that kind of life, really. Wanting to watch television, or loving celebrities is apart of the "play of life". You might as well ask the question, "What's the point of dreaming if we will wake up?" or "What's the point of living if we will all die?" I reckon the concept of awakening isn't about seeing the world as a play so that you can look down on it, but so that you can either choose to live as a monk and live away from society, or join society for the fun of it. As long as you're looking for pleasure in this world, you are a part of the play as well. :)

This is so true. I have survived a near death encounter that felt like 1000s of years into a few days while I lay in a coma. Your immortal eyes do open upon physical death or what we perceive as death but really you just find out how much more significant you are. That your entire life as meaningless as it may seem, has great purpose & great potential to furfill a inherant desire of the soul. To live on lifes own terms and be happy the entire time is the only goal I have in life now. Combined with the golden rule treat others how you want to be treated. This reality is truly a mirror were all our thoughts and ideas are reflected back upon ourselves so we can view our own image. Nothinig more than a circular sphere of mirrors in a shared dream where we are all co-creators, Alan Watts words it so beautifully.

I had this dream once. I think the essence of the dream was my fear of becoming 20, I didn’t want to end my teenage years. In this dream I not only celebrated my 20th, but it lasted all the way till my 40th. I was married and had kids. This dream felt like a lifetime. I woke up from my alarm and literally forgot how old I was and what my alarm was meant for. It took me a good 10-20 minutes to recollect that my kids and wife were a figment.

Look at it this way, if the multi-verse is true.. whats to say that when you die, you just wake up in other life and in the other life you expereince how you died but in the form of a dream in that reality, then of course the cycle continues from reality to reality, you experience every possible outcome that could be and since there are infinite possiblities, you are infact infinite youself. god sometimes I wish i knew more people to talk about these kinds of things.

I think about this idea a lot, I feel like eventually you wake up in a reality that humans become immortal and able to transcend the space-time reality, then we wake up to the fact that we’ve been in some kind of simulation to learn,grow and be what we’ll be in that dimension, like how the egg theory describes it. But also it might be just us smart chimps trying to come up with a way to make sense of this crazy experience of being alive. I saw for the first time. We are enternal beings. The world i saw while tripping was so astounding. So blissfull. Only love exists there. But to have the highs we must experience the lows of this life. Our senses are imagined to experience the universe. We are part of it. All together. A higher consciousness allows the dream world and what we call the real world to coexist. Anything is possible. But if normal consciousness was a higher consciousness then we would not be able to experience this. We have to forget in order to exist here.

I had a mushroom trip where what seems best described as the secret to life was being poured into my head by something in the stars. The last statement about God is precisely what I was being told. When we go, we fall into another existence at random, spinning on a wheel, seeing flashing images representing each life and I saw my parents representing this one. I had no emotional attachment to them during this reveal...scary thing is others have told eerily similar tales.

I've had dreams that seemed more real than this so called reality, the properties of physics relating to that dream world seemed to be in sync or at least conductive to that which I needed or wanted to achieve by pure will power. All my dreams are like that. Growing up I learned to control and manage, understand the way things work in the dream reality and little by little I have evolved to a state that when I dream, I no longer need to go about things as I would try on earth. I used to run, then leap far, then fly and now I just WILL myself where and when I need to be in my dream. Even flying seems slow and out dated way of travel compared to the speed of travel via instant thought. I no longer apply the physics of earth to my life in the dream, but instead have learned an entire new way of being. I am not only aware that time and matter are simple an Illusion but can manipulate both at will in order to fix or correct events or dream trajectories i am not pleased with. When i wake up usually, this reality seems antique, as if I was waking up to a reality of limitations, inconsistencies, biased laws of physics, just a watered down, downgraded version of the other reality I call dreams. I have a parallel life that I go to when I sleep, and Its amazing, it takes living this one here on earth in order to value and appreciate the other. Its a place that seems like earth but its one with you and you are one with it, it responds to you and facilitates anything you desire by just Willing it to happen with absolute trust. For example on earth here, you must make things happen but external work and force one bit at a time, the elements will not work with you, matter is not under your mental command. In the dream world everything is connected and there is no need for brute force, Imagination is amplified as a form of vision and matter is at your command. Pain and death are also simple illusions there, if you believe you can die, you will and then wake up, but if you know for fact that you are immortal in the dream world then no matter what you just dont die, in fact in my experience, the episodes that used to relate to dying have stopped after i repeatedly defeated them by simply refusing to die, knowing I cant be killed. its very interesting, and this goes for other challenges in the dream world, one I master a concept I rarely experience it again, instead the level of difficulty and trickiness increases, as if trying to test me in other ways to see if I have truly mastered the idea or not. Its cool, i don't know why it happens but I'm grateful it does. My most amazing experiences in this life have been the ones I have had in the dream world. Nothing comes close on earth. Its like comparing the game play of a PS4 to a old 8 bit Atari. I wish I could dream 24/7.

That's pretty amazing, how you've developed your ability to 'lucid dream'-as a child, this was a more common experience for me! I was just going to suggest you familiarize yourself with Eckankar, o if you're not familiar; it's Ancient teachings, they used to call it 'The Science of Soul Travel,' now I think it's referred to as a 'New Age Religion,' but don't let that freak you out. If you'd delve into it a bit, you might realize that they teach about how to utilize that experience you may be having to further One's Spiritual development! Perhaps ultimately One may realize, that This world is actually the Dream, of our own Creation! ☺

Dr.Z~ One Thank you I'll look into it, and I agree with this life actualy being a Dream of our own Creation, we dont know it but our higher self is the player or creator of this life. it seems that we have a higher self, much like we play a video game with a favorite character, one that we customize to our liking, it would seem this is could be a good example of how life is really. Scientists have discovered many almost 98% of our actions ans thoughts come from somewhere else beyond the brain, we act out what we think we think, but in reality the impulse and master thought or overriding will come from some place else and we only follow it, its all with in fractions of micro seconds but its detectable. So in fact I wonder are we simply a character of our higher self playing a game.

For those of you who want to Wake Up you can learn to control this dream of life. I asked myself, the inner me, "Can I control my reality and if so please show me the way". I found the answer(s) were around me at all times, I just had to ask the question(s) and be aware of my surroundings. Its like buying a new car and suddenly noticing it everywhere you go, your awareness changed. Peace to All =)

I'm really starting to think that I'm in a dream world. Things are getting too strange. I keep seeing omens (good ones and bad ones) everywhere, I keep seeing a variation of the numbers 144 pop up everywhere, I see Angels and Demons in PEOPLE, this painting of a Native American Woman that I've had for years...the woman in it actually exists and I've met her recently. This "reality" feels....surreal. I really think something is off.

If I’m living in a dream then I keep wondering who are all these people around me, is it all in my head… or am I the only one in this dream? All that hard work I’m putting in will all go away when I wake up from this dream I’m currently in, where will I go when I die and wake up? Will my life just repeat itself when I die and wake up I keep wondering that. It’s scary and sad to think about that all the people I love and care about are all inside my head and aren’t real. But when this dream ends I’ll go to the afterlife and live for eternal life Or maybe I’m not even in a dream and everything around me is real, idk what to believe now I’m so confused!
