Thank you so much for this honest comparison! As the designer of the Reflex Live Loop I glowed with pride several times during this presentation :) Yes it's unfortunate that we must stop production due to super high chip prices and scarcity. We might make a new Reflex 2 in the future, but will be hard to mimic the parallel bus configuration. Sandy, SDS Digital

Thanks so much Sandy! It’s a great module, and I’m sorry to hear that the chip shortage claimed another innovative piece! Hope to hear news of a Reflex 2 down the road. Best wishes!

The add-on board is called Flash-8, and adds not only save slots for sample/slice banks, but also adds a ton of midi control, including slice selection and playback, and most parameters on it. So between CV and midi, that little module is a powerhouse. Not only that, but the lady who makes them is a total sweetheart.

Reflex is a beastie. It’s just so unpredictable. Love the crunch and pitch effects. Rather than getting what you want, you want what you get. My favorite trick is there’s a sweet spot between sending it a slow irregular clock and hitting record. It lets you do pitch effects to live sounds. Thanks for doing this video. I’m always looking for other folk’s take on the thing since it’s so inscrutable.

Long press play effects and the two outer leds will light for an auto slice remix effect.

Absolutely agree on the unpredictability, and good tips too! Thanks!

The clock ins are great and the layering capabilities of this thing remind me of an Oberheim Echoplex.

I've used this module in every patch since I bought it two years ago. Never even used slices, just playFX. Seeing you do this inspired me to read through the 3 manuals again, and there even is a clocked slice sequencer?!? The learning curve is steep, but it's stupidly powerful with the right modulation.

Morphagene was the deciding factor that finally made my mind up to begin my modular 😃 That live loop has a very lunar lander module/chernobyl control panel aesthetic that makes me want it though! 😂

If you like glitchy weird samplers you should see if you can track down a Harvestman Tyme Safari mk2. It does crude granular, slicing, live record, and it’s a delay. It’s interface is perfect for live performance.

I would love to see a video on how you do all of this with ableton now glitch/sample/splice/... As I think you sold a lot of your modular right ?

Hello, i know it’s a fairly old video. I have a question with nothing plugged into the Inputs of your Morphagene. And the gain stage set to -3dB with the new firmware and the sos knob turned CCW to monitor the inputs do you hear very loud white noise or sound like someone is sucking threw a straw?

Why would you close Morphagene? Because it’s available! Thank you for a great demo though! Looks like a fun module

What I like about the morphagene and how I use it. Is sampling different variations of loops in perfect length, and jumping between them with CV. It's great for that but the biggest deal breaker is the digital noise it creates. So if anyone knows some alternative what could achieve this then please let me know.

Heh. Would have been good to watch this six months ago, BEFORE I bought the Morphagene- my decision might have been different. I shall stick with what I have- but thanks for the overview!

What do you think Beethoven would have composed, were he to live as a contemporary of ours?? I had to ask, after the very first seconds of this video!!! :D I just found your channel, I'm liking it! You have great humour! :)

Thanks Jorge! With regards to your Beethoven question, I have no idea. Haha I imagine he’d be pushing boundaries and blurring lines just like he did in his own time. :)

Availability for these has decreased quite a bit since I made this video a year ago. They’re difficult to find anywhere now unfortunately.

@@JamesonNathanJones Indeed, I just discovered that they're going to stop making them. Shame that these small companies get discouraged, but maybe if they made their modules more easily available they'd be surprised at the reaction from buyers.

The LL sounds like manipulating a CD and the MM sounds like manipulating a tape machine. My intent is to emulate mid-20th century electronic music so the Morphagene is a better choice for this, IMO.
@JamesonNathanJones2 жыл бұрын
I agree. Live Loop is definitely a digital sounding module, but in an intentional and good way. I love them both.
