Took my GF to see them in Dallas. She heard me talk about them, but had no idea what she was about to see. 25 years of going to concerts and she said it's the best one she's ever seen. It actually moved her to tears a few times. Absolutely blew her mind. They're fun to listen to, but to see them live is some next level shit. Masterful performers.

I was the same. There was something there that turned me off at first. Was it the Poppy Choruses (even though I'd be humming it all the time), was it the maid uniforms (even though they explained it for the shock value), was it the stigma of people thinking of some middle aged Western man getting "off" to some young Asian girls playing music.........That's when I thought "Fuck It." These ladies rock. Even my wife questioned me till she heard them. She even loves them. Band Maid is not only the best All Female rock band I've ever heard, but they are one of THE best rock bands today. IMO they ARE that good. The mix a lot of different rock/metal/punk/pop styles in their music, and they are "rockingly" diverse With KZbin you can see how much they have progressed over the past 5/6 years, and that's down to bloody hard work. Rinne/Reincarnation is their heaviest song to date, however, not necessary their best song. Resistance is futile with these girls and once finally you open yourself up to their music, you'll find Music Nirvana. Also check out their First MV Thrill kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM then their Latest, MV Blooming kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4bXkH14gtSWga8 to see how far they have progressed. (they are mid to late 20's)

You've hit the nail on the head: they're amazing live. I'm an old fart who saw Deep Purple 3x, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Savoy Brown, Nazareth, Queen, Jeff Beck 3x, and a whole bunch of other bands, and the Band Maid concert I saw in LA was as good as any of those shows. They did 25 songs without a break and absolutely nailed every single one. I subscribed just to see if you'd eventually fall into the rabbit hole, and it looks like it's imminent...

Love your honest reactions. As I was listening to your critique, I think that's why Band Maid has such a high appeal. The music is gritty and driving, but then couple that with a more pop oriented melody to make it accessible to a wider audience and you have a winning formula. Just my thought. As to their ability, Kanami, Misa, and Akane are all classically trained multi-instrumentalists. That, along with the high level of discipline in Japanese culture, is why I think they're so proficient with their level of skill. After-thought: The first song you did was "Play" live. They have mentioned in interviews that they wrote hooks with "yeah, yeah" and "la la la" so international audiences could sing with them. But they've been pleasantly surprised with their recent US tour that American audiences still sing with them in Japanese even though they have no clue what they're singing.

I think the very dedicated either learn Japanese, or learn bits of the songs, and the people with that kind of dedication are usually the ones who start queuing up after breakfast, so they can get to the front. Most, I'm sure, could at best recognise the words, but couldn't join in.

Well, they are good because they practice a lot and some of them have profesional training. Akane and Misa, drummer and bass go to the Tokyo Music School, a school for professional training. Some of them learn music for a very early age, and also in Japan is compulsory to learn one musical instrument in a lot of secondary schools. The only one without a solid and long background in music is Kobato who learn to play guitar from Kanami, who btw is a great admirer of Carlos Santana. There´s no much information about them.

If you want to hear how good Saiki is using good, old fashion RnR cadence, syncopation, inflection and soul into her vocals, check out Choose Me: kzbin.info/www/bejne/np_UoH2thauLhs0. It takes genuine rock-chops to come up with that melody / lyric delivery. And rather than trying to compare Band-Maid's sound with other bands, like GnR, they have earned (after nearly 100 songs) to be known as having their own sound, "the Band-Maid sound." It's undeniable and distinctive, signs of a true supergroup, IMO. Great observations and reactions, BTW! Keep going, Grump! ;-)

Why are they flawless? Most Japanese school children learn to play musical instruments, and at the college level a lot of Japanese become seriously proficient. It's mostly classical training, but we know that metal is basically a form of classical music. So when they break out and decide to do rock and metal, they're ready. In spades.

Give it a while and you'll just accept Band-Maid have a "Band-Maid" sound. They don't fit neatly into any box, but play just the first 10 seconds or so of this song (Alone) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXfYnJ-Edq5-eJo and even if you didn't know, you'd recognise it as Band-Maid. Saying that, you might prefer this one (Puzzle) kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYDYgGOmnKh1i9E which is another of their heavier ones. With their hooks/choruses not being quite your thing, it might end up that there'll only be a few songs that you'll really be into, but most people are like that with most of the bands they like in general. If they become an acquired taste though, you'll find a huge amount to your liking.

I remember watching an interview of the band, and they said that they didn't even really know about rock/metal music until they formed the band. Each member has their own band such as: the lead guirtarist, Kanami, loves Santana; the drummer, Akane, loves Maximum the hormone..., but generally they just called that "cool music". Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that was true, then the music they have been making were just Them, Band Maid music.

Ran into this a bit at first with this band where the choruses just seemed kind of out of place, but after listening to pretty much every song they've done, these choruses and stuff aren't poppy, they're just feminine. It's a rock chorus sung by a woman in a feminine manner instead of attempting to just copy the way that guys do it. That's why I really love this band, because you don't hear that with female led rock groups in America. Even the good ones almost always sound like they're just trying to be one of the guys and these girls just don't, which understandably bugs some people as it's different, but I don't think different' is necessarily poppy, and it's really grown on me to the point where I prefer it. If you want to hear real pop rock as a comparison, go listen to Scandal and you'll see the difference. They just released a new song called A.M.D.K.J, or if you want a throwback, go listen to their first single, Doll, to see why I describe them as "If Joan Jett ran a J-Pop girl group." Or, if you actually want to understand the lyrics, their MV for Masterpiece actually has English subtitles.

I kinda think it’s also the way the Japanese are with their songs. I noticed it with this band and another band I like called The Gazette...they sing by what sounds like short verses to me, ‘cause their language is structured in that way, and it will affect the sound of the song. An example, kinda random but still, there’s that kingdom hearts song Simple and Clean that sounds different than the Japanese version Hikari.

I am so glad to see your genuine reaction to that "call and response", but if you want to see another epic 5 vs. 6 string battle...this is going to blow your mind...it gave me chills all over kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKDUdqWYetxja9E I hope you will enjoy Akane's powerful drums when those girls go head to head again...cheers

Its almost as if the hook on its own is awkward on first listen, but as their songs progress if kind of becomes the anchor that all the rest of tbe song plays around. After tge hook you don't really know what they will throw at you throughout, but they always return. Really a testament to lead guitarist Kanami's song writing prowess... Miku has said from the start he r goal was workd domination...lmao..always cracks me up, so I suppose ig that is your goal you need a nit of pop in there. But otoh, it just seems to be a feature of most Japanese rock-metal, likenits a law or something. About the only band Ive sren totally disregard that is Dir En Grey... kzbin.info/www/bejne/earZeol5aduIacU

this song i'd file under the band's more classic/straight-up rock sound.. Freedom is another one kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIqqlIJ4bbiSd68 they tend to have a lot of fun with this one when they play it live how are they so good/consistent? they've said that they meet up at least 3 times a week to rehearse, on top of individual practice time.. which, i don't know how they manage that, coz it seems like they're never not touring or doing appearances for interviews/PR. it seems like they've been going full throttle ever since they initially gained some traction.. can't lose the momentum. their live show seems to be their #1 priority.

I believe I've seen in more than one interview with the band that the choruses & the yeah yeah yeah, na na na "poppy stuff", is done intentionally. With the language barrier & wanting to appeal to people around the world (World Domination) they wanted songs that their fans could sing along to & that they absolutely love the audience participation. As a person who saw them twice this past year, I can say for myself anyways, it works & in my humble opinion is brilliant on their part.

Random observation, I've never seen your channel before now, (been looking up Band-Maid reactions because I just found them myself) but you remind me of Greg Olsen the football player for the Panthers. You kinda look like him, and you sound very much like him just your voice in general but also your mannerisms kind of. I dunno, it just struck me almost immediately when I started watching.

Band-maid is not a metal band as you might've already realised by now. Their song structure is quirky yet special. For hard core metalhead BM are probably not instantly appealing. Lovebites and aldius are more straight metal - power metal and they are amazing at it. I'm not their fan though. Band-maid definitely incorporates different genres of music in one song. That's what sucked me into them.

It's such a shame that you can't just listen to it because you are obviously being singled out for unfair attention. Even people reacting to the latest songs (Blooming) have no trouble at all. I also feel sorry for you because every time I see you you are wearing a hat inside and quite often a coat it must be really cold all the time. At least your house looks nice.
