Is this one of the OLDEST working BOATYARDS? | BOATS FOR SALE [Ep 138]

This week I embark on my last solo cruise to take the boat to a boat yard while I prepare to head off in the camper van to Europe for winter. Wincham Wharf is one of the oldest boatyard stills running and contains lots of small independent businesses. I chose to leave my boat with Narrowboats Limited (Narrowboats Ltd) as they offer so many boat services and I even got to look around some amazing boats for sale including a brand new Wide Beam Boat.

After selling my house to experience an alternative lifestyle I bought a canal boat and a camper van which as a solo female who loves to travel, gives me the best of both worlds. I have recently got myself a new addition to the crew, a fabulous companion - my little rescue dog Bonny who is an absolute joy and the perfect First Mate. I also work full time off grid from my tiny home and trade at canal festivals as The Narrowboat Pirate aboard The Pirate Boat.

Greetings from Central Portugal. We have a righthand drive car and it's no problem. We have a sticker on the windscreen. It's a roundabout with an arrow going around to the right to remind you to go around to the right. Been here over two years and no problem. Maybe draw one and sit on your dash. Safe travels. A little advice Heidi from someone who has traveled with dogs. A 1st aid kit for Bonny. Have a list of vets in the areas you plan on traveling to/through. Your vet may very well have something to help, in case of an emergency with Bonny. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. 😍

Will you keep making videos from your camper adventures? I’ll miss you if you don’t take us along for at least occasional glimpses. And your little doggie. Will Bonny be accompanying you? Might make traveling more complicated but I’d miss her. I only do stacations because of my two dogs and my cat. I travel vicariously by video enjoying your beautiful English countryside, villages and bridges. I love those old stone bridges. Love your music too. Sorry, but I always have to lauch when you are talking about yourself like an middle aged woman, while you are still like a lovely fresh spring chicken. Bonnie is looking very happy, and it was really lovely to see her running around, I hope that you have some tapes or CDs in your van with French dog barks, so Bonnie is used to them when you get there, and she could possible answer them in their own barking language. Glas to see that you had the right kind of new shoes put on the van, you may need them, and they are obligatorily, unless you fency fighting with chains, they are the far easier solution. You seem to be very well prepared, and I wish you both a fantastic fun-van-time overthere. Of course also my very best wishes and excellent health for 2024.

Hello Heidi ... Wahoo ... we're off to Europe. I have my KZbin subscriber passport and have packed up my keyboard ready to travel. Looks like there is plenty of room in Polly for all of us so everyone will tuck in and ride along. Bonny doesn't care ... she's going with her Mama Pirate and that is just fine by her. I don't envy you having to switch sides of the road but you've navigate the canals and made it through some ragged locks so I am guessing you will adapt and get the hang of it. I am hoping for a seat up close to the front of the caravan ( I don't do well in back seats) but I will adapt to whatever is available. Don't worry about driving on the wrong side, it's dead easy, just follow everyone else you will quickly get the hang of it. France is wonderful for campervan, the Aires are usually free and most have water and toilet emptying points. Some even have electricity. There is no need to pay campsites, just wild camp. Xx

What a "magical wonderful day" indeed. Thanks for showing it and sharing it. My first boat was 26-feet long and 8-feet wide. My second/last boat was 40-feet long and 11 feet wide. My gosh that brand new wide-beam boat is huge!! I call that boat "Fancy"! 🙂 And yet, yes, why have a boat like that, in country like you're in, when you can't cruise the boat in the canals. Oh gosh, haulout cranes here when lifting a boat of that size/weight use THREE straps in case one of them breaks. That boat in your video on only two straps scared me. The crane was rated at 41-ton yes, but what if any frigging single thing breaks on that crane? Oh, I loved that little 38-footer narrowboat. Wish I had the money to buy her and just keep her there for summer cruising. "Why Worry"? Indeed. Obviously Bonny is NOT worried! 🙂

Hi Heidi, well I never thought I'd ever be talking serious to you 🤪, your last cruise looked amazing, quite haunting and beautiful. So ...... The Pirate has become a Highwayman, tis still a job for a professional Rum Wench 🥃🥃, I used to like driving in over the water because once out of town it's a lot easier and quieter than the UK, just don't cock up coming off the main duel carriageways ( OK, the Brussels ring road is six lanes wide 🫣 ) they do not have roundabouts like we do, you cannot just turn around. I'm sure you will be organised, just enjoy your time away, be careful and enjoy it, as you know from your past, life is an adventure, live it. Big hug to you and Bonny ❤❤❤

took my little fiat 500 to Switzerland in 2018 with a wedding cake in the back! solo trip having never driven in Europe before took her up snowy mountains and everything!! sometimes wondering if she would do it with the cake in the back. it was worth the trip the scenery on route was amazing. well worth it! you'll be fine have a fantastic trip!! oh the wedding was held in a monastery in a small mountain village it was brilliant! especially as there was snow.

Dont worry about driving on the other side of the road because most times there will not be the traffic that you are used to here. There are still places in France where traffic from the right has the right of way , signed Priorette a droitte but most of these are in small villages. When leaving campsites in the morning is the time to be careful to make sure you exit on the right not the left. But you soon get used to it. Have a really great time and enjoy your journey. Chris

Well you must be on your way by now. Have a wonderful trip, just listening to you is hearing my own fears about driving in England. Enjoy vanlife. It’s wonderful. Of course I want to try narrowboat life. But that would mean selling my van. Can’t have both. So in the first instance I’m going to try the van on my own without my husband. He used to do all the driving, last time we were in the UK. The other fear, backing…. I know I hate it as well, until I got a reverse camera! It is the answer to world tension! Hope you can send a vlog or two. But the main thing is just enjoy. I want to do the same trip. It will only be in a year though.

Good luck on your European Adventure ! I’m surprised you can fill your LPG bottle yourself. Over here in the US that job is always done by the attendant. I travel to Australia a lot and my advice for driving on the “wrong” side of the road is stay focused and avoid night driving until you are comfortable with your new situation. Cheers!
