When a person says something nasty, I always say that their comment tells me so much more about them than the person they are making nasty comments about. I am so glad it doesn’t stop you Heidi, you are wonderful! They have the choice to not watch you!!! Go figure!!!!

Loved this, I did boot sales selling stuff I cut from old carpet sold at local auctions… getting up 4am on rainy days sometimes setting up and making nothing… but there’s great days and experiences and people you never forget.

As you are travelling around solo, how do you manage with being near both the boat & campervan at the same time?

I do not have a Canal but I have a 360 mile long Hiking Trail where I am a Volunteer Trail Maintainer for a 10 mile section. I take a weekend where I hike and cut and spend the night. . I use the same Tools but have switched to a Battery Operated STIHL Chain Saw and Pole Saw. Saves almost 12 pounds and fit into my Trail Maintainer Backpack. My method for removing trail blockers is to start at the top and cut it into easy to handle pieces instead of cutting down a 12 foot limb which I have to wrestle with. I use a small COME A LONG to pull the branch down into Saw height if I need. I also deal with 30 foot tall and 2 foot thick trees which cross the trail. On trail sections that can handle it, the U.S. Forest Service Contracts a crew with a small farm tractor with articulated Large Cutter the can be adjusted to be flat on the ground or 15 feet in the air. This unit was adapted from a Highway Model. I would think the Canal Trust would come up and place one of these on a wider boat and trim back the Forest while drifting down the Canal. But to each their own.

one of your many interesting and educational videos. Showing the work of the unheralded volunteers is a great tribute to the efforts to keep your canals open. ever think of using a grappling hook to hold the workboat in position. you may need a boat hook for retrieval though

Hi Heidi, you may or may not remember me, Lois, half of Lois and Tim. Narrowboat MilliMaize then Widebeam MillieMaize You bought a piano accordion off us when we were in our Widebeam at Grapenhall. We hadn’t watched your Chanel as we feared it would make us feel sick and depress us and make us want to be back in the water. We’ve just binge watched over the last 10paid, every night and enjoyed every minute but yes, we’re now missing the boat life immensely. We’re looking after a caravan park in Scotland which is wonderful though. Also just converting a van to a camper. Keep it going. We will be watching every week now. One question. What happened with your security system that you were going to get dad to install?? ❤
@TheNarrowboatPirate2 күн бұрын
When ? Are you watching them in order 😂😂 I’ve cameras on the boat and security in the van …. Boat life and van life are very similar but the van is a lot smaller than our massive gorgeous wide beam you had 😃🏴☠️❤️
@millimaize2 күн бұрын
Yes Heidi , watched every one in order, they were white, you stuck them up on a temp pole and said you’d have to get dad to fit. Would go back to a boat in a flash if we could xx Errrrm, we’re waiting to see you go to York 😅

Hi Heidi, thank you for showing the dedication and effort all CRT staff and volunteers put in across the network to keep our canals and rivers flowing. Life certainly is better by water.

Heidi have been watching you and Bonny for about 18 months. You inspire me to want to crew a narrowboat. I live in Flintstone, Georgia USA...have been to the UK several times, love it...the people have always been nice to me. Tell me what you suggest I do to see if this is really what I want to do. I am widowed and retired, still in good health and don't want to miss out on any of life.

I realized that you could increase the circulation of warm air in the Rum Wench if you were to put a heat-powered stove fan either on the stovetop or fastened to the stove pipe. They're not very expensive ($60-70 in the States), but it would quietly move some air and keep you and your Best Mate comfy.
@TheNarrowboatPirate2 күн бұрын
I’ve had a few they are noisy and I prefer the kettles on the stove for washing up … the rum wench has 2 stoves and is very toasty so all is good 😃😃

Such a daunting task... It's lovely seeing these folks volunteering their time benefiting the longevity of the canals. It's unfortunate that the government does provide better funding though. Bless 'em, volunteers can only do so much, so fast, with so few.

Another interesting video. Hats off to all the volunteers, they do the job because they want to and I find it astonishing when people slag off the CRT, as if it is the volunteers fault that things don't always get done.

Dear Heidi you have always produced very interesting and informative video's. One in particular stands out it was about the homeless veterans who were given the chance to make a home for themselves on a narrow boat.? I don't think that you know how this has caused people to ask questions about how politicians have allowed this to happen. Not only to veterans but to whole family's living on the street at the young age of seventy five I can not understand why this is going on. When there is so many empty buildings every where .give the homeless tools and materials to make a home for themselves in these buildings ?? As for the canal volunteers they are the only people that are keeping the canals running smoothly.. I take my hat off to them for giving up their time to help keep the canals operating.
