Hi all, have a 7.5 tonne lorry camper myself and would like to comment on your battery concerns. Firstly you need to take care of both your cranking batteries and auxiliaries. More batteries are destroyed by under charging than over charging. Make sure they stay above your system voltage. Using an inverter could take them lower than is ideal. Be cautious. Hopefully your solar is keeping the auxiliary batteries 100%. Be glad to advise, Mike

In 1982 we travelled Morocco in a Birmingham Double Dekker bus, converted to a campervan, with about 16 of us inboard (all in our 60s or 70s now 😂) . Maaaayte, it was great fun!!! The tea was so sweet! The showers in Campgrounds were guaranteed to have a fresh poo on the floor! 😂 I drove the bus through the Sahara desert... (I was only the courier, so completely unlicenced 😂! OMG!!!) ... Playing "chicken" with the trucks coming towards us, like, "no way can I move to the side of the road into the sand (we'd capsize!!) so you'll have to"... And as long as we hung in there & squeezed our eyes closed & didn't give in, we'll they caved & went into the sand & we got the road. Aaah the memories! Such fun & sooooo exciting. I can't wait to join you in your travels. Keep those little darlings very, very close, always!!! ❤❤❤

Happy new year for 2024,Engine oil, coolant, spare belts, fuel filter, wiper blades, a 24v trickle charger to keep your truck battery’s topped up via your solar powered inverter, your power loss may be for a tacho/ driver digi card unit that you don’t need? And can be disconnected, a secondary spare whee, and an adapter to blow up tyres from your vehicle air system? Good luck and stay safe and most of all enjoy your memory making trip experience. ❤

Good to see you guys off Africa. 😅you had us in stitches about losing a child and still having two spare. Hilarious! So we are off skiing in the school hols. We always go by car. But not just any car. A BMW i3. We’ve been doing this for the past 5 years. We have always thought about documenting it. Think we will. We plan to do something like you guys are doing but we sold out kids already to life 😂 they are older! We have a caravan and we’ve taken it off grid! Being a Physicist it’s been interesting. Victron is our choice of controller and Eco Worthy batteries and PVs. We’ll share some interesting findings for you. Have you got Lithium batteries? Haven’t seen that part of your build

Interesting about insurance, as here in Spain our Insurance covers us for Morocco as it does in Spain, must just be the British insurance companies. Welcome to Morocco 🇲🇦 u will enjoy your trip xD when in Tangiers you have to see the blue city Chefchaouen / Tetouan before hitting the road to rabat and on your way to agadir you have to pass through Essaouira Sidi kaouki .. and all . If you’re looking for snow it’s more likely to be in Ifrane it’s near Fes and itms called the Moroccan Switzerland . Very interesting to see . When in Morocco , true be aware of beggars and do lots of haggling , try lots of food , the Moroccan cuisine is a blast and you have to try the Moroccan tea it’s non negotiable 😂 . The Moroccans reallyyy love children and you will be welcomed for sure. People will be there to help . If you ever need help , reach out

You should carry three main BODGE kits. Bodge kit 1. Assuming you have Air Brakes, at least make up a kit and learn how to manually disengage them! If an air line breaks or gets cut you are disabled, being able to disengage a single brake or axle may help you move enough to get to a safer spot or make it possible to get towed. Obviously this is not so you can carry on driving around as usual, but maybe get to a repair station without the expense of being recovered. Do a bit of research on how your brake system works, then if possible find someone who can show you where things are and what tools you might be able to use / have / need. Bodge kit 2, fuel system, don't worry about the high pressure side, if that breaks you are buggered. A small quantity of flexible hose (of the right size) and jubilee clips might get you moving on the low pressure side. Bodge kit 3, coolant / heater hoses, you will have some spares, but the one that splits will not be one of them. So carry at least part of an old inner tube, cable ties large enough to easily fit around your largest hose and a pot of contact adhesive. The above are called Bodge kits for a reason, don't rely on them as a repair, just a get you by for now. A bicycle puncture repair kit and two cable ties reduced the number of times I had to pee in the radiator just enough to get me to safety once........... If you can't afford a spare wheel and Jack, please at least get a plug kit and 12/24V compressor! If you can afford a spare, a 6 foot piece of scaffold tube for the wheel brace would not go amiss!
@ianhere9290
@ianhere9290 Жыл бұрын
You should have a spare wheel, jack and wheel brace. Other essential spares are oil, air and fuel (x2 at least) filters, fanbelts, coolant hoses and light globes. You can be sure that any spare parts you carry will never be needed. Conversely, you will always need the only part you don't have.

As an ex truck driver and mechanic I second that also should get a kinetic recovery rope and learn how to use it safely
@alanhat5252
@alanhat5252 Жыл бұрын
@@robertgray753KERRs (Kinetic Energy Recovery Ropes) are military & *_only_* used between 2 hard-skinned vehicles (tanks etc) as they can tear lumps off the vehicle & throw them straight through a soft-skinned vehicle like your lorry. A friend of mine reports that a tow-point & 5 metres of KERR whizzing past his ear & straight through the windscreen is the most terrifying experience he's ever had. Ordinary polypropylene, nylon or natural-fibre ropes don't throw stuff far & just fall to the ground within a few metres when the hitch (or rope) fails. Sometimes they'll whip sideways so nobody should be anywhere near it while it's tight. Wire ropes cut through really easily & whip more than fibre ropes. Chains also tear lumps off but usually fall dead.
@alanhat5252
@alanhat5252 Жыл бұрын
@@TouringwiththekidsI second the pile of consumables & would seriously consider adding spare alternator, starter motor & water pump. Also, replace your dodgy battery clamp, they're a couple of Euros & take 5 minutes to replace but a vapourized battery post is a whole different story. My Dad used to have the mould & crucible needed to replace the post but I've never seen another & they went to scrap years ago.

Hi I just watched the video being a trucker for a number of years I used to carry wire joiners and push fit air pipe joiners and cable ties, as for not having a spare tire I would recommend a puncher repair kit and a small compressor this will cover small punctures like screws bolts etc this can also help by blowing out keeping your air filter clean. Ow and a good duck tape I am sure you already have most of this and probably won’t need it but good luck and have a safe journey look forward to watching the videos

Happy New Year to you all. About 40 years ago I took the magic bus from London to Athens and I've never looked back. I'm still planning further adventures at 62, luckily my husband thinks like me, our now adult children are the same, one in Canada, one that just spent 3 years in China and the 25 year old baby that's going to new Zealand in September. They know there are more good people in the world than bad. You're going to be fine 😊. Ccomfort zone's don't exist we're all the same there's good and bad everywhere. You'll be fine because you're open, smiley and accept everyone's differences 😊

Hi guys, thanks for your videos, I look forward to them. You have had plenty of advice above about the spares to carry, expensive to stock up, but all worth it, especially filters, wheels and hoses. Those batteries need checking/changing before you go, without a doubt, jump leads,or a jump pack are a no brainer. Now here's the best thing you could spend a little cash on, hire an HGV mechanic for an hour and have them show you how to use your spares, where the filters are, how to wind brakes off, how to access alternator, starter, air dryer etc, where your airlines run, (many trucks have a port on the driver's seat to plug in an airline to inflate tyres for instance) how to rig jump leads. This knowledge will save you a lot of money in the long run, you may even be able to do some of your basic servicing. Best wishes.

Hello lovely people! We really think you need to get your batteries sorted before you go…also, it worries us that you cannot get into your cab in an emergency if you need to drive away quickly. Get your lorry serviced before you go - I used to drive one of your lorries for a living. From what we’ve seen from other bloggers, it’s not an issue getting your vehicle to Morocco, it’s getting back again which seems a bit of a nightmare! We hope you have an amazing time and looking forward to the videos.

Practicalities ! At Algeceias pull of M/Way at exit 112 and get your tickets from Juan Carlos the only agent who prints out your vehicle papers in Arabic saving you hassle at the border. Many campsites can get you prolongation de residence so you can stay longer that 90 days. Camping Sindibad at Zagora is super for a long term stay and gets your P de R.

I was once in the desert of Tunisia on a Camel with a guide back in the 1970's with my boyfriend at the time. After a while the guide stopped at a watering hole. Made us tea that was very very strong and as I don't like sugar in my tea, (I knew they loved lots of sugar in tea), he put in a bit of crushed almonds and it was really really nice and flavourful. A hint for anyone going for a camel ride in the desert. It can often be very windy and very hot. So cover your face and head as much as you can. I got badly burned. It was well worth it though as I have always had a fascination with the desert.

20:23 have you considered an _automatic changeover valve_ (or a manual one) in your LPG system? Your underslung tank has the same gas at the same pressure as a *red* (propane) refillable bottle so it is _just_ switch the valve over when you run out though you won't have a level gauge for the bottle so you might want a spare. (I expect you'll board the ferry with both tank & bottle full).

Hi Guys, As you have plenty of solar & an inverter why not buy a couple of small induction hobs, electric kettle & an air fryer. Get low wattage ones. Easy to stow away when not in use and then you can cook independently of gas. Check out Gadget John who has gone completely gas free - If he can do that in the UK you can definitely do that in sunny Morocco 🌞 Good luck!

Exciting, we went to Marrackeh years ago. Obviously the locals are not used to seeing blonde hair blue eyed children, so you may find they get more attention. We experienced this with my husband’s older son. And as far as haggling goes, halve the price they initially start with and go from there. If you are still not happy with the price then start to walk away and they may chase you to buy for your price. Always works a treat. You have to do good cop bad cop. 😅. You will soon pick it up, bit of banter goes a long way. Have fun guys 😊

You CAN buy LPG in Morocco. What you cannot do is refill an underslung tank. To get around this buy a gas bottle, and appropriate fitting, in country. Not ideal but it is a way around your situation. Just for your info LPG is the main source for cooking and heating in the majority of dwellings in Morocco.

British born Moroccan here. Morocco is safe for children. It’s safe for everyone, like you said with everywhere you go, just be safe. You’ll love Moroccan mint tea. You be there for Ramadan to, approx starts on 10 March for 30 or so days, the day time will start off kind of slow and the evenings will be vibrant. Fruit and veg in the market is the place to be, cheap and fresh. Make sure you drink bottled water. Supermarkets will have everything you’ll need, a little pricier but won’t break the bank. You’ll love it.

Ric, if you ask they will make the mint tea without sugar, "sans sucre" in French. I have had several interactions with Moroccan police, and always found them very pleasant and polite. Be careful of thieves, especially in cities. Don't use a handbag. Morocco has good resourceful mechanics. Surprisingly, they sell batteries in both Spain and Morocco. Don't worry too much about spares and repairs.

Happy New Year guys. Sounds like you've got a great trip planned, definitely somewhere we may go once we get on the road. We plan on going full time with our 3 kids later this year. We've got an imported American RV that we're doing up and renovating. I can't wait to get out there now. Hoping to do UK stops localish to us (Essex) for a couple of months before heading down to Spain for winter.

It's my pleasure.love watching you and your family.your my favourite escapism. Ps I'm familiar with your battery issues. Please check that it is not just old batteries. I believe you can purchase LPG in Morocco, but they wont refill your tank. I believe you can get an adapter and Gerry rig your cooker to their bottles, although probably not the best or cheapest solution. I use a multi fuel cooker that I run on diesel, but I’m not cooking for a family of 5. Maybe BBQ a lot or get a braal. Best of luck to you and have a cracking new year.

Regarding bartering, approach it with a del boy attitude, even after a negotiation and they say final price, don't forget its your say, just turn your back and start walking away from the seller, (they mostly probably) will try to start at a lower negotiating price
@BendsMusic
@BendsMusic Жыл бұрын
Just think of the UK marketers (clues in the name) they give you all the chit chat making you think you're getting a great deal. Simply because people in the UK don't know how to barter, (hence always use the Del boy attitude)

I have had mint tea in Morocco and to say the least its a acquired taste. I am not quite sure at which point the put the sugar in but if you can cut out that stage it might be more palatable? As others have suggested I hope you have watched the Roaming Radfords videos on their trip to Morocco. They are very informative and might give you a few tips on places to visit. I have only been to Casablanca so my knowledge is very limited!

Firtsly, let me say how much I love your videos. The kids must be having the time of like. Far different from a wet weekend in Skegness😂. Secondly, it would be a good idea to fit a snorkel to your engine intake to reduce the the amount if dust and sand entering your precious engine. If not, take several air filters and fuel filters (poor quality of the deisel). Do not forget you emergency tyre reoair kit. Also make sure you have an external connector to your compressor(to inflate your tyres) sorry if its stating the obvious. ENJOY YOUR TRAVELS.
