Those little Perkins motors are brilliant and well worth saving if possible. As an old diesel fuel injection mechanic, (oh so very old), I have worked on many and I reckon it won't be too long before they become sought after like old Listers are now. When you take the injectors out, always remove the back leakage pipe that runs across the top of the four injectors. As you said, it is a frail pipe and the brazing at the joints loves to crack if you give it so much as a harsh stare. I reckon with a good clean out she'll run. Good luck mate and here to help if you have any fuel system related questions. All the best.

Very interesting stuff I’ve just done a rebuild on a partial sunken boat. Alternator . Starter motor. All filters. Injection pump service. Batteries and most wires probably. Main fuel tanks probably contaminated. All x2 They might run again with a few quid but not sure I’d want to trust them to get me home with just a quick spin dry. I’m watching with interest.

@ The one I’ve done was in a terrible state much like his. ( except mine is twin om636 with Enfield z outdrives ) If I’d known then what I know now I’m not sure I’d have taken it on. That is to say it’s taken 3 years, I’ve done the work myself and not had to pay anyone its cost in the region of 10k to get it to a very average diy standard. With basic upgrades going forward I expect another 10k would be needed. I could have bought a nice up and running twin diesel sunseeker 32 for the same money. All that being said I’d watch the videos if you do decide to commit to the work. Bit negative maybe but I wished someone had given me a good shake and face slap before I started mine. I’ve just bought another project boat.. I have an illness .
@NarrowboatWill2 күн бұрын

Is that the original exhaust and silencer supplied with the heater? If so they're only suitable for use externally on trucks and can be lethal fitted internally. They leak exhaust gas, which contains lethal levels of CO. Either way, make sure you have a couple of working CO alarms when using.

Another interesting and informative video from you will. I noticed a comment about the injection pipe work ib a Perkins engine .he is absolutely right about this . The only problem I have come across with a Perkins engine has always been down to seals leaking. They seem to run forever .as long as you maintain them regularly.. As for the ticking sound this is normal it's the pump drawing fuel for the heater. Turn in the engine in your van and you will hear the pump ticking as it draws fuel for the engine. Anyway will as always keep yourself safe and well mate. Filthy thumbs up 👍👍👍

@@NarrowboatWill Hi will I have been thinking about your problem with the Perkins engine .. Perhaps I have found the answer for you . After a bit of digging on the web the Perkins engine company has a spare parts catalogue for people to download along with workshop manuals.. I also believe that they have complete overall kits available for all of Thier engine's.. Knowing that this engine has been under fresh water in convinced that it can be saved. Probably it will needed a complete strip down And you may be lucky to only have to clean up the cylinders with a bit of Emery cloth. If it had been full of salt water then you would be looking for a new engine. I only wish I was still able to work on engine's I would be there in a flash mate By any chance is this your son's new boat.?? If so he definitely likes to give you a challenge.mate. Anyway I hope you find this helpful.. keep smiling mate and keep yourself safe and well.

Hi Wil, I have a similar heater for my shed and it works very well. the flue needs to be sealed , or you will fill the boat with CO (Carbon Monoxide). that silencer box has a drip hole which will vent CO out into the boat, so isn't suitable inside the boat. Be careful!

@RichardSmith-cn9mx2 күн бұрын
The heater you refered too on the inlet manifold is actually a "Flame Start" the unit is connected to the return diesel line and when you turn the ignition switch to glow/heater an element in the unit glows read hot and eventually the diesel burst into flame, you will normally hear a "Pop" when it ignites,then you turn the switch to crank the engine. thus sucking a flame into the engine. I think you are some time away from trying to get it running.
@NarrowboatWill2 күн бұрын
I don't think this one's working. 😕

Nice , I do like your new diesel heater though . They are great , lots of heat for minimal fuel . Just keep an eye on the Co2 . Get that exhaust sorted out tout suite .
@6ddevil2 күн бұрын
I could be wrong Will, I had a Chinese diesel heater..I think the exhaust on the diesel heater should fall downwards and the small hole on the baffle thing at the end should be down as it can drip condensation, obviously it’s a carbon monoxide danger so make sure it routes out.
@NarrowboatWill2 күн бұрын
