Mike at 24:40 on the Babe Ruth auto saying it doesn't jive to him and his expert thinks it's fake. Mike at 36:35 on the Babe Ruth auto saying we had the whole story and it just made sense. Mike said the fact that the Ruth came back real is not surprising. Literally the exact opposite of what he said at the time of sale. 🤦♂️

@CHASINGCARDBOARD that wasn't the point. The point was Mike said during the buy he didn't believe the story and did not think it was real but after it was authenticated he contradicted himself and said the story made sense and he wasn't surprised it was real. What's real is he was full of crap one way or the other.

at 25:39 you ask why Ruth would be in Lakeland, Fl, which is where the Tigers have always had spring training, since Ruth played in for the Braves in his first spring training (and last season ever), and your Letter from the witness says 1935 on it, so most likely it was signed during that month of spring training 1935! Also, the Tigers won the World Series in 1935, so you probably have signatures signed at the beginning of that season, and since it was Lakeland you could probably make a team set. I sold one a few years ago. There were a lot of Hall of Famers on that list, congrats! Also, thanks to Goggle for how I figured this out, love the show!!!

I appreciate the honesty when you deal with the sellers in the show. You tell the facts- storage costs, shipping and other overhead costs, so the seller has all the facts as to why you are offering what you do. I know you should do fine on the wax sales as many of the boxes do have value- some don't , but even those can be fun to open. I do think Marcel was way undervaluing the wax and glad you came back with a much better offer. What happened with the records and comics? I hope someone was able to help the gentleman out with those. The vintage cars were the most impressive part of the video. Good luck with sales.

10:59 -- Those Shaq Classic sets are undervalued, if you're a hobby nerd -- those sets and the Shaq pre-contract Classic cards were the reason there were mail-in redemptions from Upper Deck (others?) for the "nameless" top pick in the draft. Shaq signed with Classic and no one else could make his cards until he signed his contract and officially joined the NBAPA (the Players Association) -- after that, the mainstream companies could produce Shaq cards, and he appears in a lot of "Series 2" packs in 1992. Big news in hobby back in the day! Another sign at the time that this dude was a big deal, next level -- we'd never heard of such a thing at the time!

Firstly, thank you Ty, Mike, and Chasing Cardboard team for another great episode. Ty: Your empathy, and the way that you carefully break the news to the seller is a skill. Ever thought of a career as a hostage negotiator? 😃I honestly think you'd be great at that too! That Babe Ruth looked spot on, so I'm surprised that Mike, Frank (who initially thought it was good, but then wasn't sure), and others Mike spoke to didn't like the look of it. Frank does a great job in his analysis of baseball autographs, and I'd generally consider him more knowledgeable than a faceless PSA employee - that's not to say that the market agrees with me though. People can, and do, make mistakes. Story certainly checked out, and all aspects of the signature looked legitimate to me. PSA agreed - again, not that I think their word is Gospel. That was a very generous offer, and what looked like unsellable stock (apart from the obvious gems on the table). Looking forward to the next episode. Keep up the great work, lads. 👍
@BaseballCollector8 ай бұрын
It wasn't that we didn't like the look of it. Both Frank and I thought it was good initially. We then sent pics to a VERY credible source who told Frank and I that it looked like an obvious forgery so that made us pause (all off camera). People watching the show need to remember that we were there for the better part of an entire day and we only show 30+ minutes of everything that happens. Ultimately, we did the best thing which was to send it in and PSA rendered their opinion that it was good.

Some of the people in these comments need to understand labor cost You all act like Ty pays $10k and drives down the street and gets a check for $20k Yeah he’ll make money but he pays $10k plus hours and hours of labor cost. Listing and selling a collection of that size is a full time job . Labor isn’t free. Everything he makes off this deal isn’t pure profit

PREACH! The team definitely grinds hard to make us some great hobby content! And yeah, it costs a lot to travel all over the USA.

Agree. Just b/c someone had a certain notion that drove their collecting does not translate to the reality of the market at any given time.
