The irony of meeting a man at the start of the video born in 1933 and ending the video with the man with the best collection of signed cards from 1933 is amazing. Please let us know when Marty's book comes out. The guy should have his own KZbin Channel. Another GREAT video by you guys!

Funny thing is we had a "card Collectors Club" in Middle School in the early 90s and the teacher who ran that school club was a believer in writing fan letters to players and all 7 of the members of the club starting writing letters, I personally got back 4 autograph replies. Troy Aikman, Andy Pettitte. Haywood Jefferies and Mike Stanley were guys who responded to me and it was the greatest feeling in the world to receive those letters/Photos/auto back. 30+ years later it is one of those reason I still collect today.

Great episode!!!! Ty, I thought you were so kind and respectful towards Harold. You listened to him and tried to explain the “junk wax” era. You even offered him gas money. No way you could have handled that situation any better. Props to you and your team. I so like the story of Marty’s collection and his passion for the 1933 autograph Goudey’s. I would love to read his book when it comes out. Thanks Ty and team for putting in all the long hours to bring us some really neat shows. Your dedication to the hobby and sharing people’s stories and their cards is awesome. 😊

He might have thought that you were trying to pull the wool over his eyes, which wasn't the case. Marty has a brilliant collection, and the right mentality! He's an inspiration, and I hope he continues to expand his collection for his enjoyment, and for future generations - and hoping he smashes his goal of completing his book. Fantastic!

I absolutely love this episode. My son Wyatt and I started writing to players about 2 years ago and we love the experience. I spend my breaks at work organizing cards and writing some letters to send. The coolest story is we sent a letter to Scott Bailes who now works with the Springfield Cardinals ( the AA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. A week after we got the cards signed through the mail, we took Wyatt to a clinic for kids at Hammons Field in Springfield and we were quite surprised to see Scott Bailes talking to the participants. I approached Scott when things were winding down and I asked him if he could meet with Wyatt and how he was the one that sent the letter. He said absolutely, and after the event was over Scott went to the dugout and grabbed a baseball to sign for Wyatt. I took a picture of them together and they talked for about 10 minutes about the letter and baseball in general. It truly was an incredible experience and we now have those memories to last a lifetime.

Definitely sensed he was offended at $200. I had an older couple where their son owed them money and they had his cards. I knew it was 1990-1992 basketball. I didn’t even take any $ as I knew I’d just offend them. I showed them an article about junk wax and the prices in ebay for the sets and told them to give em to a grandkid or a neighborhood kid.

Man I really feel for you on that first deal because I know exactly what you were feeling man! Especially from an old person like that that don't understand that don't trust people all that much and thinks that they have something when they really don't and you have to tell them that I'm sorry but these are worthless and they're not worth anything but they think that you are trying to get one over on them when you're trying to tell them the truth and the older gentleman didn't understand that you were really giving him a good deal by offering him $200 for those cards because they were not worth it and sadly he probably will try to sell them to someone else and they are will to tell him that they're basically worthless and not offer him even close to what you offered him. But you are a really good dude you really are fur offering him $200 for those cards bless you

I remember back in the 90’s when I was in elementary school I got a book at a book fair that had pro athletes addresses so that you could write to your favorite ball player. I spent countless hours writing to every athlete in that book, and the only responses I got were from Atlanta Braves players. David Justice, Ron Gant, Otis Nixon, and Fred McGriff. From that point forward I was and still am a Braves fan.
