Yeah that's what I thought was the case. 6 days of 11 - 12 hour runs is ROUGH. And yeah, even with jammed door with where he was at it wouldn't have been enough. He needed 5 HOURS. At most the card would buy 3 hours, but even then with how often trains run in that area it just wouldn't be feasible to get that much time. Maybe if they messed up a lot, but I definitely understand kind of giving up.

@@lordalex027 if you think about it for Jammed door, waiting 10 minutes per train vs waiting 30 minutes -1 hour makes Jammed door pretty bad. You just have more tries per hour in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka compared to other parts of Japan. When we see Jammed door get played both times by Ben, it was super impactful because of his own location being quite remote so the others were forced to wait for quite some time. This is one of the big downsides of going for a city like Tokyo.

@dedark5067 nah it was not really going to win. The problem was that he picked Tokyo which is one of the most easily accessed locations of Japan. He may have had some good curses but with the rate that Ben and Adam were deducing his location he couldn't really hope for a long run

I think the best strategy for Sam would have been to use the move card then not move, it would throw Ben and Adam off, and asking the same questions is more expensive, so they would likely have a different dataset.

Would've been countered by a question that cannot be answered if you're in the endgame, once they know you didn't move at all, you just wasted the most broken card in the deck, Sam had the right idea imo just misplayed it with not playing Cursed of The Jammed Door, that single curse might've easily won him the game but we can just treat it as Sam losing the dice roll lmao, but it's not a bad strategy, just a really bold one that's either the biggest IQ play or the biggest throw

​@iamnoob8835Doesn't work as well in dense city areas since there are multiple routes you can take to get to the same route. Bus routes are also open so you are banking on wasting a lot of time on failed door rolls

I think if there was an actual prize on the line or it wasn't with friends, Sam would have been far more ruthless. But everyone was at the end of their rope and the game is just a fun time with buddies. Also on the podcast, Sam explained he was in the city because he missed the train to a Ski/hot spring resort. Man has his priorities straight.

I think he realized it during the day that he just didn't have enough time on the last day, except getting extremely lucky with time bonuses. Even if we assume that he passed through the day, it's just around 11 hours max (I assumed that they end the day at 9 pm). So the only valid strategy to go pass that maximum hours from his run was to basically get a bunch of 30-minute bonuses. That's also the main reason why he didn't use his jammed door card.

@@fadeidham2932Yeah, and don't forget he basically lost an hour of game time with that move card. If sam wanted any chance at winning, he'd have to make it to the end of the day and get 2-3 hours worth of time bonuses. I just wish that they articulated that in the episode to avoid confusion...

Last thing is the main problem if I understood correctly he needed huge time bonuses to beat the winning run even if they didn't find him that day

I think there needs to be a few rule changes to prevent exhaustion/last run bias: - Runs need to be more equal. Each runner should get a distinct time period, i.e., 2-3 days maximum, with each hiding period separated by a 2 day rest period or something. This ensures run-on don't happen; and that they aren't chasing eachother for 6 days straight. - Introduce some kind of catch-up rule. Maybe the person in last place gets +15 minutes hiding time or something. This could throw off the seekers and gives them a larger roaming radius. If that's too much time, balance it. Yes, these would reduce episode output speed slightly, but I think it's absolutely fair to prioritise their health over the game. Also, they should definitely not be wearing running shoes. Those are not good for your feet in long-distance walking. Get rid of those blisters and buy some horizontal shoes.

I agree with you on this, I think even adding just an halfway few days break period when everyone has had a run would be good. Additionally I doubt it will really reduce the episode output speed since each season is recorded in advance and 5 months apart. (at least with the latest Europe Tag and this season) So I believe the major reason for the delay in episodes is the editing work of the episodes as they probably cut a ton (days probably) of footage since all three of them are recording for several days. The other delay reason is probably deciding what the next season should be, where and who if they do have a guest join them.

Just to answer to the strat is to go to a place a train cant get to, the hiding zones were stations, you needed to be in the general area of a station, thus a train.

More specifically they mentioned in a previous episode that a train had to make a stop there every hour IIRC. Mainly to stop the game from just being go to the area that only has a train servicing it once every 4 hours or a day and then just win off of that. That'd be lame.
