Xiaomi are the 4tth largest phone company i have been using the phones for the last 4 years so would have no problem installing their software i have not had any spywhere with there phone software but fully understand concerns with something that comes from china plus i too have many phones with no sim so would use one of those ,i have seen this car on sale but would not like anything that is controlled by a phone ,

Not only the spyware on apps but vulnerability. I got a free wifi connected thermostat for my house, I could program it via my computer via an app, then got a notification that their server had been breached and hackers gained access to the network. This meant that they gained access to my computer which too had all my customer's data, banking info, financials for my customer etc. That's the problem with all these smart devices....more devices = more risk of penetrating your network via their servers. How secure is the server for a toy car or a door lock?
