Hello I'm happy that others miss the Hemi. Thanks to Reignited - Cycle and Automotive for the contribution. It's a disaster that they want to let the Hemi die. Yes, the Hemi is not perfect and has its flaws. That's exactly what they have at Ford and GM. I come from Germany and drive my second Ram 1500 5.7l. Despite the fact that the cylinder head gasket on my current Ram was defective, which was probably a material defect. I love the Hemi V8. And no inflated, sophisticated 3l junk engine will ever be able to replace it. Downsisng has not yet produced a good engine. This merger with the French to form Stellantis is the biggest mistake. They had 5 years to develop a new Hemi V8. And not to offer this junk engine as a replacement for a legend. My suggestion would be: Ram 1500 6.4l V8 450HP Ram 2500/3500 6.2l supercharger 530HP Ram TRX 6.2l supercharger 750 HP And for all other models in the group also a V8. That is until a new Hemi V8 replaces this. Example: 4.5l supercharger 450HP Please people don't buy this 3l I6 piece of junk. Put fire under the ass of FCA and especially T. Kuniskis. Brings back the Hemi V8! Bring back the legend!

Best part about the hemi is all the spark plugs are in a row on top! But seriously I work in a shop and 99% of customers don't ever open the hood to their vehicles so most buyers may not be buying the vehicle based on engine options but cabin comfort and feateures instead. I am glad as it seems that when Dodge decided in 2011 that all caravans went to ONE engine option it was the best choice. That really showed buyers were not concerned with engine options but made serviceability easier with one engine. Dodge may just be putting some engines out there for the every day people to buy and betting on other features to sell. Emissions may also have something to do with it. The hurricane engine may be suited for a particulate filter if that is ever mandated for gasoline engines.

So those are all pluses in my opinion. I do agree that the loss of this engine is going to hurt the Dodge, and Ram brand the most. I am not fully convinced that this is a top down from Stellantis type command. Or even if it is, it's due to the current government regime pushing out more and more EV threats at the automotive industry. All in all, I'm glad to be the original caretaker of my car, and been able to own it and care for it. I hope I get to enjoy it for many years to come.

It feels faster, and it is faster, than my hemi grand cherokee. I am jealous. Don't be fooled - this turbo six can and probably will be a better option than this hemi.

My Jeep gets 16 mpg and sounds anemic unless I mash the gas...as a throaty exhaust would sound ratty when the MDS kicks in. Stellantis is installing this 6cyl into its RAM 1/2 ton pickup. Most people with 1/2 ton pickups use them as a car. If they do the turbo system right, it can make full rated torque right above idle. Having all that bottom end will make for a fun ride.

They intended it for a bigger turbo setup on the ecoboost 2.0 but guys were adapting then to keep the valves clean from carbon and getting a nice evaporative cooling effect for tuning from them as well. We have to blame Stellantis, and our current government for this. Unrealistic gas mileage requirements, combined with a corporation sympathetic to climate politics, this is how we end up with products we don't want. Governments want to tell us what we want, and dictate the market by taking away our choices, when we really just want freedom. Dodge cramming 6.2 Hellcat motors into everything was the greatest expression of freedom I've ever seen. We're going to enter a new malaise era because all we have now is the Mustang, and back in the early 2000's, when the Camaro discontinued, and all we had was the Mustang, Ford got lazy. They took the previous 2V 4.6 motor, updated it slightly, and said "good enough". We got a cool ass Mustang, with a weak ass motor that pops at 500HP. The Charger/Magnum/300C wasn't really much of a competition. The return of the Camaro (With the 400ishHP LS3 is what forced Ford to get off their asses and make the 5.0 Coyote motor. Competition leads to innovation. And nobody wants an EV. They're too expensive to own and maintain, and really don't do squat for the environment.

They got away from serving the common blue collar working guy that wanted a simple work truck with zero frills and instead decided it was a good business model to cram all sorts of nanny tech and so-called luxury crap in even their Tradesman line of pickup trucks with MSRPs of $60,000 and we can see the sales are still taking a hit on them as a result. A simple 4 door 4X4 pickup with an 8' box and rubber floor shouldn't have an MSRP over $40,000. The hurricane is going to be plagued with issues as squeezing that kind of power out of that I6 isn't going to bode well in the longevity aspect even with premium fuel. Q: Is that I6 direct injection?

Company values and opinions only go so far. Market trends and consumer reviews are king. IF they get to making actual production vehicles and they flop in the market and consumer reviews they'll reevaluate their opinions and ideas. Even if they don't like it they'll conform to what the market wants rather than dig their own grave or they'll sell the brand to someone else if they don't want to bother. Not saying they'll bring the hemi back but they may come out with something more on par with it while still conforming to todays tech requirements.

Look back at Mopar history. They're V8 engines have died before. Those of us who have been around for a while are used to it. Be happy we got what we did over the past 15 years. Get used to re-badged cars from here forward. Selling Americans an inline six is a losing deal. No one wants that.

@MH-rb7lp9 ай бұрын
You are making the mistake of thinking that Dodge/Mopar management gives 2 craps about the hemi or power for that matter. They are only concerned about revenue and they have convinced themselves that the public wants (deserves) low power high gadget vehicles. I would contend that most car companies are so far out of touch with their consumers it is not funny.

Well, that takes Dodge off of the table for me. I have no desire for a straight 6 or one with dual turbos. Who knows if this hurts Dodge in the long run.
@ardennielsen37619 ай бұрын
looks like they finally started making overhead camshaft engines like ford has been for the last +30 years.

It’s really sad. Carlos Tavares is completely mismanaging Stellantis. They do not understand American buyers at all. Loved the V8 Hemis and now I will have to buy a Ford to get the Coyote V8 in my new car when I replace my manual Scat Pack since Dodge is now dead to me. Even if they offer the hurricane six pot on the upcoming Charger, I’m not interested as I’d rather get a Supra with a manual if I wanted a six cylinder car and it will likely be the same price while weighing much much more.

I think it is really easy to say that Dodge lost it's spine on the choice to ditch the V8 but I would argue that I don't think it is that simple. Ford, for example, has far more non-v8 vehicles or exempt trucks to it's name than Dodge does. This means they can have CAFE numbers that allow them to produce a V8 in the Mustang in perpetuity so long as regulations don't change. Dodge by comparison basically only makes performance oriented vehicles and literally all of them up until recently had V8 options. Unless they were to spin out a bunch of other high MPG or electric vehicles there was just no way they could meet regulatory averages. No redesign V8 could make up that difference. Should they have seen that coming? 100%. But things are what they are now and I just don't think they actually had other options at this point. IMO, the best we can hope for is that they manage to do what no one really has and make a truly compelling electric vehicle such that they might actually be able to bring back a V8 in the future. As the owner of 3 V8s, I'll be crossing my fingers for that.

It's partially the fault of customers who rewarded Dodge and co by buying the same outdated engine and vehicles year after year. Both Ford and GM made a new V8s that were more efficient and modern whereas Dodge didn't do anything and now here we are.

Funny you say "outdated" when the standard 5.3 in the Chevy has been around just as long. Their 6.2 is only 20-30 more HP and 40ish more torque. I'm not sure about the 6.2 but the 5.3 Chevy and 5.0 ford and EcoBoosts torque curve don't perform as well on the low end as the 5.7 Hemi. The 5.7 had good priced versions for people needing a truck but didn't want to break the bank. Obviously high level trims got pricey but those aren't the ones you see everywhere. They are easy to work on, tons of parts and has a nice growl especially after a few bolt ons. The 5.7 is the epitome of don't fix what ain't broke. They all have their problems but from my experience the Hemi has easy to prevent and relatively easy to fix. Anything you need to replace there's a video on it. My 2015 before I traded it in almost had 500k kms on it with only minor replacement and maintenance. Maybe that's why I'm biased and maybe it was built on a Wednesday but the wife likes Chevy's and so did I growing up but the amount of time I've spent fixing shit on all her vehicles over the years has turned me off from the bowtie
