I have the p801 and the action is sort of gritty, but is fine for 30. I just ordered a pyrite alt last night to check out. Was going to wait on the light, but I’m sure the initial stock will get sucked up quickly.

Thank you! I prefer the thumb stud over the hole. the full size pyrite is my current EDC of choice. My only complaint is the lock seems to have developed a crunchy sound. I know I need to take it apart and clean it. Thanks again!

With all the variations cjrb does with the pyrite, it can only be a matter of time before they do. That bowie version is my favorite for function. It operates better than every other pyrite I have. ✌🏼🤘🏼

Nice knife, seems like a flipper tab would've took it over the top and made it even better. Before the hate bomb detonates, flipper tabs are the best deployment method for arthritic hands and fingers, gross motor skills keeps us rusty knuckles in the folding knife game more than buttons, holes and thumb studs.

A few companies (Sitivien comes to mind) have knives in 14c28n (which, in my folders at least, has done better than AR-RPM9) for that price range (micarta scales, liner lock...got a pair of these when they were on sale for 15$). Fit and finish are comparable to the CJRB folders I have.

I couldn't agree more with what you said about QC and price. I have a crescent knife in my hand right now that I paid $11 in D2 off Amazon. It is manufactured just as well as my $200-$300 knives where QC is concerned. Are the materials as good? Is the design as impressive? Does it have as many nice features? NO... But the QC is just as good as any knife of any price because if a knife wasn't built with the basic features of a pocketknife done well then it isn't about price, it's about QC.

yeah , i mean mr. thomas didnt really say anything bad about the steel itself. it all had to do with a little bit of misinformation which was completely unintentional. they made a mistake, they kind of fucked up. i think this just goes to show what an outstanding company cjrb is. this could have happened to a smaller company along with a ton of haters and it would have been a wrap. cjrb has nothing but love and support from the knife community in which the vast majority gave an easy pass to a simple mistake.

Nice review! Not a “lefty” in my case, but , I haven’t experienced any CJRB or Artisan pieces that had major faults. As it relates to Kershaw’s comment re: the expectation for $100 😢.., shame on them. It’s obviously apparent to all knife-nuts that manufacturing costs in the US far exceed those in Asia.., but geeeesh! At a base minimum MAKE UP A RESPONSE to an honest question that promotes “Customer First” professionalism vs. a snarky remark!!

I have this knife and I am not impressed with the action at all. I can fail it about 1/3 of the time opening or closing it. The pivot has been adjusted and I checked for any burrs in the plastic. The button likes to stick in the depressed position. It's not a "fail", but it's not a home run either based on my example. I wanted to love it as I enjoy super light knives which are cheap enough that I can abuse them vs. my Hogue Deka in Magnacut. With that said, I believe that there are tons of sub $30 knives that I own which are better than the one I received. I enjoy button locks and in particular CJRB button locks as I own a Frack and 2 steel Pyrites, but they don't display the action issues that I see with this Pyrite Light.

You received a review sample which didn't come through the consumer pipeline like mine did, making it much more likely to have been hand checked (if not cherry picked) before it was sent to you. We both know companies do it, so let's not assume that your sample of 1 is indicative of the average sample in the consumer pipeline, as it certainly isn't indicative of my sample of 1. Based on your experience and mine, I have a 50/50 chance to get something better. I have already decided to send it back to them for repair so they can figure out why it is hanging up, but wanted to provide feedback on the reviews for this knife of my experience so that others are aware. I have had good luck with CJRB knives so far and absolutely adore my Frack, but I have no problem calling a dud a dud when I receive one, no matter who made it.

@@lynnjr457im not sure what you are trying to say here, but I was just saying, you can return it for a new one, since you bought it from them or Amazon. I have had 10 or so pyrite button locks of various kinds, and have had 1 that was a dud. It was actually the most premium version i bought at a show. It bound up within 10 mins so i took it back and they refunded me. So i guess thats a 90% Positive rate. Atleast in terms of QC, not aesthetics or anything else. Sending it in makes perfect sense as well. Either way I think you will be happy with the “detent” once you get a good one/they fix it, but there is some background if it helps explain what I was saying.

As a lefty as well, button locks have been so disappointing. I can usually make liner locks work just fine, despite technically being hand oriented, but button locks just aren't convenient and so few are made in a lefty model. Fingers crossed, because lefty budget button locks for lefty's from CJRB would see them a lot of knives.

I personally think the QSP Parrot is a better $30 knife, simply because it isn't a button lock, but rather a liner lock. I have a bias against button locks. I don't think they're solid enough/trustworthy (for a locking knife) and I don't like how they feel to actuate.

Ive tried having a knife made in the US for 2 years. On our 3rd factory and haven’t gotten past prototypes yet. Soon as I get it done ill let everyone know. In the meantime China is making quality knives for great prices.
