Click here to check out the Seestar S30 for yourself: store.seestar.com/DAMON I'm really excited by this tiny powerful telescope! I was fortunate enough last night to have some clear skies that meant I could be one of the first people on the planet to try it out. It did not disappoint! Even beneath a Full Moon it's taken some pretty spectacular images for a $349 Telescope! I'll be posting a video comparing it vs the S50 over the weekend as well as a video detailing how you can make amazing edits to your photos for free, in less than 2 minutes! Stay tuned and clear skies! :)

Super hyped for that! I’ve just started with astronomy since I just joined the Astronomy club at college. So far we’ve used 8in and 6in conventional telescopes and I was wondering how this would compare? I live quite near to London so the light pollution is intense to say the least.
@luboinchina3013Ай бұрын
I was thinking about ordering one and selling the S50 because if its narrow field of view, but the new firmware and ability to stack mosaic wider field of view saved the trusty "old" S50. Now I can image the Orion with The Running man nebula and still have some space left on the sides, making it more beautiful bigger resolution, easier to crop, photo. Also Andromeda and pleaides can now actually fit in😃

Spectacular!! As someone who has been passionate about astronomy from a young age, I've finally decided to take the plunge into amateur astrophotography. This telescope looks like the one for me!

I have the S50. For the money it's amazing. They are great for beginners too in teaching them the night skies. You'll obviously have folk who'd rather use more conventional scopes and I get that but these are super portable and take less than a couple of minutes to setup and start using.

Great video, Damon. One thing that was missed is the incredible active tracking. You can actually track planes and cars and stack the images. The dispensable nature of these telescopes is the downside. However, what our current deep sky mounts lack is active tracking of larger objects.

I was going to buy the S30 but the larger S50 collects more light and has more detailed resolution . The software is the same for both including the framing feature. While the wider FOV is attracted with a smaller aperture the detail will be less.
@hgfghn371Ай бұрын
Hola. Saludos

S30 has a better sensor Imx462 vs Imx662
@davidstearn1342Ай бұрын
@@JustRollinIt had less read noise and is more light sensitive. But, the S50 collects more light than the S30. You will get a larger FOV with the S30 but less image detail and the wider FOV will only be of benefit for a few objects. The differences in the sensors are not significant in terms of the image quality after processing. The larger aperture will always be the major advantage of the S50.

What an amazing piece of technology that can automatedly produce images that would have been worthy of a glossy coffee-table book from less than 20 years ago. I do have many thoughts on this kind of product, but I really can't be arsed to go into them all right now. lol On balance, I think most of these will end up at the back of a cupboard gathering dust until they are thrown out with the rubbish. Simply because they will be regarded as "toys", unless they happen upon a user that really wants to exploit it... And that is really sad, given how incredible the capabilities are. Thanks for posting a nice honest review.

@Mantooth2851Ай бұрын
There are tons of 8 inch Dob reviews out there. Chances are yours has been reviewed before. That said, an 8in Dob is the perfect size of the bunch. A 6in, in my opinion, is on the small size. While the 10in can get a little bulky and cumbersome to move. The 8in is the best of both worlds since it hits the sweet spot.

@asingularhumanАй бұрын
I'd recommend this over the d3, mostly because the app is much better, it has a built in lp filter, mosaic mode, and a larger aperture. The only real pro the dwarf 3 has is widefield shots, but those taken by the d3 are not all that good, the s30 is so small now it is easy to travel with.

Isn't the s50 better now since it has mosaic mode?
@stormchaser_dan4293Ай бұрын
mosaic mode on the s30 looks better than the 50 tbf im getting the 30 for Christmas
@michaeldiaz4942Ай бұрын
You can double the area of the S50 with mosaic which roughly gets you to the native FOV of the S30, but at the cost of much longer time to get the same area. But the S30 has mosaic to so you can roughly double the area again, but again with a much longer time to get the data. Basically it's a question of do you want to want to capture a smaller area natively but with a little more detail with the S50, or save the $150 and capture a larger area natively, but with less detail. I really wouldn't say one is "better" than the other, but which one is better for what you want to capture?

(not cooled RARE) - peltier cooled - gets to 5c every session ive used it (4 times) within 4 minutess. - bigger hot side heatsink would = lower temps £280 *skywatcher adventurer GTI - goto is a must. got it for £250 from ebay *asiair plus got it for £150 *zwo dual band filter 1.25 £60 *colour 120mc + guide scope 110 *sky watcher Evo guide 50 with flatter for 170 total was about £1020 and i get as close to professional as it gets if zwo did a professional seestar this would be what i think it would be close to. as square sensors suffer less with rotation and the 533 sensor is pretty clean and easy to work with

me with bortle 9 🙂
@asingularhumanАй бұрын
in a bortle 9 area, if you are unable to travel outside to a lower bortle I recommend getting a telescope with a larger aperture, and using a lp filter such as the L-Extreme. I have seen great images from highly light polluted area's, you just need good hardware, and good processing skills which just come with time. The seestar is not a bad telescope for a light polluted area though considering it has am built in lp filter, and has live stacking so you can see what you're imaging.

If you look at the Orion nebula through a telescope with just some Light pollution, Say goodbye to any features. Hello Hazy grey Nebula! Oh and that doesn't even account for clouds. I personally like seeing things with my own eyes rather than capturing it on camera. But that is just me.

I find digital telescopes meaningless. To me, the beauty of traditional telescopes lies in observing astronomical objects live, with your own "real" eyes. If you're going to use such a device, then why even bother with an optical setup? A simple screen at the end of a tube connected to the internet could do the same thing. You just point the tube at a spot in the sky, and it downloads a good image of that region from the internet to show you. Am I wrong, though?
@JoseNavarroCoАй бұрын
I think you may be right about most. However, we still don't have plane tracking or features like timelapse that our current mounts don't have yet.

You're not wrong and I understand what you're saying. I do enjoy visual astronomy and that's how I started back in the 80s. We could say the same with numerous other hobbies (Ex. Photography, woodworking, BBQ, music,....). There are many ways to enjoy our hobbies, the more people involved helps new product development and lower prices. Someone may start out with an S30 then buy a 16 inch dob someday. Do what you enjoy.
