⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ This is not only my favorite BABYMETAL music video, it's probably my favorite music video from any artist, of all time. To quote the BABYMETAL members in the audio commentary they did for this song: [MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really. [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs). Su has mentioned that this is her favorite song, even though it's a difficult one for her to sing. She hopes to sing it perfectly some day. : ) There are fancams out there that captured her singing it a capella, as a warm up. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. Megitsune has been performed live more than any other of their songs, and frequently tops fan polls for favorite song. This one makes BABYMETAL fans go wild when it's played live. If you want the song with the highest number of sudden left turns, try the official music video for 'Iine!'. (That's two letter "i"s at the beginning of the word. It's not 'Line".)

The ones I've seen that get the biggest "WTF" from reactors are "Yava!", "BxMxC", "Iine" (ee-nay), and "Doki Doki Morning". Keep in mind though, no matter what era of BABYMETAL you pick a song from, they're all very different and sometimes they mix multiple genres in one song. Boy, are you in for an adventure. 😏🤘🦊

_Sore!_ 🦊🤘 Thanks for coming back with one BM fans favorite song. It seems we're having a Megitsune's week, a lot of reactors watching this one lol You should really watch a live versión now to see all the energy of these girls on stage, live at Budokan 2014 is a safe to react version, only thing is the crowd couldn't mosh there. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 and 15 yo, so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen" a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. Song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. Japanese friends told that "megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal (the lead singer) is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why you will hear her doing sound check with this song before live concerts. One of my favorite version is live at "Red Fox Festival 2017" with a room full of beautiful megitsune only, you can find that at Babymetal Reactor Resource The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. "NotACult" 👀 If you're looking for underrated BM songs right away, that could be "YAVA!" live at Big Fox Festival 2017 or "From Dusk Till Dawn" live at Budokan 2021, but those are the ones I really like, the one you see barely recommended are "Elevator Girl" from latest Metal Galaxy album and DA DA DANCE as well. See you next time. 🦊🤘🔥

Great reaction. 'Megitsune' is a difficult song to sing - so Su-metal uses it for sound checks and to check how she is sounding before concerts. It often tops fan polls for favourite song and they have played it live more often than any other song. It is arguably the song that showcases best what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains why the fox masks are featured in the video) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The breakdown in the middle of the song (yes that has pig squeal screams, no it is not Su, Yui or Moa doing them) uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade out of her mic she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Something less recommended - you already have 'iine' in the comments. A couple more that tend to get overlooked would be 'Uki Uki Midnight' and 'Awadama Fever'.

Wouldn't it be amazing/shocking if we found out the the pig squeal and other screams were actually MoiMoi with their vocals modified. 🤣 The One would be in a state of shock! 🤯 LOL!!!

Megitsune is definitely my favorite. I also really love the video, especially how adorably Su is in the black and white scene where she's smiling. I also love when Yui or Moa (not sure which) trips and falls and they left it in the video.

I'm loving your reactions. The Foxhole is varied and deep! Off the wall recommendations are "Tales of the Destinies" and "From Dusk Til Dawn". Megitsune, or vixen, is one of BM's female empowerment songs. Its theme is female fortitude and that women should never be underestimated and I think the song is saying that about BM themselves as well as about every woman. The band here are dancers just miming, but the live concert performances with BM's backing band, The Kami Band, are even better. The opening sets a very traditional tone by using the classic Japanese instruments, but then Japanese tradition is challenged as the band kicks in, Yui and Moa pull on Su's obi to free her and BM go into an energetic high leg lift dance. That dance contrasts with the interpretation of the traditional restrained dance (nihon buyo) in the break down. The breakdown is the traditional song "Sakura, Sakura" (Cherry Blossom, Cherry Blossom), but BM even subvert that and Su sings "kitsune, kitsune" (fox, fox). This also might be an expression of BM moving away from their parent idol group which was Sakura Gakuin or Cherry Blossom Academy. In Japan the fox is seen as a clever shape shifter and the lyrics liken women to female foxes in the way they have to change themselves to please others or to hide their true feelings. In the dance BM mime wearing a mask and also putting on make up as another way to hide themselves. But the strength of women is emphasized and the expression of this peaks when Su shouts: "Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" and pulls a knife from her microphone. The phrase is translated as "Maidens shouldn’t be underestimated" (credit Du-metal), although that is a polite interpretation. It's also used in a famous Japanese gangster film called Onimasa and is translated there as " don't you sh*t with me". Some of BM's lyrics can be quite shocking to Japanese audiences and native speakers say that gets lost on non-Japanese speakers who have to experience Babymetal's lyrics through the distorting prism of translation.

As many have pointed, enjoying BABYMETAL is a journey. Follow the recommendations and they will guide you to the best experience. BM covers so many genres. They have over 50 songs. There are hundreds (thousands) of BM video (not counting reactors); multiple versions, festivals, live performances at different venues and/or dates, fancams, and proshots. We'll recommend the better videos and help avoid copyright hits (Amuse can be brutal). for a song that's different, though it does get a lot of attention I'd suggest Iine (thats two i's not Line) it throws a ton of different types of music all at you at once. For one that doesn't get a lot of attention (IMO) I'd say Adamawa Fever, I believe people have said it's buy the some person who wrote gimme chocolate, and part of the lyrics talk about a mint flavored time machine. another song I'd like to recommenced, that's one of there better songs (I believe) is Road of Resistance (Live in Japan) pure power metal. though at the end of the day, I really don't think you can go wrong with any BabyMetal song

Thanks for this reaction. 1:28 actually based on your hand motion, it was mind blown, instead of impressed. The girls do not scream, harsh vocals are pre-recorded. I don't think they had really underrated/bad songs, but many of us as bias. 🙂 But their are least reacted songs, for example: ↓←→BBAB from the Japanese version of the third album. My guess is least reacted on the second album is: Meta Taro. ↓←→BBAB has no MV or live performance, it's just album audio. From the first album.... Uki Uki ★ Midnight hasn't been reacted to much. But I would recommend it's twin: Doki Doki ☆Morning first.

Megitsune is Quintessential Babymetal!! But you really do not know what you are asking for..... If we throw the "Deep Cuts" at you, you would hear them, but not really understand. For example, Babymetal has a song called "Babymetal Death". Are you ready for the explanation? So in the Nihongo language, they use a word, "Desu" (said like Dess with a silent U) that follows a proper name, like Babymetal Desu. The word is basically the introduction of the noun, like 'I am' or 'We are'...so Babymetal Desu is just "We are Babymetal". There is also NO 'th' sound in the language. So now say it and stick out your tongue a little at the end and you get a word that sounds like our Western word for "Death". So its just a Play on Words. Another Play is the fact that the Words 'Baby' and 'Heavy' are written almost exactly the same except for a mark over one character and thus "Babymetal" and "Heavymetal" are almost the same. So what does that have to do with the song "Babymetal Death"? Well, it has been used by the group since the very early days of their Live Performances as a way of Introducing themselves to the audience. By chanting "Desu" or "Death" over and over at the beginning, it is not only Babymetal introducing themselves but it allows the crowd to become part of Babymetal, and thus a reason the fandom is referred to as "The One" as we are all One in Babymetal. And its just another way of melding the "Kawaii"(cute) with the "Metal"!! It is also very similar to the chant by X-Japan fans but that one is "We Are - X"! However, in the Legend 1999 show the song was used as the Finale. Also, once you listen to the song, more specifically the video from the Legend 1997 show, you will hear and see references to other Heavy Metal groups..such as Metallica, and X-Japan and you will definitely get an Alice Cooper vibe! If you are not familiar with any of those groups, you will miss some of the meaning of that performance (like, what was that first riff and what is the neckbrace for, and what does that statue represent?) and without a solid background in many of the other Babymetal Lore, you will DEFINITELY not understand the ending!! That entire Concert built up to that Finale and if you watch it out of order or only pieces here and there, it takes away from the enjoyment you could have otherwise gotten from the performance...its one of those Rare things. So this was just one example why "The One" suggest specific video to guide you down the Fox Hole so you to can become a member of "The One"!! It takes time to Really understand what its all about!! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

Chad Smith (RHCP) version - Chad-metal on drums, BABYMETAL performing the rest - kzbin.info/www/bejne/opTHnmaYp5aVmpI Rob Halford version - you read that right, Rob Halford himself performed this with them - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXjCl6Shrq9grdE Both videos are live but the Chad version is kinda crappy quality recorded on a phone. I keep thinking I'm not so mad on their videos/album tracks compared to live performances - but certainly this and several others are great - in a way I almost like this more than their live performances of it as Su "sings" (I know....) the parts that are obviously backing tracks when she hides behind the mask (beyond me why it's not sung - but that's just a minor beef I have where I think a lot more could be done live...). Good reaction and keep it up - they have LOADS of great stuff and it goes even deeper if you ever look at their origins 😀. Maybe Akatski Unfinished if you want something unusal that I love I'd never chuck at a new "victim" :P

(pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012 (that's right - ELEVEN years ago!). And if you're looking for "strange and unusual" BABYMETAL, any of the Black BABYMETAL songs will do ("Song 4 No Uta", "GJ", "Sis Anger", and "Onedari Daisakusen"). The aforementioned "Iine!" will definitely peg your "WTF?!" meter, as will "BABYMETAL Death" (the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" version). I just wanted to warn you that this official MV gets often blocked... I hope it doesn't, but if it does, a watermark on top usually solves the issue! From their official MV, the ones for Megitsune, Gimme Chocolate, Karate, ROad of resistance live in Japan, No Rain No Rainbow live at Legend S and The One - Stairway to living legend are NOT safe. These ones will often get blocked! Any other MV is usually safe. THeir Festival shows are usually fine, same as any live performance from 2014 or earlier. Anything from 2015 or later need some work (like opacity and watermark) or needs to be a compilation (like the Karate video you watched) otherwise it will get blocked. SOmething that not many people reacts to? mmm I would say "Uki Uki Midnight" live at Budokan :D Get ready for a completely different sound! "Babymetal Death" Live at Legend 1997 is also something I wouldn't recommend too early, but it's still quite a mainstream recommendation!
