Is This the Best Budget Macro Lens You Can Get?

I'm out doing some macro photography with the Tokina 100mm ATX-Pro f2.8 macro lens and asking, is this the best budget macro lens you can get?

Great video Robert and a good demonstration of its sharpness at different apertures at the end. Despite it's minor issues, this seems like a great option for a budget lens as evidenced by some of your images displayed here! Great stuff mate. Have a great week over there!

Cheers Paul. I struggled getting decent images for this one to be honest. Not because of the lens, I think mainly just because everything is dead in winter, and I didn't have a lot of time. I think you can see from the shots that it's a pretty sharp lens though, and I think that's its main strength. Hope you have a good one too mate. Thanks for watching. 😊

I rarely remember to look for macro opportunities Robert! I was out with the camera this morning and plenty ground interest with the frost and early sunlight where this lens would have been great - spot on review as always and amazing that some of those images are stacked in such high numbers !

I wish I'd had some frost Andrew, it would have made things a bit more interesting. I've stacked much larger numbers before - over a hundred sometimes! I try to keep the file sizes down these days though! 😁 Thanks for watching mate. Hope you're well. 😊

Interesting video Robert, as I'm just getting into macro photography. My Sigma 105 macro plus FTZ adaptor arrived from MPB last week, only done a few garden test shots, but really impressed with it 😊

I'm very satisfied with mine which I've had for 6 or 7 years and it works great for more than just macro. Originally purchased for use with my D500, I now adapt it to my Z6ii in full manual. It requires a camera with a built in motor drive such as the D500 and most full frames for autofocus. I think you touched on this but having the motor drive is the key for autofocus and something that won't be found on the 3000 and 5000 series models.

I am sorry i did not understand you how does this lens work with nikon z mirrorrless bodies with the adapter...can we use autofocus and manual focus or there are limitations could you please clarify.

It's manual focus only when using the FTZ adapter on a Z body. Otherwise, everything works the same. Thanks for watching. 😊

Thanks for clarification I own this lens and using it with a D7500 DSLR more than happy with it for snakes and frogs and using in difficult extreme humidity and rain jungle areas...but yes now I wish I would have spend a bit more and got a second hand nikon 105 macro because that was just 100 dollars more a lot of people wanted to get rid of thier nikon gear earlier now how the turn tables have turned 😂

@@Robert-Bishop it is more about a tech that is being phased out. i doubt this lens will be reviewed again. i owned it in the nikon mount. it would be intriguing if tokina made a z mount version.
