Is this the best driving road in Britain?

If there's one thing a #caterham loves, it's wiggly roads. Could this wonderful stretch of road be the most enjoyable in Britain?

Since you decided to disable comments on the previous video, I'm writing here. I think I understand, but also I need an animation cause the arrows and lines made in microsoft paint were a tad confusing. Also doesn't the speed depend on how well you car can turn and road surface? Ps Please don't turn off comments just because of some hate, having comments really ads to a video and I'm sure I would've understood it better with help from others.

That is a great road in either direction, I know it well. Careful cutting the blind right hand bends. That's my back yard and I ride a motorcycle. Cutting those right handers is how you kill us, Because we are told to position closer to the centre in what to us is a left hander in order to increase our vision through the bend. To then find you at speed bisecting your vehicle with the centreline gives everyone less opportunity to take evasive action.

Only cross long-white-lines-with-short-spaces when you can see it’s clear to do so. A GoPro in a Caterham doesn’t lend itself well to accurately portraying the vision driver has. Incidentally, I’m an ex-biker, and the Caterham is something between a car and a bike, hence my love for it. At the same time, a Caterham suffers from the same “SMIDSY” problem bikes do.

I used to cut corners like you in my elise. Then I realised that I wan't to make more out of the corner as that's what the car is for, so now I just carve a line in my lane. Still had a few scary moment's with bike's taking right handers toward me with their head over on my side. I have my own in car video of my favourite road, but I don't want to blow up my own spot. Before you know it there are average cameras and speedbumps.

Clear vision through a corner is vital before choosing to cut - a GoPro in the Cat doesn't give the same clarity of vision as one has as the driver. As I've commented elsewhere here, I used to be a biker, and I used the same technique the other commenter mentions to 'open out' vision on the bend - i.e. move road position. Which for a left hander would be nearer the centreline. I do like your 'reframing' in your head of taking the full corner to enjoy it more though, nice tip, thank you! Lastly, one of the things I love about the Caterham, and a major factor for swapping to it from a modern 911, was it is thoroughly enjoyable to drive at sensible (legal) road speeds. The 911 needed a track to come alive, it was too much for the roads.

@@WhiteRoseDrives thanks for the reply. I did see you mention about the visibility and you are correct. Certainly no criticism from my side. I chose the Elise for the same reason. You can give it everything and not risk your licence. I have an early S1 and it has the perfect amount of performance for a british B-road. Absolutely superb. I would very much like to have a Caterham to park next to it at some point. Totally different driving experience and even less weight!

Nice to see someone doing this. Like you, I used to cut corners too but then I realised if I stayed in my lane (even with no traffic) - not only is it safer but also more fun and challenging. For example an easy 60mph flat out corner when cutting the line becomes a more rewarding brake and downshift 45mph corner, giving that extra dimension and fun to an otherwise boring corner. I don't see anyone else doing this. It's a win-win for me.

Often I'll stick to the car ahead who's cutting lanes to go fast, without me cutting at all. It's a real nice feeling and super rewarding driving wise 🙂

I personally think it's a great example of how to enjoy driving. You're using all the road in the right places and being very respectful of other road users.

😂 Waze will go red at 1mph over the limit… which is within acceptable tolerances 😊 One does try to drive respectfully *all the time* to be fair, so thank you for noting and commenting. I'm an ex-biker and I ride bicycles. Respecting all road users matters to me-we can all get along, can't we? 🤣

Nice road, but too many intersections where a pedestrian or an animal could go out. The eternal question, unless for me is what speed is apropiate to develope with a good balance between safety and joy. Kind regards

I think there are a few 'old military road's in Scotland, aren't there? 🤔 But if you mean the one up through the middle of the Cairngorms, as I think you do, then yes, it is 😄 Well spotted!
