I think Fabfilter employ actual wizards as coders. A lot of the FF plugins have more features than their rivals' but somehow they have a lower CPU footprint. Presumably the code for some other plugins is bloated. (I think the stock plugs in FLS are pretty low in CPU use, but other third-party plugs use twice as much CPU but produce results only about half as good!)

Good to see you Will! Wow how helpful, I was applying all the moves while watching your video on a track I am finishing up. I wanted to ask: Would it be correct that by utilizing the Compression/Expansion feature of the Dynamic EQ, it is an element in which gives your song life? ProQ3 just cemented itself as one of my favorites and most fun to use plugins. With purpose and simplicity, I added two Pro Q3’s on my Master. The first with two points on the song's fundamental note, G2 and G9, and expanded just a bit, less than +2. The second, with Linear Phase on Maximuuuum and some High end shelving at G7, +1.7 and adjusted Q to taste. Sounds great and it’s aaaalive-when A/Bing. Auto Gain is like a guardian angel. The advanced features were not a distraction as I had applied techniques from EDM Tips Academy ha! The song to me, seemed to come more to life, like a piece of my production which was missing. I knew I needed get a run through on the ProQ3 to better understand it and how to professionally use it and you nailed it Will! Thanks!

I'll open by saying, I own both Ozone 10 Advanced and FabFilter Q3.; and honestly if I had to recommend one over the other, hands down I would recommend Ozone 10 Advanced. Literally ALL of the features Will showed off in Q3 are included in Ozone 10 Advanced. Unlike Q3, Ozone 10 Advanced will not only show you potential issues with your mix, but it can also correct your mix if you choose to let it, with a step history you can jump back through in case you don't like its results. It will match a reference track's EQ curve and gain, automate dynamically the un-masking of clashing channels, handle side chain EQ'ing, and that's just the dynamic EQ from Ozone 10 Advanced. I'm not knocking Q3 but for just a little bit more in price with Ozone 10 Advanced; you just get way more tools to work with.

@brokko_le3 Жыл бұрын
For ages I was convinced all EQ's were basically the same except for little extras like the spectrum analyzer f.e., so I always used the stock eq. Now that I realize how wrong I was and how harsh those sound compared to high quality ones, I really want something better, but pro-q3's price is just really to steep for me. Are there any alternatives that could function as better sounding workhorse EQ, but a little less pricey?
@LuLeBe Жыл бұрын
Are you sure you can hear a difference in how "harsh" they sound? I don't think any DAW ships with a crap default EQ. Of course there are other EQs but the Ozone or Kirchhoff EQ aren't really cheaper. Yes, you don't get that Linear phase stuff or the super steep filters (which you rarely need) but for general EQing, I don't think you can find a difference in a blind test. Maybe the default values for Q factor etc are different, that's why one sounds "harsh" to you?
@brokko_le3 Жыл бұрын
@@LuLeBe No, you're probably right. I remember having seen another video comparing fabfilter with a stock EQ (I think reaper's). The problem was that it didn't handle nyquist very well and cramp at highest frequencies. I tested the stock EQ of Renoise against some praised eq emulation (I believe lufikus, not sure) and I noticed I couldn't get the same result with the stock one no matter what I did. I forgot however that the emulation also introduces saturation and therefor a different, fuller sound. Anyway, I'm sure not all stock EQ's are the same anyway. Ableton's f.e. probably won't even have that nyquist or phasing issue at higher frequencies.

The question I can't get answered is how or why can we not assigned different sidechains to different dynamic EQ points? We can select multiple sidechains from our inputs so imo instead of the sidechain button in ProQ being a toggle it should ask you which sidechain do you want it to listen to. I'm pretty sure the stock EQ in Cbase13 can do this.

The Kichoff is supposedly better, I personally can't judge that because I've never used the Pro Q3, but I know many who have switched to the Kirchhoff and everyone says that this is the best EQ. I personally use the Softube Weiss EQ MP or the Logic Standart EQ for individual tracks and the Weiss EQ1 for the buses whenever frequency processing is involved. Otherwise, I love my Elysia XFilter (API 500 format) for that certain something. For mono signals such as kick or bass, the Klark Tekknik (Pultec hardware clone) is always a dream equalizer.
