Here comes my solicited comment... Rob was pushing me to start some flame wars but... Nice content. Even though I'm not a KZbinr, I did enjoy listening to KZbinrs talk about their world. My opinion, if anyone cares, on the best style for self defense: I'd have to agree with wrestling but ultimately being in shape trumps style any day. Again, good video guys.

@@CombatSelfDefense Like I said what's your intention with what someone would study . Like I train my hands to smash patio blocks. I'm sure you know who Brian Gray is . And I've been in and out of some schools .T.K.D. T.S.D. J.K.D. I was out of shape for Mauy Tai I liked it and that art will put you in shape but I drive a truck and for whatever reason I kept kicking the heavy bag and hitting the joint right under shin bone and right above the foot . I drive for a living big truck's and the discomfort wasn't worth it . Then I took BJJ another art that will get you in shape but it was a trophy school . I like Kali it's much more then stick and knife fighting. But in reality how long is a fight outside of the ring under 3 min all the fights I've seen . Like what you said you where in better shape but the man you sparred with still broke your ribs . Now really what would two trained fighter's out side of a ring be fighting about . But the man you spar with was a full out fight would you win ? Or what you where able to pull off . I'm 55 yrs old in ok shape no not at your level . I started Kuntao/ Silat till covid hit and force to close for a bit . But I've found another school that does American Filipino Kuntao and it's mixed with Savate, Judo, BJJ, American Boxing, stick and knife fighting and Akido and of course Kuntao there is a belt system some how . But a strong base in Philippines art . I told that Savate is kind of weird for me I have no intrest kicking above the waist . I'm 6ft at 296 . I don't need someone faster then me grabbing my leg them 297 hitting the ground . So Sir how would you rate all these art's combined ? I did well in the Boxing. But those Savate kicks is not for me . I made a 2 to 3 yrs commitment to myself and can give names of all my schools for verification . I was at MMA school the instructor said it wasn't which is usally Mauy Thai and BJJ Mix . But I wanted killing art's . But when I was taking Kuntao Silat with Dumog I just loved it everything But the way the economy is going I don't want to sign a 1yr contract at this time . Can I get what you think of the American Filipino Kuntao with light traing of Judo Jits Jitsu Savate and American Boxing all combined . And yes your still adorable lol lol lol . You guys are a great group. Keep it up. RE: Batman -- I agree 100% that Batfleck is the best fighter, but honorable mention to Battinson. If they had made the planned Affleck Batman movie that was to be (essentially) Batman vs Deathstroke, you might have had one of the best superhero movies ever for fight choreography. I'll be the first subscriber for the fight scene review channel. RE: Gunfighting -- Gunfighting is a martial art in its own right. People who confuse marksmanship drills with gunfighting are the same people who confuse bag work with fighting. RE: Best baseline self defense martial art -- I would go with some form of "dirty boxing." I define that as a striking art that focuses on no-rules engagements and includes a hefty dose of clinch and takedown defense. There are a lot of different flavors of dirty boxing -- could be Asian or Western, could be a formal or informal system, whatever -- and at that point its a matter of what training/instruction you have access to and how intensely you do it. From that dirty boxing, you can branch outwards into longer range pure striking or into ground work. Its like starting from the consensus middle of self defense and then having the option to spread outwards.

Bruce Lee used to say, that no martial art is superior to any other and that self-limitation is the only limitation - so I'd say that this question is again one of those with no clear answer. Besides, for thousands of years people all over the world have combined martial art techniques to create more effective styles - hybrid arts are not a new invention, even someone might think otherwise. Pankration was introduced as an Olympic sports in 648 BCE - maybe only boxing and wrestling are older than that. During the 13th Century in China, Shaolin monk Bai Yufeng combined hou quan's footwork, Fujian white crane's hand techniques, striking methods of chang quan, power-generation techniques of luohan quan and the breathing methods of iron qi gong into a system known as Five Ancestors Fist. And as far as I know, you Mr. Rowland have studied kajukenbo, so you know how things go there: you're not supposed to just mimic your teacher but rather to develop your _own_ style - and only techniques, that work, stay in the system - those that don't, are discarded

The actual sport of Wrestling can build some killers, but it's not the best martial art for self defense IMO. But it's definitely ONE OF THEM. I'd say it's Boxing. Because MOST PEOPLE QUIT! If you train for 6 months and then quit, Boxing will stick with most people far better than anything else. Just my take.

He was Wing Chun based . Judo with the Jitsu and boxing 👍Nice mix . Since Judo and Japanese Jujitsu was one art at one time . BJJ not sure what the differences are but I'm sure they ate close in nature . If I'm wrong I'm wrong . BJJ alone as for your 1st line defense no I don't see it , you are forced to go through 4 ranges . Some train in certain area's of combat . I'm sure you already know this by the arts that intrest you .
