Its not the style but the craftiness of the user. No matter what style or discipline you learn you could get beat by a non trained person

Its the style that allows you to keep your enemies at bay. Most traditional arts have you punch in specific ways not to teach you how to fight but to train and develop your muscles in the right way. The way to fight came after you got your blackbelt.

Not to be disrespectful but clearly you really have never trained in anything related to the Filipino martial arts.. every single thing that you train with a weapon can be applied to empty hand.. I would love to debate you on this because I practice the Filipino martial arts for 30 years.. I have for lack of a better word sparred against nearly every Martial system out there.. FMA ( Filipino martial arts ) is not a martial art per say.. it is a system of fighting, a combat system.. it is designed to eliminate your foes quickly as possible and move on to the next because you're usually fighting multiple people

I agree that those three are the best obviously, but again in MMA you have to wear gloves ya know And outside of obvious things like no biting no I gouging no groin punching A lot of other things are just not allowed Like I think someone with aikido would get fucked up by a boxer obviously but let's say buy some miracle. Some dude was able to divert somebody's weight which is already going to be harder because you're wearing gloves. So you can't use your hands the way that you have been taught but let's say you pull that miracle up now that person's back is to you and you're quick enough to act on it You can't punch them in the back of the head You can't hit their spine in any particular way. You're not allowed to hit their throat. You're not allowed to do any of these things that might be in other martial arts or use a lot more grip strength. Should a akido or tai chi ever be your base, of course not. But if someone that is seasoned decided to reach out in grabbing one or two things from one of these other martial arts, how is that person supposed to implement them in the cage You just can't. So I feel like bringing up how effective they are in MMA isn't like the most Fair argument in the world An oblique kick is borderline considered dirty, but let's just say that was outlawed. I'm sure people would say that it would never be as effective as a regular leg kick and people would question its effectiveness in the same way of how people just look at a groin strike like we don't consider those because you just don't do those they're dirty but look at how effective it is look at how much damage it imposes on you. You also can't stomp on somebody's head like again for obvious reasons. But you can't soccer kick you can't knee to a downed opponent, these might all be things that you could do in a different martial art, but they wouldn't be able to use any of those strategies because they're just not allowed in MMA and even if they were A lot of them could be restricted by wearing gloves where you're only meant to really punch and it makes your Jiu-Jitsu and judo harder I don't know. Just food for thought. I think a lot of these would make a lot more of a difference at like heavyweight with grip strength but hey, maybe it would just kind of fall into the category of hip tosses and elbows because they're not as commonly seen in modern MMA or at least UFC as much as they used too I would assume because of the emphasis on not getting taken down

Sensei Take Steven Seagal took back AIKIDO which can be used softly or in a brutal way! Just Like SENSEI LENNY SLY IS trying to do! It's really a Mental martial art and ROKAS who is a black belt in Aikido isn't proficient at it, he doesn't get it not to insult him, but what he does get is how to move efficiently in crowds of people or what you call he does well in is his "TAI-SA-BA-KI" which is his FOOT WORK!! he never gets his body hit into from anyone, it's "INSTINCTUAL" which is what happens as an "AIKIDOKA" for so MANY years..in other words it's SECOND NATURE AFTER, NO JOKE. like your brain is programmed.
@wesleydietrich5022

Sensei Take Steven Seagal Revolutionized Aikido, to make it street Applicable which is under "TENSHIN" which is the name of the dojo in Okinawa Japan Sensei Steven never calls it Tenshin, only Lenny Sly does Sensei "Take" only goes by it as "AIKIDO" he shortened the circular movements and instead of throwing your UKE outwards where they keep getting up and coming back he Seagal would smash them any Aikidoka directly to the ground instead and this goes with any Aikikai technique as in the "TRADITIONAL" style, which I've been doing for many many years and still. And as this instructor above in video pointed out with the blade of his left hand goes under "KENJITSU" which is using your hands as as "IAIDO" which is Samurai Sword fighting but with your hands as the swords instead. Above video shows the instructor doing "YOKOMENUCHI" with his left hand in all actuality in real life no one fights like this on the street but as he the instructor above in the video 11:04 points out which Sensei Lenny Sly doesn't is where the Bad guy is using a knife, a small to large glass bottle or a stick whatever it may be is what YOKOMENUCHI is showing what to do as Sensei Seagal does in many of his movies as well as ALL AIKIDO TECHNIQUES in "Marked for death" in "Out for justice" Sensei just says "Who is teaching my Aikido??!" Which was to a friend of his someone who overheard him say.. Sensei is a MASTER of Angles which you could see IN "THE PATH BEYOND THOUGHT" Sensei LENNY SLY has two podcast channels ob YOU TUBE which is a two part series only a handful of Sensei Takes disciples or senior students of his can teach this "TENSHIN" style, but it really isn't a style it's a the name of a dojo in Okinawa Japan but SENSEI TAKE was the first young Westerner to thrive back Aikido over there since the dojo was doing poorly and was about to close Seagal was given permission which Sensei Lenny Sly explains in these podcasts and was a student of "Larry Renosa" who Sensei Take Steven Seagal taught all Tenshin Aiki-jujitsu "Aikido" techniques AGAIN since Larry was only taught "Aikikai" and wanted him to carry on in training other students, of Seagal's Aikido. Larry Renosa can only be seen in Seagal's movie "FIRE DOWN BELOW" Larry is one of the 4 Bodyguards seen at the end protecting the actor "Chris Christopherson" who is playing poker inside a glass bubble. Seagal has a warrant in hand to arrest him with two other federal agents right behind him. Larry comes, the grey haired man trying to slowly hand grab Seagal and Seagal does Ju-bi-do-ri = you be dori on Larry's thumb. Anyways. I practice all these tools as extras, from Lenny sly's hand deflections all simple but still difficult techniques which isn't taught in the traditional style of "Aikikai" AT ALL which are really EFFECTIVE and is used to TRANSITION "KENJITSU" hand sword deflections into other BRUTAL techniques when used properly with proper TIMING AND DISTANCE. Otherwise forget it as SENSEI Lenny Sly points out!!! Sensei Take is the only Master who can do Randori where he sets up traps and pins Uke's or opponents into one another as he shows on "ABOVE THE LAW" "Marked for death" and "under seige" as Sensei Lenny points out in vidéos that Sensei Seagal quickly snaps his UKE'S wrist which is a KOTEGAESHI technique right down to the ground, but with only a half turn. Aikido is many variations it really depends on HOW QUICKLY YOU GET how Aikido works or learns how to use it effectively it's really a MENTAL martial art. It can be used softly or in a deadly way it's a Jing Jang martial it's got a good side and a bad side to it! which Sensei Lenny puts up in one of his videos from an old SENSEI which is a more then 3 to 4 pages of reading.

Yeah, but the odds of you being mugged or jumped by a mixed martial artist are about the same as winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning at the same time. When it comes to self defense fighting it comes down to circumstance, environment, and the situation that you are faced with.

I am glad you were able to benefit from the more practical benefits of martial arts training. I have trained in JKA-style Shotokan karate for 52 years since I was 17 years old. In the first dojo I trained in, we had two-hour classes in three parts: kihon, kumite and kata. Kata was always last. Our sensei wanted to see our resilience and perseverance in performing katas correctly after the grueling basics and sparring since he thought kata was the heart of karate. He thought mental and physical toughness were essential and correct kata practice will help in developing them. I was there for 3 years and learned the 5 Heian katas. I was a green belt. At that time, katas were assigned to rank. I do not see that nowadays. You are right, most martial artists never would use their learned skills in combat situations for the reasons you mentioned. Rather, we are all subject to our human frailties. I practice karate/kata almost everyday for this reason. Now I have the choice of 26 Shotokan katas. Good luck to you and thank you for this video. This to me is a validation of the 'folk dances' I hold dear.

I rarely see somene explaining the Aikido background like this. Great job. I would only add that prewar Aikido was not very different from AikiJutsu. Those people trained 6 hours per day, every day. You would literally practice falls until your knees were covered in blood. In essence, combining Jiu Jitsu (or Judo) with Aikido was brutal. It all went south when the aikido came to US. Also, people forget that Ueshiba's students were at least 5th Dan ranked Jiu Jitsu figthers before they started doing Aikido. That is why Judo students were regulary humiliated by the Ueshiba's students.

You forget that Mindset of a Sports is diffeent in Combat. You are right to mix or adopt the opponent Swift moves in order to know the Weakness in it. But in a Real combat thats when the real deal works with each martial arts way of defending and Hitting or killing moves. All the categories you spoke are for fighting wrestling ideals. But in such cases of Knifes medievals stuffs weapons. All those you mention is not effective. You re focus belief was To a Sports. It should be Sports and Blood Combat. We see people fighting the whole day, watching them like crabs circling Around. The real deal is to end it and win. Sport and Blood combat. Then you can come up to best Martial Arts.

With respect gouging and biting should not be left out of this discussion. What happens, to your query, when a relatively untrained person drives a thumb into your eye socket and rips out your optic nerve, what happens to the sport trained person. The part that you’ve also ignoring is the fundamental mindset of terminating a threat by reducing their combat viability. It isn’t about winning it’s about destroying functionality. So if I bite your throat and rip out an artery or crush a windpipe your ability to transition out of the sport mindset. Combatives are not for sport it is designed to end you and body striking to blow out joints or open gouges and cervical breaks are not found in the three styles you list unless we are using different definitions of what you consider kickboxing, throwing or grappling. Would welcome off line comms if you’d like to discuss and speak more in depth. For your consideration. Be well.

You are so right. There are no rules in a fight. Anything that causes extreme pain, organ damage or neurological dislocation if present in the martial art makes it effective. I had trained in JKA-style karate for 52 of my 69 years. 'Do not think of winning. Think, rather of not losing' by Gichin Funakoshi is one of his 20 precepts that I adhere to. Another of his missives that I am paraphrasing here: Avoid fighting at all costs, but if you have to give it all you got and defeat your enemy. I practice groin kicks/punches/strikes, throat, eye, temple strikes and other techniques not found in the 'sports section'. I believe that I will never be in a fight for my life but they are part of the art as I see it in the katas I practice especially if I look at the original Okinawan versions. Another aspect of this is one's willingness to inflict harm on another. Funakoshi: Even an untrained person can cause you real harm.
