Exactly my winter set up, Hardtail rear hugger and front hugger, also added the litter extension to front, made big difference to my 29x2.6

@@streetpigeonmtb Negative are hard peddling on fire roads but I’m not out all day on it in winter , other than that they are great, run lower pressure specially on h/t for more cushion and grip is unreal,they keep good momentum also for chunky, like I say long distance it’s hard going I use my other bikes for that, short muddy winter ride h/t all the way

Cheers Bryan. That makes sense. It's easy to switch up a setup on a bike to make it fit for the rides you are doing. I'd defo like to experiment with 2.6, especially on the rear at some point. Cheers for the info 👍

@@streetpigeonmtb I run 2.6 front and rear wtb vigilantes front trail boss rear might try vigilantes on rear but will be a mega hard pedal though good winter work out💪 in short distance/time

It's defo time to put mine back on! I just kepy leaving it and leaving it. They are ruddy good! Defo keeps you much much drier and cleaner!👍

Based on this I bought one! Rode at Glentress yesterday and had not a spot of mud on my butt! First time ever. Last week at Carron valley trails I was soaked right through my underwear.:)

Rode today just before Storm Dudley puddles and muddy conditions and mudhugger great again. No exaggeration when I say you saved my butt!

Been using them since they came out. Use them on my hardtail and full sus. Also have the gravel bike version on my gravel bikes. They are all excellent and make winter riding much more enjoyable and also makes your kit last longer as you are not grinding dirt into your clothes all winter etc. 👍

Good test! A rear isn’t for me on my enduro bike but you can see that difference loud and clear! The mud is never ending these days!

Mudguards are an amazing and undervalued product. I just installed mine yesterday, and suddenly I cant wait until it rains to try them out ;D

Nice review 👍. As much as I love riding in slop and getting muddy it does start to wear a bit thin by end of winter so I imagine we'll see rear mud guards becoming more popular. Plus the more of them you see the less strange they'll look.

Definitely Marcus. I rode with it again at the weekend there and honestly it was so good to not be caked in mud. I think I'll probably run this on the winter bike until March/April 👍

Yeah, I think that's how a lot of folks feel. I thought it was going to do well also. I didn't think I was going to enjoy having a dry butt so much! I would imagine it'll be something I keep on the winter bike until the slop chills out a bit in March/April. Hope you are all good bud 👍

Great edit Jamie :) Massive thanks for enduring the freezing temperatures in the name of science ;) We'd be the first to admit the rear Huggers wouldn't win any beauty contests, but being able to sit down INSIDE the pub without being shouted at by the landlord after a freezing wet Thursday nightride is prize indeed. Did we mention the wear it will save on your dropper post too?

Thank you! Yeah, that was a cold day for sure. I think I also needed a Windhugger for those beautifully baltic winds 😆 It was good fun testing the product and having a dry butt was a strange feeling I'm not used to on a winter ride - it turns out not being caked in mud and wet is actually quite fun! 😁

@@ThemudhuggerCoUk Cant recommend the rear enough, absolutely brilliant, saved me a fortune on shorts over the last few years and home dry and warm especially in Scottish winters days, great products

Your bike is 29er, right? Did you shorten Mudhugger or is it original lenght? How much it comes over rear wheel?

Nice review, seems to do the job. I’m currently running the RRP proguard max on my P7, never really looked at a rear one but I am out regular and constantly clearing clumps of mud from my pack and clothing 😬

Thanks mate. In all honesty, I hadn't considered one either, until I did the review and decided to just keep it on. With the state of the trails I reckon I'll probably run it on the HT until March/April. Sometimes functionality and practicality just win I guess. I think my washing machine will be pleased as well 😆

Great review Mr Pigeon - subbed. I know it makes sense, but I just can't do it. It looks like something you should be using to launch tennis balls for your dog. I use the rrp rear guard, and its absolutely useless for anything other than protecting 2 pivot bearings, but it looks cool whilst riding my mud caked bike, looking like I've shat myself 🤣

The looks divide opinion, I can see that from the comments. It really does come down to whether you want a dry ass or can live with a wet one! The decision seems easy.........if you enjoy a wet erse then don't use a guard. When I first saw you in your Blueman suit I though you were wearing a onesie, which may not be a bad idea in those conditions.

Yeah, I think you've summed it up well! I do have a onesie which is good when it is pouring down and cold. I quite like the separate trousers and jackets for most of my biking 👍

I have this mudguard on my Trek HT. I don't suppose that they are everyones cup of tea but I wouldn't be without mine keeping my ass dry! 🤣✌🏻

I have two bikes and one has a medium rear mudhugger which is big enough and brilliant .the other bike will have one tomorrow if the postie comes. as an old guy the last thing i want is a wet butt.

Hi James. Thanks for taking time to comment. Yeah, I think it's fair to say there are two camps on this one! If you haven't ridden one it's mostly about the looks. If you have tried one, you tend to realise how good it is not to be completely caked in mud! Hope that postie comes.

I use the bolt on front ones, short in the summer, long in the winter. I also use the rear one. It makes a massive difference and also keeps the sh*t off your expensive dropper post too! My only real gripe is they don't look very sexy (unlike that new bike of yours - I want to marry it and have its babies 🤣)

I have a friend that has one, its effective but occasionally itll try to eat a stone or rock leading to the attaching zip ties breaking leading to a loud BBBRRRR noise followed by him swearing. That and visually its bloody ugly lol

I haven't had the same issue but I can imagine the swearing 😆 I totally understand about the aesthetics. I guess it comes down to dry bum versus more standard looking bike. Cheers for taking time to comment and I hope you are getting some good winter rides in 👍

The only problem with the Muddhugger is it can dump all the mud back down onto your chain. I'd rather have a muddy arse than a muddy chain.

I haven't run into that issue myself, and at the moment my drive train gets covered regardless. I love winter riding but I'm really looking forward to dry trails again. Hope you are getting plenty riding 😁

It looks like an Alien has taken up residence on the rear of some poor guys bike... he wants to be careful, it might just take up residence inside the rear of him!. Who writes these articles?, that mudguard looks as inappropriate as the balls of a bullock atop a wedding cake!!!

Yes. Given that the primary function of a mudguard is to protect from mud then the title makes sense. Maybe I should of changed it to 'Is this the best looking mudguard?' I could've changed the video as well - I could've looked at the mudguard to decide if it was good looking, rather than testing if it protected against mud. Anyway, I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy this free to view content that you didn't have to watch. I'm glad it gave you the opportunity to write a comment though, which I'm sure you enjoy doing.
