Is this THE BEST sub-$100 ultralight saltwater reel? Daiwa Fuego 1000 LT XH.

A quick look at the Daiwa Fuego 1000 LT XH. Possibly my favourite ultralight spinning reel for crappie/perch/trout fishing.

I have two of these Fuegos I use in Freshwater. They are the most reliable and trouble free open face reels I’ve ever used.

this is the China special model (cs) witch means a model for the Chinese marked. it's a 21 model. but is just the same as the European 20 model. only difference is the body colour. I have the 2000 size of the European 20 model ( black body) and love it. also have the 2000 size legalis (20 mod). only upgrade i made on them is a line roller bearing upgrade instead of a bushing. the handle knob is unfortunately riveted instead og screwed. so can't upgrade with bearings without drilling the pin out and replace it. but really nice reels, and they are cheap. greetings from Norway and tight lines :o)

Wow, thank you for the information! It really is a great reel for the money. The handle knob on my 1000 legalis is super annoying but fortunately the Fuego doesn’t seem to have the same issue.

The second difference between 20 fuego and 21 CS model is that the knob in 21 Cs model has a screw,so it can be upgraded easily just like the 17 model.20 Model just like you said has soldered knob so it need a drill if you want to upgrade the knob.

Wait, I haven't seen any rubber seals on my European 20 model and I just got it. The CS on this video has rubber seals.

Thanks for the info! Everyone's comments have been very helpful. I've experienced the stem flex so I got rid of the 17 Fuego 2500. Is it only in North America that the Fuego doesn't have the Zaion body? I also have the CS version which has no flex and screw in handle knob. I'm looking for the same things in a 5000. I saw a Daiwa Fuego 20 LT model which has the Zaion frame. Is this the European version (black not red frame) that has the riveted handle knob? Am I correct in assuming the Zaion frame prevents the flexing? So do I need to get the CS version only? Thanks in advance.

Hi, dont do any saltwater how does it compare to the tsurinoya ranger? Yours looks good but didn't the fuego have line lay issues?

I just got a Daiwa Fuego 20 LT1000-XH (20 stands for 2020 model) which is the latest Fuego in all Europe (even at their 2023 catalogues), and I just saw here that there is a Fuego CS which is the 2021 version, is only available at AliExpress and is watertight with rubber seals? And on top of that I went to Daiwa US and saw that the latest US model of Fuego is the 23 LT1000-XH (2023 model) which is NOT listed under the saltwater reels (is this a freshwater model in the US?) and doesn't appear to have any water seals. Damn it Daiwa!

@thegoldenscalesclub what would you suggest for inshore saltwater fishing for pan size spotcheek emperor? While using 5 grams hard plastic sinking lure. Daiwa Fuego LT 1000 XH or Tsurinoya Ranger 800 /1000 ? Using 6lb mono line

That a really tricky one and a great question. They are both great reels and I don’t think you’d be unhappy with either. The ranger is smaller, lighter, has the best sounding drag clicker and is a joy to use. The Fuego is smoother (marginally), looks better and has a higher sell on value, it’s also the first reel I put in my bag when I’m heading out fishing at the moment. The XH model will have the higher gear ratio though which is something to consider.

The Fuego CS with the red body is the Asian market version, with the upgraded Zaion-V frame that the '21 Legalis LT has. In the North American market, we got the upgraded Zaion-V frame on the Legalis LT last year, but our version has blue and silver body and spool accents instead of the nicer black and gold that your European version has. However, for whatever reason, in North America Daiwa still in 2023 refuses to give us the upgraded Exceler and Feugo with the Zaion-V bodies, both of those still have the black body with the older DS5 carbon frame that flexes a lot more. Probably Daiwa has a lot of those frames already manufactured and needs to use them up and is dumping them on us here. I bought a couple of Fuego's but the body flex was too much for me and I returned them and got the 21 Legalis instead. I also never fish salt so no need for magseal that's going to be a major pain to service in the future.

The US market just got the new 23 exceler and fuego with the Zaion V and also Airdrive from the Exist.

@@danielwutfisho ...and both downgraded, losing the deluxe hollow air-bail and replaced with the cheapo thin-wire bail. No thanks. Why is it always one step forward and 2 steps back???

@@brianpeter7139 Yeah quite interesting they did away with the air bail. Felt the new daiwa aird lt with airdrive which is similar to legalis platform, and didn't feel much smoother however tolerances may have gotten tighter..

I think the cheapest magsealed Daiwa reel you can get with no reverse switch is the JDM/AU version of the Caldia...around $200 USD haha
