I'm unloading Acuna and tripling up on Wander~ Franco is killing it in the Punta Cana jailhouse recreation yard league and when attacked by the bloods the other day his sprint speed went thru the roof ~ the fastest Pedi in the yard..... Yep, Cha-ching.

The 2021 ACL injury didn’t concern me as much. He was running full speed, jumped and landed awkwardly. Fluke injuries happens. But as a lifelong Braves fan this injury terrifies me bc he was just taking his secondary lead and blew out his ACL. It makes me wonder if there’s something about his knees that makes him overly susceptible to injuries. Either way I hope he comes back and can stay healthy. MLB is better when superstars are healthy.

Shortly before the injury, I was able to trade some cards in exchange for a PSA 9 Bat Down Acuna (a card I never thought I'd be able to afford). I'm a Rays fan, but like to collect a couple nice cards of non-Rays players I like. A little bummed the card has gone down further in price since I acquired it, but I'm more bummed we don't get to watch Acuna this year. Regardless, I hope he comes back stronger than ever because he's fun to watch and I'm still glad I have a nice Acuna auto and my new Bat Down SP to display next to it. Thanks for this video - I feel better about Acuna's potential to still be a great player for years to come!

Acuña will be fine. He will have to ease up on the steals and probably DH more often than not but he is only 26 and already have a 40-70 MVP season under his belt.
@wutango36o4 ай бұрын
Will be fine? Umm no. You're down playing a terrible injury in his other knee. He didn't bounce back right away from the previous, and this is his other knee that is making him breakdown even more. This impacts his long term trajectory, impact to the Braves chances. If your ok with him being a good player rather than elite, then sure he'll be fine. But to think he'll be elite. Those days could be over in a blink of an eye. He is losing the heart of his prime.

I am holding and WILL buy any ,more rare refractors RCs that hit auction. I think you are spot on here...if he pars back the running, playing all yr long and just focuses on hitting he can EASILY be on average a 30Hr + player. Project that out for 8-10 yrs and he is at 460+ Hrs (165 current +300 projected). The big questions will be can he STAY healthy for that period and can he actually hit above those projections for a given period - let's say 4 of those 10 yrs he gets to 40 Hrs....which I think he can. THE REALLY CRAZY THING is even after missing so many yrs, the guy is still only 26 and has accumulated the stats he has so far! If he would have stayed healthy all this time he would have been in the talk of gen talent!
@chrisc42644 ай бұрын
It's also worth noting that I'd bet he was playing injured in the first place. So a really bad decision on his part. I unfortunately still have the 18 bat down plus plenty of sealed wax. Luckily, 18 has many other rookies to stay afloat like Ohtani, Devers, Soto, and Albies.

Great analysis once again Scottie. Always dangerous to invest in young players. Prospects < Young Stars < Proven Veterans < Hall of Famers in terms of risk. Of course, it's the exact opposite in terms of reward. Just depends on what your goals are.

Bit early to say it's the end end but perhaps like Tatis there will be a period of denial/shock where sellers are unwilling to take the hit but as time goes on there will be significant downward pressure on his cards. Acuna's situation is very different to Tatis' of course but with so much young talent around Acuna will be flung out the back fairly quickly as Soto, Witt Jr, Henderson and a host of other guys hog the limelight. P.S. If I owned any Acuna BCA's for investment purposes I'd be selling them asap.

I would think that a player with bad knees would slow down pretty quickly after recovery. But maybe they have some medical advancements that aren't available to most people.

The baseball card market might need to make adjustments because not only Ron Jr but also maybe for Ohtani since pitchers in general gets hurt a lot were there card prices drop back down before the boom of 2020.
@1stBowman4 ай бұрын
I sold all my Acuna cards straight after he first got injured in 2021 and the only card I regret selling was the Batdown PSA9 which I pulled in 2018 and graded myself. I got $500 for it at the time which was close to the lowest sale of the card after the peak but in hindsight was a good price. I'd be tempted to buy back a batdown as it's such a great card for $150-$200 but it won't be the same as the one I sold. The moral is to never sell cards you have a sentimental attachment to. All the other Acuna cards I sold like the Topps Chrome PSA10, BB Refractor PSA10, etc I don't regret as they are plentiful and I got a good price for them $200USD for the Topps Chrome and $150 for the BB. 2017 Bowman sealed wax is going to take a significant hit now one would imagine. There's not much outside Acuna in that product. Go Soto!!!!
@JosephG04294 ай бұрын
I only have 1 graded Acuna card, which I’ll hold. Acuna’s prices will continue to drop and flatten out by the end of the year. Based upon his spring training in 2025 that will determine in prices go up or continue to drop.
