You can always request a chargeback on your credit card for the amount you think you were overcharged. Always be sure when you're disputing with a merchant face to face that you tell them that you will let them charge the card, but that you don't agree with the charges and you will be filing a chargeback request with your credit card company. A lot of merchants straighten things out on site then because they get dinged for the chargebacks, so they want to avoid the bad mark on their merchant account. Use this as your leverage to negotiate. So sorry you had all of this happen to you, but I really appreciate you showing the unglamorous side. Our friend is a disabled vet, and his wife is lovely, but they had a tent and no bathroom (so to speak). We had a bathroom in our R POD so we told the B that our friends would be using our facilities. Get out of there as soon as you are fixed. Well though I feel for your plight, I agree with the campground. You’re in a spot that someone else can be in. Even if there may be empty spots. If you stay in a hotel, even if you sit and use nothing, you still have to pay a day rate if it’s past check out, and a full night after check in wether you stay the night or not. This is because it’s unlikely you can clean the room for resell. And at a campground, unlikely you will get a late booking in. Even if there are empty rooms. It’s a business not a charity. 30$ was reasonable. They should at least authorize your card at the time you check in to a hotel or campsite. Meaning it’s a hold for the amount per the full stay plus more for incidentals, then AFTER you vacate they proper amount is charged to your card. It’s not the same as a restaurant where you pay after. You do have to have the funds upfront for most places you stay. Including campgrounds. The fact that you think they can’t charge your card without your permission, it’s inaccurate in this situation. You gave them your card, and usually have to sign in with a registration form that should state the agreed night rate plus tax. On the other side of it, like I said, they should have done a preauth on your card and then complete the preauth only after you have physically vacated. This way if you have any complaints, or additional charges, you can then approve or dispute charges at check out. Or pay cash if you change how you want to pay. Then the preauth is canceled instead of refunded. This is the professional thing to do. I also do feel the campsite woman needs to be better trained in guest services and learn how to properly accommodate your unique situation.

Couldn't agree more. I'm sorry but I kinda see these two as dummies. It was probably a $8 relay that they payed $7k for because they clearly haven't a clue. How people like this ever think they're gonna take an old bus around the country, relying on mechanics, oyyy

As a mechanic myself, I do understand some of this dilemma. Its almost as much as a full rebuild and that to me is either absorbent or someone is not monitoring the rig that they drive. I understand how easy it is to get caught up in the moment of travel, but no hints of impending problems.... it has gauges so it should of let you know whether the engine is low on oil or overheating... those two are on you if you don't pay attention. I would of thought that some minor repairs could me made like oil and water are easy enough to monitor. I just can't see it letting go as its quite old so it shouldn't have that many computer problems. A price that high signals to me that the engine failed completely and that would me it ran out of one of those things or the engine is seriously laboring with the weight its carrying. I would think it should handle most of the stuff added as it carried a lot of people and they can add up to some serious weight. No indication something was going wrong means to me that some education on your part is necessary to avoid it happening again. A lot of really nice rigs go to wrecking yards because the owner couldn't fix and the shop said either pay or no play. I don't like it and most would agree that looking at this situation someone is being taken advantage of. A no break mechanic should have such karma come back on him an see how it feels. I am also gathering that with the little bits of gratuities from youtube is what is keeping you on the road and going to different places. I really think the hardest is yet to come as they will not let someone come into their RV park and make money working as dishwashers and other menial jobs that earn money while you get what it needs to run again. I do hope a go fund you or something pulls through but both of you need to get some kind of work going to keep up this adventure. I am quite sorry about your situation but it does point to someone not paying attention or someone is ripping you off. Riding in a tow truck is as expensive as getting it fixed.

I agree... People think business owners have endless amounts of cash.. not true! They have overhead on everything thing.... You use something you pay... She was nice enough to only charge you half price.... That's more than the repair shop did! Sorry to to say..bad things happen to good people...

When you guys run into people like this try and remember to see things from their perspective as well. All of the real problems that you're experiencing have probably been told to them many many times but were made up by other people who were trying to scam them.

Trimigrants ...I love it. Nice mix in the video. Transparency. I like it. Life on the road can be a rough at times. Its an exchange. Its like a covenant. Your video also shows examples of Love and compassion thru those who understand ,and coldness from those who don't and have no interest to understand. Law of the "Road"...sow the right seeds ...and the Harvest will be a little further down it.

I have to say, it is pretty standard for campgrounds to charge anyone who comes in or stays after 2 or 3 p.m. on a day, no matter if they stay overnight or not. That's not really about you guys. That's how they run business. You are in a space in the campground, and it doesn't really matter if you're using anything or not. You are using the space on their property. Just a perspective from someone who has been in the business of running campgrounds (which btw is expensive to do and often hard to stay afloat in). This is normal practice and it isn't about you or your bus.

To add, during Covid the place I worked went under after 47 years open because of a pandemic and flooding hitting the same year. A generational business gone in just a few short months of hardship. I hope people here hoping to boycott this place can pan their view out a bit and realize that businesses have rules for a reason, whether you like it or not, and that doesn't make them bad people.

@@somerandomyoutubechannel5816 this is the exact reason we didn't want to share the campground's name. We understand times are tough, and understand why she wanted us to pay. It was more her judgement of us/charging our card without our permission that upset us. It seems like she may have learned not to be so judgmental, but we can only hope!

My wife and I probably met the same lady running a campground in California. We pulled in late at night in our one ton, pickup with a very expensive and large camper in the bed, pulling a nice jeep. She didn't accept campers and would not rent us a space and asked us to leave. She wouldn't even let me drive in to turn around. Have you ever backed a large camper out with a jeep in tow?

As an owner operator I totally understand what you felt that day. But prices are not shocking me anymore. I was charged over 4k in MT to get air compressor replaced on one of my trucks.

That's crazy. Camps with hookups around here are 20 bucks or less. Good luck guys.
@meeko2006taz874 жыл бұрын
There's a fine line between being kind to the lady and being walked all over. I have a ton of patience but I would've called her on her bull. "You didn't book the spot ma'am the park is mostly empty. You admitted to charging my card yet you still expect me to ok a new charge. Did you ask me why I am here and if I'm a so called trimmigrant? There's a nice way to ask and that's asking what we do for a living. Hold your prejudice!"

@@KelsAndJay , also invest in a repair manual for that bus. You would be surprised how much you can do yourselves with a good repair manual and some basic mechanic tools and a diagnostic scanner.

As someone who has worked 18 plus years for a tow company I am not a fan of good sam.... I highly suggest you get AAA RV plus(premier). I work for a tow company and I pay for it for my daughter. Thats what a fan of it I am. Also, next time you get towed I would suggest you get towed to a tractor dealer/repair shop. Like a freightliner dealer or similar. They are use to having drivers stay in their trucks also. If you don't know where one is the driver of the large wrecker will know. He could probably take you there blindfolded.

I was a trucker and mechanic. They spend half a day on just diagnostics and stated need for new fuel pump and other parts; charged thousands and still would not run. Then stated possibly ECM; THAT should have been checked in the diagnostics. THEN discovered a faulty relay....WTF. They should eat the fuel pump since apparently they replaced a perfectly good working one. Get the pump from them; have it tested and box it; if they won't give it to you record it and use that as evidence with their invoice; stated bad pump, replaced it and still wouldn't start; you'd win your case. THEN sue the shit out of that shop and bring in the pump as evidence. From your statement of what happened you started idled and stopped. No mechanical noises etc. My first thought is electrical; check the fuel shut off solenoid. I would then check the start and run circuit; I have no power then likely problem, that okay then crack an injector line on the pump and crank it; no fuel chec tank lift pump filters to engine; if okay then maybe pump. A jumper wire for test and bus starts you found your problem. Another thing I want to bring up and I don't know what year they Cummins fixed is what is called TDPOD - the dowl pin of death. There is a lot of videos about it; the steel pin works it way out of the block under the timing cover and destroys the timing gears and cover. Get the engine service manual and one for the bus and study it; make yourself more mechanically inclined; you save on repairs and know when getting screwed. I work as a freelance mechanic and I never made a bad call because I'd eat it.

Really bummed to hear about the bus discrimination bit :/ Also, sorry to see the large mechanic's estimate.
