I can appreciate this dilemma, I often find myself struggling with my compulsion of getting trophies which more often then not is just me following a guide, doing second playthroughs, or repetitive grinds instead of playing one of the incredible games sitting in my backlog. I really need to nail down what’s worth my time to do and what isn’t. Interesting video Lewis and I understand your plight. The platinum KZbin space is full of the same old drivel and it's incredibly boring. Annoying titles about how some game's platinum made them homeless or something. And just gameplay with their face cam in the corner as they chronologically tell you each trophy they earned. I love Adam McDermot's videos as they tell a story, they're a journey, they're an epic. If you go down a similar route I'd happily watch. And doing it as a series is a great idea too. Make the videos you want to make! I've followed you from the early days of covid and watch you evolve and I've enjoyed the direction. I think your videos are generally unique, funny without being cringey and they always look like something you wanted to make and were proud of. Keep it up and how about a game in the Yakuza series?

Hope you are doing well bro. I've missed your videos. Looking at some of the games you had been getting the plats for and the ridiculous grinds they were demanding, I'm not surprised you needed a break. For trophy youtubers I see alot of people just trying to go for the hardest games out there but at the same time the platinum journey can be interesting for any game regardless of difficulty. And to get your honest opinion on your experience. Looking at my recent games, im not sure what to suggest since im going through a backlog and doing some MP games like Sea of Thieves. I found Vampire Survivors to be mindless fun though.

I only started “trophy hunting” about 9/10 months ago and saw your content pretty quickly. You’re so good, but it was clear that you were enjoying it less than you had done in the past. Your ideas for the future are great but what really makes content appeal (to me at least) is the person making it. You’re very likeable and charismatic. Personally, videos under half an hour are perfect for me. I can watch them on my commute. Would love to see you do a series like you mentioned. I don’t have any game suggestions other than make sure it’s a game you will enjoy to play. In my opinion watching content where someone is saying they hated a game is not as interesting. Finally, hobbies change over time. Like I said I only did this for the last year, so now I’m enjoying it, but before that it was something else for a while and before that, something else etc.. don’t feel bad if you just started to feel like an interest had run its race with you. Good luck for 2025. We will be there whatever you decide to venture to.

The honesty in this video takes a lot and I genuinely sympathise for what you’re saying. I really like your content and have watched it for a year or so but honestly your audience will know if you’re not enjoying it and are doing either the challenge of the platinum or the adjacent content out of obligation, rather than because its what you wanna do. Taking some time away and maybe diversifying and trying some different content might be the right steps, but from me at the very least I’d rather see one of your videos every 3 months if its something you’re passionate about, rather than one every week of generic, disinterested slop. So... Your arguments and logic are extremely valid. Especially in terms of effort/yield comparison with similar products (in this case videos). Unfortunately no one really knows the reason why approach A succeeds and B doesn't. There are no definitive metrics. I also don't get it in a situation such as yours, but what can we do? A huge part of success is sheer luck. It -is- disappointing.
@PlatinumBro23 күн бұрын

I feel like based on your last video addressing trophy burnout that this was coming personally as a trophy hunter the standout platinums for me are the once where I remember the journey more than the achievement I can't imagine doing it for my job and playing some truly miserable games in the process. How I pick what game to platinum is just on a whim now rather than what I did before where I worked through a list hell right now I am platinuming FF7 remake again because I wanted to play it and since I dont have the ps5 version and I've done rebirth last year I just picked it because I felt like it.

The moment you decided that you deserved more views than other people, you lost the game. That kind of thinking sends you on a downwards spiral of bitterness and resentment and it oozes out of you. People can feel it, even if they can't always see or hear it. If you don't genuinely love making videos, even if they're only seen by 20 people and never make you a penny in revenue, people will pick up on that and look elsewhere. The reality is that 99.999% of people who play video games as their primary hobby will never make a living from it, and for those that do, it is largely down to luck.
@mydogeatspuke24 күн бұрын
@PhilipeeAlberto I'm pretty sure some of the bigger ones use save wizard too, but that's not really the point. Trophies are really niche within a massively oversaturated gaming market, and there are only so many hours in a day. I know I'd much rather play the games myself than watch some guy on YT list the trophies as he unlocked them (let alone over multiple videos...), and I'm definitely not going to be seeking out more guys doing that same thing, especially guys who don't even enjoy what they're doing. Or girls, I guess. Although they tend to lean into the grrrl gamer thing and that annoys me. I feel like way too many people think it's going to be easy money, forgetting that when you turn your hobby into your job you always end up hating it.
@PlatinumBro24 күн бұрын
Yeh you are kind of right. But, sadly you don't get it,which is fine because most people haven't created something where the success is largely dependent on your effort, skill and an algorithm you have no control over. I never thought my content deserved more, I just believed I deserved an equal chance because my stats showed that my videos were not being pushed to a larger audience. I really enjoying making videos and the editing process but to keep up with the demands of youtube and the amount of content it requires to keep you 'relevant'. It places a large burden on a content creator. So you're left with either editing when you want as a hobby, so 4-5 hours a week. This would equate to most likely 1 video every 3-4 months. Or Trying to take something you love to a level where you can do your dream job and this requires a commitment beyond what most people can manage which is why most youtubers are people under 23-24 as they tend to have minimal life commitments. You ever wanted something more than anything in the world but then not be able to achieve it because of someone else? Then see 100 people achieve your goal with the help of the thing stopping you from reaching your dream? welcome to youtube. it cuts deep. So when people comment superficial things, it shows that they don't watch my content, don't know what I am about and don't appreciate my honesty which quite frankly, others on youtube wouldn't have the stones to say.
@OrlandoGouveiaaa24 күн бұрын
@PlatinumBro I 100% get wanting something so bad and wanting your hard work to be rewarded. But for example LudiXP has been putting effort for 10 years, or Adam Mcdermott puts in 3 months to make a video. Personally, I don't feel "Marvin Rivals made me go insane" or Police Simulator vids with the same algorithm friendly thumbnails is as that worthy for success as maybe you think? But I also agree that a lot of the big trophy creators make low effort vids and are rewarded, which then probably creates some bitterness
@mydogeatspuke24 күн бұрын
@@PlatinumBro I.. don't get wanting to succeed? Working hard? Still not getting very far in spite of all that time and effort? Lol, yes, you are the only person on the planet who has felt these feelings and had these experiences, that is a great way to engage with an audience. Hahahaha FFS. And you did in fact say that you felt that you deserved the views more than other people. Multiple times. And explained why, like for example they didn't even finish the games that you did finish, they didn't put as much effort in as you did, their videos weren't as well put together as yours were etc. You had an equal chance the moment you uploaded. You aren't being held back by some mean powerful entity that doesn't want to see you succeed, or is promoting someone else over you. Someone else's success has nothing to do with your failure. You took your shot and you missed, that's life. There aren't any demands on here beyond those that you place on yourself, and "relevancy" is entirely subjective. There are plenty of content creators who only play niche games and upload a handful of times a year and they have great success. People happily wait for their uploads and engage with their content because they like their personalities. You come across as entitled and that isn't endearing. It makes people not want to watch you. You aren't special for being "honest," and putting others down to try and get yourself higher is more of that negativity that puts people off. As for what people comment on your videos being "superficial," surely you should be grateful that anyone even bothered to take the time out of their day to give you that attention in the first place? It's the people who engage with your content that provide you with the success that you feel you deserve. By criticising the engagement you do get, you are pushing the small viewership you have away. You'll never make it big without viewers, and you don't have to like them all or pretend you're a family or whatever, but very few people genuinely enjoy being unnecessarily criticised. Especially when they don't even have to be there in the first place. You really need a massive attitude and perspective overhaul.

You make great, professional videos. I'd say just play the games you enjoy. I'm at 109 platinums over like 15 years, but my completion % is in the 30s, as I only go for the platinum if it's fun and don't let it hold me back from experiencing a good game, or dropping a bad grind. I play to unlock trophies as well. It scratches that OCD itch and gives me a sense of completion with the game when the plat pops. I’m reasonable with myself and usually don’t take on huge time sucking games, unless that’s the kind of challenge I’m craving. At the end of the day, it is a big waste of time and unfulfilling, but it’s all for digital glory at the end of the day. Balance is key, and when I feel overwhelmed or like I’m not enjoying what I’m playing, that’s usually a sign to play something else, or just walk away from it for a few days. The itch always comes back.

You can then just play games in genres and series that interest you, you’ll get a lot more out of gaming I think. Listening to the rest of the video, maybe besides multiplayer, there’s not many series or genres you like ? That’s actually fair enough. I’ve been really into Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, PS Vita games and Metal Gear Solid lately, maybe have a think about what series you’d like to play, Yakuza?

Hey man, I understand the struggle. It's good to take breaks to gain a mental reset and to see if you're truly still into what you're doing. If it doesn't feel fun or rewarding, change is necessary. The extent of the change is different for everyone. It's good that you're exploring new types of experiences and content. Who knows what new ideas and concepts will emerge from those new passions!

Hey mate, CC here on a burner with just under 800k subs (film/game commentary). I like your videos, but I definitely think you could tweek a few things! 1 - You're putting too much emphasis on more time consuming editing = more views. Realistically, the first 100k and even 200k it's way more important to keep realeasing content at a quicker rate. You're way more likely to grow if viewers know that at a specifc time or date they get a new Platbro vid. Your personality matters more than "the perfect video with great editing." Become part of someone's routine instead of a cool video that might come every 4 weeks. I don't know your budget, but I would say hiring an editor to speed up your output is way more important than nicer recording equipment It's hard I know, but even for myself, some videos I made in 4 days got over 1M views while a detailed essay I made in 1 month got 50k. 2. A bit obvious but your content is super niche, trophy hunting is probably 0.1% of gamers if that. You mention you find them a drag, I'd advise broadening your content to a wider audience. For example, reviewing 2-3 games every month with your own creative spin will probably do much better than a "I platted this game" once a month. 3. Some creators who are 1000x more talented than you and I have never cracked a 10k video, that's life sadly. You HAVE to make videos on something you truly love, otherwise everything is a chore which feels 10x worse when the video does badly. Don't compare yourself to your "competitors". KZbin is weird lol. I hope this comment didn't come across condescending, btw. Good luck!

I started getting into platinums and found your channel just after Covid started but now I’m the same as you, having a burn out. I play for 15 mins and just give up. Astro got me excited again but now that’s done I just can’t be arsed with anything else. Spider-man 2 and Dead island 2 platinums were the last good games for me. I wonder if all your followers are feeling the same now life, post Covid, is returning to normal?

I think what people don't realize is that platinum videos aren't about the platinum itself but the challenge + story of the players journey. So making these kinds of videos isn't for everyone because of the soul crushing nature of the grind. That said, if your videos were objectively better then you're title/thumbs are the issue and vice versa if not. KZbin Algo = audience and you need to cater your content to the intended audience. Hope the next step in your KZbin journey is successful

You should be proud of yourself for trying to achieve your dreams. Not a lot of people do that. Great video. I thought about doing platinum videos but I don't really care about them now tbh and would rather do other things with my life that are not gaming related. The views point is expected (aka ItsIllusion especially hahaha, Studdy push slop content that is like "I want to get platinum let's do this check list" but they are being rewarded for this). It's a shame but this niche is too saturated at this point even Nick Ar has somewhat stagnated. Only Joelemz is standing out the most. You made a valiant effort and you should be proud of that. Treat yourself and take care of yourself for a bit. Have a nice 2025!

After platinuming a near 300 hour game like Baldur’s Gate 3 the perfect palate cleanser was Astro Bot and both deserved being Game of the Year in 2023 & 2024, as for game to recommend to plat I’d the the modern Resident Evil remakes are since they are on the shorter side and the plats keep rolling if you know how to play and plat one of them, plus I don’t think a multiplayer game should ever win game of the year again just look at overwatch for example don’t want to repeat that mistake again
@weg1k4023 күн бұрын
I have followed since the start. You do everything well, I would suggest to not compare yourself because most of your talk at the start of this video is about what others are getting with less effort. Maybe transition your content to something else, maybe just about gaming in general. That was you are still creating content on KZbin. Also on the side you can then play what you want, when you want and platinum games you actually enjoy and want to play. Rather than do it just for the sake of your videos. I wouldn’t give up, just tweak your movements a bit mate

I think what you're doing is keeping very true to yourself, mate. And you're the most important person to you. I think you've made the right call to step back for a bit and the ideas you've put forward for your channel are intriguing and i look forward to seeing where platbro goes. My suggestion for a game is a wild one you'll instantly dismiss but im going to shoot my shot. Hearing your disdain and thoughts on AstroBot and how it does nothing for you could be a blessing in disguise. It might be cool to see a series around obtaining a platinum in Astro Bot to see if you can be converted from a non believer to a believer. To go in, unlike many others into the title with no feelings on it or even to see if you enjoy the journey. I think personally although a platformer you'd enjoy all the throwbacks to games you've likely spent platinuming in the past. The nostalgia hit is something else and sharing stories from previous platinums whilst going through the game and meeting these old characters could be nice. The series could likely have many fun annecdotes from your time spent with Playstation and creating content around it. With Astro being all the rage these days it could bring people in to your channel and bolster your subscriber count, also. Whatever you decide Platbro. I'm going to stick around for your journey. I think you've got the right morals and i always enjoy the effort you put in to your content. Thanks for not completely disappearing and allowing us a deeper insight into your headspace. Wishing you all the best, mate. 🤘

As a fellow (smaller) content creator, I recommend putting out content you are passionate about, at a pace which doesn't stress you out or cause anxiety. Treat KZbin with less commitment and upload videos that you want to in the way you want to, not worrying about what your audience "expects" of you. The burnout will go away once you start doing things exactly the way you want to with no outside pressures weighing you down. Some additional ideas: 1. You can try quantity over quality if you want to accelerate growth in a shorter amount of time. 2. You can start to upload videos that have nothing to do with trophy hunting, and again, do not worry about complaints from the audience, just do what you want to do and the rest will fall in place!

Play with friends have a laugh and enjoy! Wanted to give you a hug in the end! Haha keep your doublechin up 😘

Think it might be worth when selecting your games going forward to obviously make sure it's a good game for 1, but also what the trophy list is like. For example RDR2 is a good game but the trophy list is just not fun and doesn't add anything to the experience. Then take a game like cuphead where the trophies are all related to actual content of the game and enhance the experience, this might be a good way to stop the burn out and keep things feeling more fresh. As a plat recommendation of 2025 I'd suggest a metroidvania called Afterimage :)

How about a triple playlist format where certain games make it into a Kiss Marry Kill set of playlists, kinda like a cut off of enjoyment/fulfilment/desire where the game ends up in one of the three lists that gives you an easy out if you beat a game but don't fancy the next 50 hour grind for the plat? It almost then becomes a recommended plat list too which would be really interesting, because if you felt you really wanted to 100% a game then it's worth looking into for those of us that don't have it or have even considered it?
@unlucky_thir13en25 күн бұрын
Hi Lewis, it's your brand and channel so you should approach things in a way that makes you happy, but I just wanted to say as a viewer that you don't need to put in god-tier editing. You don't need to plat everything and burn yourself out on trophy hunting and the community. People that stuck with you did so because they found you funny or relatable or down-to-earth or whatever, and especially since this channel isn't your full-time job, I hope you can take a step back and enjoy your hobby as a hobby, and post the moments or thoughts that you're fine sharing with the rest of us. Also as a suggestion, it might help to tackle games/projects that are much shorter and a bit different than what you've traditionally gone for. They won't be as favored by the algorithm, but there are some excellent indie games that take a dozen hours or so to complete (as opposed to something like Anthem 😏) that might make for some wonderful experiences and be a good shakeup in the trophy hunting vid scene. Some of my favorite suggestions here would be The Sexy Brutale, Inside, Limbo, Transistor, The Messenger, and Soma. If you want some excellent JRPGs on the shorter side (20-30 hours to complete), I recommend Fuga: Melodies of Steel, The Diofield Chronicle, and the Voice of Cards trilogy (all standalone and around 15 hours per plat).
@alexashby447525 күн бұрын
Have to agree that unfortunately with a few exceptions, such as your mate Adam Mcdermott, a lot of the popular trophy hunting videos are just barely edited cut down streams, and don’t show a love for the game or any creativity, like you do. They just slap a click bait thumbnail and job done haha. We all need breaks, I didn’t earn a platinum from April till October in 2024, and I was fine with that. When I got one again, it felt natural. I don’t always comment but must have been watching your content for must be 3 years now, and I’ve always enjoyed it, I look forward to any new content you put out! But yeah, if you’re working a full time job and doing 30 hours a week on KZbin, fuck that haha, hats off for the effort you’ve put in, it does show
@shadowmaksim25 күн бұрын
To be honest, the best thing I've done for myself trophy-wise was to largely detach myself from the community. While I won't say it's necessarily bad, I just haven't been a fan of the direction trophy hunting has been becoming as a hobby. So I decided to just keep it mostly private and I think I've been enjoying the activity more as a result. At most, I watch a trophy list review here and there but even those I've started passing over for a number of reasons. I still trophy hunt, just as much as I always have, but I don't bring attention to it. I just play the games I'm interested in and getting their platinum (or 100%) as part of how I enjoy playing them. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. So with that, I can't even begin to imagine the stress and anxiety as being an actual creator with an audience, with expectations. Much less being at the mercy of the complete whims of the algorithm. There is no simple answer that will magically fix every issue. And it's not like I'm an expert to offer advice anyway At the end of the day, you can only really do what you think is best for yourself. Whatever that might be.

You’re describing a problem that is persistent with many KZbin small channels. I’ve been here since 2006 and I honestly think YT was much better back then. Too many people chase the clout, try to cash in, and get burnt out because the algorithm decided to mess with them. Leaderboards were always pointless.

sounds like a good balance you have there buddy. I think in any sort of media creation, i guess we can call it that, it does consist of trying be relevant while also making the content you want and hope that it works. I think 30K sub channel is not bad. But the problem with your and many small channels is the image. Some channel start with PS4 PS5 content and suddenly years after switch to Nintendo Switch. You on the other hand did many things, you did a lot of single player platinum videos, then suddenly switched to multiplayer online platinums (which I did't care). You did podcast well, then suddenly stopped doing this. I especially liked with GuyFarrusky , AdamMcDermot, and NickAR. So my opinion is to try to aim for a specific audience, and not do 100 diffent things if you want your channel grow. But if this channel is only your hobby than I think its completely fine, and 30K is absolutely good.

I've been following your videos for a few years now and for some reason I feel the need to type something others have already pointed out below me, I usually don't comment often. Passion for trophies comes and goes, just like any hobby. What kinda worries me is when you brought up league. You probably won't listen to some advice a stranger will give you, but I'll type it anyway. League or dota or any moba, have tendencies to damage or even ruin lives. I see myself from a few years ago in you a lot in this stage that you're in now. They ruin a lot of productivity you can make, just one game of moba is at least 25-30 mins, and it goes by in an instant. Second, about the quality of your videos, I'll try to explain in the most human way possible. Your videos lately have been mostly a skip for me, I try to watch them and I just get bored out of my mind. You're completely right about your editing skills and how much they improved, congrats on that btw. But I think the reason why I find them boring is that they feel fake, not in a sense that you yourself don't want to make them, but that you don't enjoy the main part of the process, and that's playing the games you're making your videos on. It feels like you pick the video first, not the game you're gonna play, if that makes sense, and people can feel that while watching your videos. That's all, congrats on reading all this, since I remember you talking about how you sometimes have issues concerating on one thing at a time. I hope you make a great comeback one day, love you dude.

@animefanatic267422 күн бұрын
Well, that is what separates a KZbinr from a hobby-tuber. Even if it is the same 3-4 recycled jokes, hundreds of thousands of people watch it. Big difference between pushing out content, even if it is just the same, and not pushing content out at all. And shit, it pays the bills. Discrediting other big youtubers because of your subjective opinion, doesn't make the bigger youtubers lose any money. They found a formula that works for them, the algorithm and the viewers. They keep grinding to make this more than just a hobby. If you don't put in the grind and try to stand out, then you're going to miss the bus. All it takes is a good formula and maybe 1 or 2 viral videos. And it's not rocket science to try and figure out what the people want to watch. It may be a bit "unfair" that some platinum youtubers who were rookies when Lewis had already established himself, have now gone on to become 10x bigger than PlatinumBro and his buddies. But it's hardly surprising. They keep doing this, no matter what. And that's what makes them stand out. if you really wanted this, you would grind, no matter how "burned out" you are. Even if it's just recycled jokes, editing, games or whatever - it works.
