BallisticNG is the spiritual successor to the first 3 Wipeouts. It has the option for an immersive cockpit view and a VR mode. Well worth checking out.

Unfortunately it uses the Wipeout/W2097/W3 physics, not the Pure/Pulse/HD/2048 physics that Omega Collection uses.

@@thegambler9994 There is a mode which can allow you to play with the HD physics. You can enable it by going into the main menu, going into cheats under the extras section and changing the physics mode to 2280 mode.

Studio Liverpool is long gone unfortunately. BNG is the closest thing we have on replicating the WipeOut physics, both old and new.

One small correction: Wipeout 64 was not the first Wipeout featuring analog controls. Wipeout supported analog controls from its very start on the PlayStation via Namco's NeGcon and racing wheels in general.

@@squills1 Probably not officially, since the controller came out after Wipeout was released (not sure about the second though). But IIRC the 3D controller was detected as a wheel in older games that had wheel support. So, if Wipeout had wheel support, you could use the 3D controller there as well.

I discovered the Designer's Republic because of Wipeout. As I was getting ready to go to Uni and chose Graphic Design. So it influenced my choice there. Then I ended up finding a book about them at the Uni's library and found out were they were in the UK and what their studio vibe was (back then seeing people working in random tables instead of assigned desks, wearing headphones, chilling around, etc was still unique in Europe). So years later, since that helped me dreaming of one day working in the UK, I ended up deciding to move there. Went to try for six months, just to take that dream out of my checklist, and ended up staying for nearly 6 years, leaving amazing memories and some friends for life :D The Designer's Republic was so influential.. And Wipeout is on my list of top games forever because of what it meant in that sense. And if the game didn't exist it's possible I would have never had this amazing experience in my life. Well, that and also introducing me to Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers :D

SONY told Studio Liverpool AG Racers weren't popular after HD was released, and there were to be no more [must mean USA, as it has always been popular in Europe], but then SONY released the VITA, and told them to make 2048 for it. The Omega packed surprised everyone. Historically SONY has always used Wipeout to demo their new technology, don't be surprised if the same happens with the VR2 release, probably under SONY XDEV with a good deal of help from Firesprite studio, which SONY bought, and was started by the two former heads of Psygnosis/Studio liverpool.

For now yes. Unfortunately Sony is too busy “cinematic experiences” to the point where all their games look and play similar. Maybe Sony might make a new Wipeout game for PSVR2 but I doubt they’ll make a conventional Wipeout game anytime soon.

I mean, at least Sony actually gave you a remake of your best titles. We F-Zero fans got nothing from Nintendo for over twenty years after GX, and then a 99 style Battle Royale based on the original SNES game (which, to be fair, is a lot of fun, but not really what we were wanting). But what really annoys me is that, with games like BalisticNG and Redout 2 on the WipeOut side of AG racing gameplay, and Aero GPX and XF: eXtreme Formula on the F-Zero side, and with the general renaissance the AG racing genre is having, the originators of the genre are completely ignoring all of that and claiming "there's no interest", "no one would buy it", etc. and only producing half-assed "appeasement" titles. It's almost like Sony and Nintendo specifically _want_ the AG racing genre to die off, as though there's something about it they're either afraid of or hate.

If you want the first 3 then try BallisticNG and get some track and car mods for it because like every car and track from those 3 were ported and the physics are almost identical. Customization of that game is insane, and it has native support for Windows, Mac, and Linux

I must be so out of touch. I enjoyed Wipeout Fusion so much. Grew up on the original games and thoroughly enjoyed those too, but the upgrade paths on Fusion just ticked all the boxes for me. Stopped playing after Wipeout Pure, then picked up the Omega collection. Been playing that ever since. WipEout won't die, it'll come back some day.

Wipeout Fusion has been retconned out of the canon somewhat, with the wierd feel and edgy vibe of the game having an in-universe explaination, thst being corporate meddling and corruption. (Look up the lore for the Wipeout series. Its very fascinating. Temtesh Bay is very infamous in the lore of the series).

Wipeout would thrive today with the upgrade the consoles have now. 120fps would make the game finally feel bloody fast and have great graphics etc. the one thing i wish they would focus on is not only track but like sprint tracks with multiple routes to take to get to the finish line. And also making the game feel more intense and like have a weapon system thats less of a one click destroy vibe but a system of having to master different weapons

WipEout fusion is actually really fun, having a fighting component and not necessarily focusing on the race all the time is rather refreshing, it doesn't feel the same as eliminator but it's unique on it's own way and I kind of get why it got that reputation, but there is no denying that it's fun

I didn't really get into the Wipeout series until Wipeout Pure. After that, it's been probably my favorite futuristic racing game. The graphical style and interface design and atmosphere is just better than anything else out there. The only other game I enjoy in a similar vein is Grip which is like a spiritual successor to Psygnosis' Rollcage games. Not sure if some of the same devs were actually involved with it.

I love the Wipeout games. The best experience was the omega collecting on the PS4 and the original PSVR. I would love to play that again on PSVR2. A new Wipeout would be awesome as well........ hopefully worth VR support

We all know Sony would do it, and we all know that the game’s formula could be translated to a live service setting very easily. Wipeout should show people that it is more or less the goal to master the game so you can play at Phantom or Rapier. It’s a totally different game then on Venom speed. And even reviewers show pretty slow and crappy footage.

Sony killed off so many studios with the PS4 that I lost interest in Playstation. WipEout, Motorstorm, etc. The PS3 already had less fun and unique exclusives than the PS2, but the PS4 was a disaster.

Wipeout rush isnt available in the US. Im not even mad. It looks like garbage. The good news is that even a mid tier android device will run ps1 and psp emulators with ease. Gimme wipeout 3 special edition and wipeout pure hacked and Im all set. 😊
