Mick Taylor plays the Bass on this masterpiece. One of their best tracks ever written
@Boatzilla22 жыл бұрын
I love this line, "There's some little jerk in the FBI keeping papers on me 6 feet high." Times haven't changed much have they?
@dreggymon2 жыл бұрын
This is so funky because Mick Taylor is playing the Bass. Their best guitarist goes out on his last album playing the funkiest Bass you can imagine. He is something special. Also, this version is sped up -the Japanese copy has it where it is a bit longer and taken down a few steps, so micks voice is deeper on that one. You can tell the difference by the song lengths. And the vocal sound.
@barriehull70762 жыл бұрын
Key ingredients of the song are the rhythm guitar played by Mick Jagger, which features heavy phasing due to the use of the MXR Phase 100 effects pedal, and the highly jazz/funk-oriented bass guitar played by Mick Taylor. Keith Richards uses the wah-wah pedal for his guitar part. Bill Wyman is on synthesiser, Charlie Watts on drums, Billy Preston on clavinet, and Nicky Hopkins on piano. Charlie Jolly Kunjappu is featured on the tabla. The lyrics express frustration over government monitoring and surveillance activity.
@NathanVeenstra2 жыл бұрын
The clavinet definitely adds a whole heap of funkiness to the track.
@aquamarine99911 Жыл бұрын
Mick Jagger was an underrated guitarist. He wrote the riff for "Brown Sugar". And while Wyman was a good bassist, the best Stones' bass lines tended to be played by Mick Taylor or Keith. Even their most iconic bass line -- Miss You - was written by Billy Preston.

I agree this doesn't sound much like Mick Jagger. This was recorded in 1974 & is one of their first attempts to branch out into dance or electronic music. The Rolling Stones are considered the bad boys of rock & roll. I grew up with their early stuff. My favorite era of The Rolling Stones is from the 60's British Invasion. I loved the "Flowers" album. They had a lot of great early hits such as "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Get Off of My Cloud", "Paint It Black", "Ruby Tuesday", "Let's Spend the Night Together", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Honky Tonk Women", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Gimme Shelter", "Tumbling Dice" & "Brown Sugar".
