Well Larry, this video was my first introduction to the EvScope. I didn't know these things even existed. I started researching and I fell in love. I ordered the EvScope Equinox and it just came in today. Of course it's going to be cloudy for the rest of the week but I'm excited to enter this new chapter in my astro-adventure!! Thanks and take care!!

Thanks, Anthony. These scopes seem to be catching on pretty well. You probably saw in your research that the company that makes EvScope allows owners to become part of a network of “citizen scientists” who feed data to SETI. I think I read they have over 5,000 members. Hope you have a great experience with your EvScope! Thanks

I like you am old school. I don't have anything electronic other than red dot finders and laser collimators. Im fact I am trying my hand at setting circles. As for the eclipse I had clouds too!

Always nice to hear from an "old school" astronomer! Please accept my apology for taking so long to respond to your comment. I've taken some time off from the channel but will have a new video out in a day or so (in which I'll explain why I've taken the time off).

I live in southeastern Virginia, a Bortel 7/8 sky. I am also visually handicapped. It would be impossible for me to polar align a scope. I also cannot drive to a dark-sky area. I have a Stellina and I am amazed at what it can capture under light polluted skies. You can also enter an object's co-ordinates and set exposure time up to 20 seconds. So you are not limited to the objects pre-defined in the application. Additionally, if you plug in an USB, Stellina will also save FITS images which you can process yourself (just starting to learn Dep Sky Stacker).BTW, I just discovered your channel today. And my 1st telescope was a 3" Newtonian from Edmund Scientific in the 60s.

@oldgazer72002 жыл бұрын
Skywatcher, Apertura, Celestron, Explore Scientific, and perhaps others also make 20 inch Dobs. All are in the $800-$1000 (US) price range.
@oldgazer72002 жыл бұрын
Pardon me , I meant to say 10 inch Dobs.

exactly one of the things i escape from when doing such things as astronomy.. phones and phone nags and i get to exercise my brain, creative thinking and universal connectedness.. to me scopes like this takes away from the overall whole experience

Post when you feel like it. We will watch when you do I'm mixed on robo stuff too. I'm fairly new but something feels wrong have a computer find stuff for you. It's pure emotions on my part.... And I'm too cheap to buy them hahhaa

Thanks for the comment. I sort of miss the old days with my manual mount Dob. But I’m a retired engineer and some of the new technology is fascinating.

I have to say, the first time I pointed my reflector that I got as a present towards a dark sky was a shock to me. I saw a galaxy. Milky Way, that is. If I got one these as a present - eventually (quite fast) it would start to become boring. Doing something with your own hands makes it all that special. 100% would not recommend as a first telescope. However, now I wouldn`t mind owning one of these. Less time consuming. But I think we have to wait for the prices to drop (just like with computers, LCD tv's & other technologies that eventually become cheaper as they become more and more popular) and technology to improve.

Excellent points! Better for experienced astronomers than beginners. And I am looking forward to the prices coming down (though the current trend for telescopes in general is up - my SCT now costs $400 US more than when I bought it).

Even if u wont post a Vid the whole year i wont unsubscribe.. Patience is key. These Pictures are awesome. The less Professional look makes it even better. Wish i will be able some day to get my head around on a Electronic Rig. Still only on my Dob without Electronic 🥸 but enjoying it and still trying to learn the Sky
@oldgazer72002 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. I don’t have a Dob now but I had one for many years. Some of my best times and memories were the nights I spent out under the stars with that manual Dob.
@landtechnik4k2 жыл бұрын
@@oldgazer7200 yes, think so too. the manual version will be the better choice in the long run as you mentioned in this video. Now waiting for good clear skys since last Fall.. the weather was terrible here in Germany over the Winter Month. Last week i was taking it out for the first time since Months. Still not know all constellations.. looked up.. and everything was turned upside down and scrambled🤣 this is the hardest Part for me. Winter-Spring, im not that familiar compared to Summer-Fall sky.. but that makes it even more interesting. Of course i have some Sky-Atlas and Maps but trying to remember positions of Messier objects and the Starhopping path from my Head when all is turned around 90° is so freaking hard but I like that Challenge aswell 😁
