So the structures are burned to the ground and cars are melted, yet the trees are still there with leaves and the bushes right next to the house are just fine...? I have seen super flammable ceder and gum and eucalyptus trees hanging with leaves intact hanging over multi story mansions that were completely leveled.... That's not normal! Kids plastic playsets next to incenerated homes, blue plastic trash cans sitting brand new looking inside garages that were leveled or next to cars and homes that were incenerated... Plastic usually turns to hot melting flammable goop when exposed to high temperatures! But okay your right everything is completely normal... No water in the fire hydrants? That's because the static energy that causes the crazy, not normal winds is caused by a macro wave energy source that vaporizes H2O in its beam path... That process obviously evaporated the water out of the steel pipes! Tell me how a brush fire burns pipes in the ground or ignites non flammable telephone poles and melts the electric lines and meter box's... I mean, smgdh... The energy concentration is so intense that anything, that is conductive, like metal or H2O, will have a ground fault reaction creating an arc, anything touching that arc would incenerate at extremely high temperatures, think plasma cutter, this is why plastic objects didn't melt, or the "open to the elements" super dry osb of the under construction home right next door didn't catch fire.... The osb was dry and had no H2O to boil or metal to combust... Unlike the steel banded tires of the car parked out in front of the leveled house that was also incenerated... It's the same thing that happens when you put foil in a microwave, but on a larger scale... The trees and foliage don't burn because wood doesn't conduct electricity very well... But DEW you know what does conduct electricity....? Everything that these "wild fires" DEW burn!

There will be NO economical or affordable anything in Palisades and certainly no trailer home parks anymore- and the way they will indirectly justify that is with stricter (aka more expensive) building codes. Low end housing has been wiped off the map and with pretty much nothing left to be grandfathered in, they'll never zone for that again. Urban planners are obsessed with ultra-high density sardine living and reducing urban sprawl wherever they can (except for their own homes, of course). Look for insanely expensive, super dense, very high end condos and apartments to start appearing in a few years time on the EAST side of the PCH, with a few insanely expensive houses for the elites among us (like actors, athletes, business tycoons, congressmen and the occasional former governor or two.

What about all the new houses being built with concrete and other materials that don’t burn . . And increase sculptures and reduce trees.
@puertocool6 күн бұрын
The solution is simple. Total concrete construction, including roof. This not inly is fireproof, windproof, but also lends itself to many styles of construction, modern to traditional. In Puerto Rico this is how we build houses that stand up to potential disasters. Florida, like California is vulnerable to the elements. Still, new ideas are resisted. Lessons hard learned.
@se7endreams5 күн бұрын
While concrete is obviously more durable than wood, it's not fireproof. It's designed for max 4 hr rating. One disadvantage of concrete in California is the seismic effect during an earthquake. The lateral forces developed during a seismic event is a function of the weight. Therefore, the heavier the structure, the harder it will get hit during an earthquake. Not as simple as you may think.
@Tchild25 күн бұрын

This popped up in my feed just as I started watching fire-hardening videos. These developers who have been prioritizing aesthetics over longevity... I'm thinking some of the ones who have been exposed for shoddy new construction builds even without natural disasters... (D.R. Hornton, etc.) Are going to need to be watchdogged. Plus 24 ft ceilings aren't going to be nearly as attractive. And luxe-look companies like Toll Bros have been out there strong in SoCal, not to call them out. Simply prioritizing practicality and safety might help reset some of this market craziness. Most people are just going to want fiber cement siding, windows that don't melt, and frames that can easily be doused for protection. And that just happens to be easier to afford, anyway.
@gridley5 күн бұрын
Meanwhile, a lot of the flat, rundown, decrepit sections of the LA basin seem to be like a cat with 9 lives. Those areas also limit the alternatives for people fleeing from the Palisades or Altadena. Old SoCal contradicts the notion that things were so much better over 60-70 years ago. Development standards that working-class homebuyers in LA dealt with in the 1940s-50's (if not before too) were conspicuously modest.

To be honest. These prices will continue to skyrocket because affordable housing in this country is a thing of the past. That's why there's this housing shortage because they (The Government) don't want affordable housing.

I don't like this "Smart City" that may take place in that legendary area. They're trying to make it look like that TV show "Futurama" lol. But for real , bro did you know that almost the whole Center of California was a huge Lake? I just found out right now through listening in on Joe Rogan podcast. wow.... I just wish California didn't have these wildfires ..... California is such a golden gem state & to me personally Cali is the best state in America ... but with its glorifying beauty comes in an unorthodox fire situation ( in some parts ) ....

California is an amazing state in terms of beauty. In terms of politics it’s bottom 10.

7:15 KZbin just fed me a documentary "Design for Disaster" about the 1962 Bel Air fire. Yup. They could have been describing the Palisades / Eaton fires. Santa Ana Winds. Protracted drought. Tightly packed homes, flammable building and landscaping materials, attic and crawl space vent screens... The hydrants ran dry. The winding roads prevented fire equipment from getting up into the hills. The documentary is a prequel to this week in LA. Except that only 500 homes burned. And that is the difference climate change makes. "They" recommended people rebuild with concrete or adobe, terra cotta tile, metal or cement tile roofs and metal fencing among other "space aged" solutions that we collectively ignored. (inspect 12,000 structures in 14 days? Yeah sure...)

housing mandate may require some multifamily even if it wasn't there before as you indicated they can do that now.

The new homes you show up at Porter Ranch... I hate those things. The person that approved those stupid huge developments is one of the reasons prices are so high.

I wonder if these spikes in rent correspond to a spike in demand. Like, where once you maybe had 20 people per unit asking suddenly you have 100 or more. The question is, in this event, does that justify increasing the price?.. hypothetically. Obviously if no ones asking you bring down your price. If a few are asking you can sell basically as is maybe they'll bid a round or two.. but in situations where you have sooooo much demand, what do you do? Not asking as a pro or against this or that, asking hypothetically as someone interested in the problem. Cheers.

here's an idea, build everything out of the same material chimneys are built of. everything. mf'g chimneys were the only thing standing.

Brick and masonry homes are too dangerous here because of frequent and unpredictable earthquakes. We lost our chimney several times in earthquakes here, the rest of the house is wooden and saved our lives.

The most succesful military operation, 1: Defund the fire department to makes sure trucks not working, 2: No testing the fire hygent, 3: Drained the water resevior , 4: Made sure the mayor was out of town when everthing happened. 5: Fired firefighter for not taking vaccine. 6: Locals said the fire truck took 45 minutes to show up. It is not imcompentent, it is well planned.
