I have been using the B&W continuum for a little over 1500 miles. It was a small learning curve as is any new hitch. We pulled across Oklahoma and I did not even know we had 35mph wind until I stopped for fuel. Very happy with it so far. Tow set up is : 2006 dodge 3500SRW with a grand design momentum 25g. Safe travels

Great video. I run the anderson right now but it's not capable of putting enough weight back on the front with a heavy TT.. plus it's not as easy to hook up as this unit despite what people say. Last the brake material might last a season before needing replaced. This hitch seems like a great new design. Thang for reviewing it!

yeah a few things I noticed that would be nice to have, 1) a rubber strap that latches over the pump handle to make sure it doesn't pop out 2) a way to secure the nut that bleeds the pressure from the pump, its right on the side of the pump where a kid can just unscrew it at a rest stop 3)

Corey...ford says FALR should be 50 percent. Its in some towing guides in little bitty text. (Of course). So half way back to non hitched height on the front tires is what ford says. In all your hitching...what seems best? Im sure you have a number where you find you like it.
@WanderingWeekends
@WanderingWeekends 6 ай бұрын
Its funny. I see different FALR percentage recommendations everywhere I look. Some say 75%. Some 100% (which doesn’t seem correct to me but I’m not an engineer by ANY means). 50% seems like a great place to start. I like having significant tongue weight and my rig riding 1/2 to 1 inch low in the front. This ensures adequate tongue weight and still keeps the trailer load balanced on the axles. It’s a very small adjustment and really can’t be seen unless one measures. It’s been a sweet spot for me.

Oh Lord, all I need is another hitch. I now have three, and I am again tempted by this one. I first got the Weigh Safe, but I quickly found that the weight of the hitch and bars was more than I wanted to deal with.....I'm 72 and looking for an easier life. So then I got the Andersen hitch, but had difficulty with it (nothing big....just more sway than I wanted). Then I bit the bullet and got the Pro-Pride, and it is easy for this old guy to manage ..... except for the weight of the stinger. But now I'm eagerly awaiting your evaluation of this B&W hitch. It will be interesting to see how the sway control stacks up against the others.

You are a great information resource on RVing providing a camper perspective without a sales pitch. Interested in the product because of the technology. I have a 2022 F250 with the 7.3 and just did my first tow with the truck. Only .2MPG difference between my old Suburban with the 5.3 engine. Curious as to what tire pressure you run on your tow vehicle and on your travel trailer as proper tire pressure can cause some towing issues along with proper additional cargo weight distribution in the trailer. Thank yo for this review!
@WanderingWeekends
@WanderingWeekends Жыл бұрын
Appreciate that! Max PSI on the TV tires =80 psi. I run. The front at 65 and the rear at 75. This seems to give me a good ride along with adequate pressure to handle the hitch of the trailer. For cargo distribution you’ll need to make sure a minimum of 10% of your loaded trailer weight is on the ball. I’d cheat towards 15%.

I have this B&W hitch and they don’t have to be in a straight line with each other, although it helps. I did find that if the trailer and truck are on extreme non-level ground w truck much higher than trailer, I had trouble removing the bars from the hitch due to lack of travel space. But that is likely unique to me as I have a center frame support that starts 16.5” behind my jack that prevents the cylinder from swinging far enough back.

Cool operating hitch. Not sure if I care for the complexity of the hydraulic operation or, should the pump lose compression while in tow, that you would lose all the weight distribution and sway control. That could easily put someone in a dangerous situation.

Question for you. How much does it hang down? The pictures on the website make it look low. It looked fine on your truck. I live on an island so ferry boat to get off. Depending on the tide the ramp can be at a nasty angle. I would be a bit worried about this hitch hanging down too far and possibly taking a hit. Other then that, it looks interesting. I will definitely be interested to see what your final thoughts are when you are done testing. On edit, just read a few of the other questions and answers, so it doesn't even hang as low as the bottom of the shank. Any chance you could give a measurement. Thanks.
@WanderingWeekends
@WanderingWeekends Жыл бұрын
I’ll have to get a measurement. Many are asking. When it’s being used it doesn’t seem to be an issue. When it’s disengaged one can pump it all of the way up if needed. I don’t see it being an issue but that is why I spend significant time with them. We will see!

The hitch seems like there would be a lot of torque and pressure at the coupler since the bars are so short. I would also consider adding a safety chain around each cylinder support pin bracket to mitigate cylinder failure while towing.

I like it a lot. That pressure relief valve though is easily accessible. Any joker passing by can open it up. So I guess one would add "check the pressure gauge" to the list of "things to check" before getting into the truck after any pit stop.

My first instinct on this hitch is that it may not work well on lower trailers, such as enclosed cargo trailers like a lot of truck camper owners tow behind their rig, like I do. Most cargo trailers only have a hitch height of about 18-20". Lower trailers would cause this hitch to be too close to the ground.

@deltabravo1257 Жыл бұрын
I’m curious what the measurement is from the top of the hitch (the part the ball mounts to, not the top of the ball) to the lowest point. That will give me an idea of ground clearance with my cargo trailer. Are you part of the HTSAYTC group that KYD created?

So two questions: 1. Since it is beefy, how much extra tongue weight does it add, because that does need to be factored into payload calculations? 2. So far, is it a quiet hitch or does it have the typical groans and pops?
@WanderingWeekends
@WanderingWeekends Жыл бұрын
1. Only the scale can really tell you where your payload stands. Keep in mind the hitch moves weight to the trailer as well. How much weight? You’d need a scale to know exactly. That could be a great vid. 2. Based on its design I expect this hitch to be completely silent.

That looks like a nice Weight Distributing Hitch, but expensive. There are hitches that cost 1/4 of its price. How does it provide sway control? Why have you tried so many hitches? I bought my R-Vision TC21RBH camping trailer in 2009 for about $13,000. The dealer installed an Equalizer hitch on it. The trailer weighs 3345 lbs (UVW) and the truck has a 9,000 lb conventional trailer tow rating. So, the load bars don't need to be very tight for load leveling but I use it for the 4 point sway control. I have used my trailer to go camping about 7 times a year since 2009 and for our summer vacation every year. My trailer does not sway, but I have learned about the large force it puts on the trailer tongue when I go up a sudden incline. I see cases where the trailers frame gets bent from the use of load leveling hitches, is the B & W any better for that? The weight distributing (load leveling) hitches seem to be what is causing the trailers tongue to get bent. If I was to get a heavy trailer, it would probably be a fifth wheel with the weight on the truck ahead of the rear axle. That way you do not need to put a bending force on the trucks hitch and the trailers tongue.

You mention a lot that the ProPride is good but not 2-3 times the price good. Suggestion if you're interested, when you do your ranking of the 10 hitches, maybe do an outright ranking as well as a performance per dollar ranking. I watch a lot of tech channels and that is a (admittedly very subjective) way to try and normalize for price.

Looking forward to you full review. My initial thoughts are that while the hydraulic WD control is pretty cool. It’s great at fine tuning your WD setup and nice that you can do the full setup from one side of the hitch easily. However the hydraulics are also a failure point that more conventional hitches don’t have. And you know it’s going to fail at the worst possible moment. Also it will be Interesting to see what hook up and disconnection is like. As it is the system looks like it might be a bit of a pain point.
