You know, after watching this a second time I’d like to revise my claims.i do believe that this place is truly the most beautiful. Jessica, you are a skillful videographer. Nice photography and even better editor. Nicely done. Matt, you are a stone cold navigator. Navigating thru the minefield of coral heads is no easy task. Also, I’m seeing definite improvement in your drone work. Nicely done guys.

I agree. I just got back from 3 months in the Abacos on my boat and found several places like Double Breasted that make the Abacos a great cruising ground. I was there Dec-Mar and found most of the achorages empty or just 1 or 2 other boats (except Hope Town & Marsh Harbor).
@MJSailing6 жыл бұрын
That is around the time frame we were there as well (Dec-Mid Feb), and once you get out of Marsh Harbour, Hope Town, and Green Turtle, it's very likely that you can have a spot all to yourself. And we loved that!

Great video. You guys can improve your spear fishing if you would dive on deeper coral heads say from 10 to 30 feet. When you guy came off the bank near memory rock you passed over some of the best spear fishing you could ever ask for.
@mattjohnson67166 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. We typically fished around that depth in the Exhumas, but couldn't find easily accessible coral in the Abaco.... really, we just didn't feel like going on the windward side of the islands to fish. Matt

That spot at Double Breasted is gorgeous. I'm trying to mark a chart with stellar spots like that to cruise to. When you came up through that narrowing channel, was Sand Cay on your port? From there, where was that beautiful snorkeling spot? Sorry, don't mean to ask for your secret hideaways... just LUV'd the video and would like to see it up close & personal. Thx!
@MJSailing6 жыл бұрын
No problem Karl, we don't mind sharing. 😉 When we were making that entrance, Sand Cay was on our port side. To get to the spot where we snorkeled, we went through the opening between the long thin strips of rock/coral on the NE side and it was probably about 300 feet in.

What You'll Need for home made pita bread: 1 (1/4-ounce) package of yeast, or quick-rising yeast 1/2 cup warm water 1 teaspoon granulated sugar 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/4 teaspoons salt 1 cup lukewarm water How to Make It Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of warm water. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Let sit for 10 to15 minutes until water is frothy. Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a small depression in the middle of the flour and pour yeast-water mixture into it. Slowly add 1 cup of warm water, and stir with wooden spoon or rubber spatula until elastic. Place dough on floured surface and knead for 10 to 15 minutes. When the dough is no longer sticky and is smooth and elastic, it has been successfully kneaded. Coat a large bowl with vegetable oil and place dough into the bowl. Turn dough upside down so all of the dough is coated. Allow to sit in a warm place for about 3 hours, or until it has doubled in size. Once doubled, roll out in a rope, and pinch off 10 to 12 small pieces. Place balls on floured surface. Let sit covered for 10 minutes. Heat oven to 500 F and make sure rack is at the very bottom of the oven. Be sure to also heat your baking sheet. Roll out each ball of dough with a rolling pin into circles. Each should be about 5 to 6 inches across and 1/4-inch thick. Bake each circle for 4 minutes until the bread puffs up. Turn over and bake for 2 more minutes. Remove each pita with a spatula from the baking sheet and place on a wire rack. While still warm, take a spatula and gently push down on each puff. When they are thoroughly cool, place in storage bags. Storing Pita Bread Pita bread can be stored for up to 1 week in a pantry or bread box, and up to 1 month in the freezer. Be sure to use freezer bags when storing in the freezer.

Matt, I'm wondering what your favorite fish is to eat that you catch from spearfishing? Why? and best way to cook? Thanks!
@mattjohnson67166 жыл бұрын
I love the non-fishy taste of the Lionfish. Since they are an invasive species to the Bahamas and hurt the native population of fish, I feel much better about killing them. While I love anything deep fried, Lionfish cooked with a light oil and lemon is amazing. Matt

As always, your drone shots are amazing. Do you change the camera settings during the flight to optimize the picture? Do you perform several flights to get the best views or alter the drone's course once you see what the first flight brings? When you bring it ashore do you waterproof the bag at all? I know, a lot of drone questions but you guys get amazing shots that make me want to sail there and do the same thing! Thanks for the update and video guys. I look forward to your uploads each week!
@mattjohnson67166 жыл бұрын
It's 100% the drone and no real skill on our part. Jess does a little post processing, but everything else is done automatically. We do look at the scene after it is shot and do another flight if we want to come at something from a different angle, height or time of day. We typically carry it in just a standard dry bag without padding or anything. It is extremely well built. Matt

Nice photo shoot video from the drone! Thank you. You think no power boats express cruisers because it is too far round trip from a marina for fuel? or maybe too much of a risk of boat hull bottom damage, from accidently hitting coral?
@mattjohnson67166 жыл бұрын
We saw two power boats at that anchorage over a few day period (which is pretty rare). It is easy access from Florida, has fuel stops just West and a few miles further along the chain, and isn't too rolly..... perfect area for a power cruiser. Matt

Just curious. It is unusual for cats to be comfortable in new, unknown environments, but yours seems to have no problem at all. Is that a gift of your cat's personality, or is there some training involved? I've had five cats and all of them were very different, but I have heard stories similar to what I see with your cat, and none of mine were so inclined. Anyway that's great.

@MJSailing6 жыл бұрын
Yes, we knew this video was going to have areas of poor sound. Most of the time we are using our Panasonic Lumix with a Shure VPF microphone, but when we were driving all over in the dinghy I didn't want to take the chance of splashing our good camera, and grabbed out our old camcorder. We used to use it as our main camera, so I figured the sound was fine, but some setting must have been off and we didn't notice until after we'd already left and couldn't re-shoot. A total bummer, but we shouldn't be having that issue in future videos. 😕

So you searched all over the place and didn't find much fish which was sad, then you find some and go hunting them....don't you think it is a bit hypocritical of you? If there aren't many spots left with fish then leave them alone to breed and spread out, don't snack on them.
@billnict16 жыл бұрын
I don't; hypocritical would be fishing just for sport and killing fish that you can't eat...
@smeggy79796 жыл бұрын
So it is ok to kill the last few fish, as long as you enjoy them on the barbeque?
@SailingTranquilityBay6 жыл бұрын
We'd have to agree with you Smeggy. Unfortunately a lot of people can't think of anything else to do on the reef -- other than kill it. We're guilty ourselves, but when we put it together that the oceans really are quickly being depleted, it became clear to us that our own consumption was no different than what the industrial fishing operations are doing. So we leave the fish alone now.
@rw50926 жыл бұрын
The Abacos is loaded with fish they were not in the right spots
@SailingTranquilityBay6 жыл бұрын
r w, that's the idea that a lot of people have. I guess it all depends on what your idea of "loaded" is. Not so long ago, the Bahamas had monk seals. Now they're extinct.
