I don't think we should give up on trying to give advice to people. Just because some may respond negatively, it's a defeatist attitude to just not even try at all. If someone throws a fit over it? Oh well. If they're going to double down and actively sabotage the group, either vote kick them or leave. This problem won't go away if everyone just grins and bears it all the time. Pick your battles though, of course. I don't typically speak up unless it's noticeably detrimental to the group.. which honestly doesn't happen that often.

Just because some people have the attitude of “dont tell me what to do,” doesnt mean you shouldn’t call them out. I feel like people with those “habits” should be challenged cause it’s toxic behavior. I’ve learned a lot of things from other people giving me advice on things I didn’t know. If advice is being given in a respectful way (not passive aggressively) then it’s fine. I have almost 20,000 hours on my account. You couldn't pay me to type in chat. Not anything, not a single word. I refuse to ever type literally anything into chat. I can not risk losing my account because some asshole reported me for saying "hello" in a dungeon. If they wanted people talking then they wouldn't ban people for being offensive, because literally anything you say is offensive to someone, so to be safe you have to just not talk ever.

Under the Key Points of the Prohibited Activities support article, an example they even give is "I don't want to heal because there is a player I don't like in the group." which the article considers giving advantage to the enemy. WHM in the post got to that point and provided digital proof of this by saying "no more heals for you then". Before it gets to that point, a Vote Kick should be attempted Yes this is level 50, yes dungeons are so easy you can clear them blindfolded, yes the OP is probably overreacting a bit, but the behavior the WHM gave in this post shouldn't be acceptable. This is a team game 21:29 Yes, it's called Hilda. It's meant to be a FFXIV version of Hekili from WoW, but it's not as robust and can't always make the correct decisions based on how limited it seems to be

If they said "Ok, no more heals for you then" and you do end up dying, you can absolutely report them. Nobody should be coddling people like that at this point. If you defend this shit attitude, you're doing everyone a disservice. This is honestly not just annoying, it is one of the biggest problems this game has, and it goes all the way into affecting even the game's design and explains why the team is so scared to add any personal responsibility or difficulty, and why things have only gotten more and more watered down all the time. It's the game's fault. The main quest does nothing to push players to use their kits to get through the fights. In good games, the devs will give players challenges that force them to use their abilities as they get them to overcome the challenges. FFXIV is terrified of letting players fail during the story, so there's very little incentive to actually learn what your class does before endgame. Even then, a person has to actively seek out the endgame challenges and most people won't. They'll participate in the casual grind or park in Limsa to ERP.

I did a roulette with a friend a little while back. She was on warrior, I was summoner. We got dead ends, and got to the first boss with basically no problems. During the first boss, the healer and the other dps got hit buy the aoe miasma thing, and they both died to the debuff. After raising the healer, I quickly typed "gotta cleanse the debuff." Could I have typed that in a more polite way? Maybe, I guess, but it was mid combat, and I was just making sure they knew the mechanic. The other dps typed "we know the fight" as they were bring raised. So sure enough, next time the mechanic happened, they both died again. My swiftcast was still on cooldown, so I just kept doing my rotation until it came up, because there was no point in hard casting a raise. A few seconds before it was ready, the healer typed "Are you going to revive me? What are you doing?" They had been dead for maybe 10 seconds at that point. I just typed "sc" in chat, because I was still fighting the boss, and they went on to spam "??????" of different lengths in the chat. At that point, I was annoyed, so I didn't raise them. I raised the other dps, and we ended up killing the boss. After that we went on to the portal and moved on. The healer typed "STILL NO RAISE???" in chat, and i just said "release". They said "No." and we went on and did the next couple pulls without them. The other dps was trying to run ahead and pull more mobs the whole time, but there's really only 1 double pull you can do at that point in the dungeon, so it didn't matter. We got to the 2nd boss, and were waiting for the healer by the entrance. My friend asked "are you coming?" because at that point the healer still was just sitting there. They didn't say anything, but the other dps ran to pull the boss, so we ran out of the arena, and they died alone. After that, we tried to vote kick the healer, but it failed, because they were clearly also a duo. We were in discord and talked about just leaving, but we decided to see if we could duo the rest of the dungeon. Turns out we could, although it took forever because we ended up having to single pull the packs just to play it safe, because we didn't want to validate the other two's nonsense by dying. So in the end, they never helped, and just sat there and got a "free" dungeon, which ended up taking about a half hour total. In my experience, the FF14 community isn't really any less toxic than the WoW community. They're just toxic in a different way, because they violently resist what is often perfectly reasonable criticism or advice, because the awkward policy for the game protects those mentalities, and community largely condones it.

Haha, thanks for the story I liked that! 😂 Done that twice in all the time I played ffxiv, finishing a dungeon as a duo cause someone decided to be annoying, but I think WoW community is worse just cause these kinds of people are more abundant 😅 At least in my not inconsiderable experience lvling in dungeons in both games. In WoW you can't even escape them in fairly high-lvl dungeons either since Blizzard decided to give every noob good gear for doing solo content, and then they join content they're not ready for and just mess up everything while being whiny bitches... You can kind of avoid them though, just don't invite low-rated druids or anyone playing the Dracthyr race, and don't invite russians, that way you avoid most of the weirdo furries that usually act this way, and also the russians! 😊

well when i was a sprout white mage, i remember a tank (after seeing me spaming cure2) telling me that using holy would stun all enemies and he wouldn't be getting a lot of damage. it didn't make sense to me because.... "i'm a healer and there are a lot of mobs hitting you, so i should spam my strongest healing skill", but after trying it, it was a game changing. i don't remember his name but i do remember that he was very very polite and think "why is he being so polite?", i understand it now xD

The behaviour only persists, because the game indulges them in the behaviour. If you experience bad healers who don't wanna heal you, keep a stockpile of HQ healing potions for roulette. I did a min item level run in Ampador keep with friends, and I spent most of my time trying to keep the tank alive during pulls - barely any damage spells thrown out - and we cleared the run in sub-19 minutes, with an item level of i45 instead of i110.

This reminds me of one of my biggest complaints/criticisms about FFXIV. This game has turned "fun" into a chore. Think of it like this. If OP was having fun. Actually in the duty because they enjoyed it. They wouldn't have given two thoughts about what other people are doing. It's like playing your favorite single-player game. You're not worried about meta, or speed running. You're just enjoying the bare mechanics of the game itself. You're enjoying the game! Or like when you watch a great movie or read a good book. You're not racing to read faster than others. You're not even comparing yourself to other people. You're just lost in your own bubble of personal enjoyment. And that's what games SHOULD BE! But FFXIV has turned duties into a chore. People like OP aren't there because they actively enjoy running duties. He's just there to speed run it and collect tomestones at the end. It's like reading a book to get a gold star from your teacher as opposed to actually reading a book because you enjoy it. And that's why it's my biggest problem with FFXIV, because it pushes those two groups of people together. You get people taking their time and enjoying the content. And then you get the speed demons who just want to rush through their chores and get annoyed when someone being slow makes the chores take longer! ---------- And it's not just FFXIV, a lot of MMOs have turned exploration and 'playing the game' and turned it into a chore. People aren't running content because they enjoy the content. They're only doing the content because they want the carrot at the end of the stick. If you were to ask those chore people if they could hit a button and recieve the reward -- they would. And if you asked them "would you run this content if there wasn't a reward?" They would say no! Like reading a book. Would you read a book without a reward. Or do you resent reading a book because you felt forced to, because it was the only way to get a reward? ------------ I've been playing a lot of single player games, because I want to play something I enjoy. Not waste time on time-gates and nonsense grinds. Grinds were suppose to be a reward for replayability of an enjoyable experience. Not turn boring shit into a treadmill.

The rule of the thumb is basically: If someone sucks but is still doable just shut up, endure and try to finish as fast as possible then leave, you wont be seeing that person ever again most probably. If the person is so bad that is actually doing worse than having 1 less player just votekick their ass, most people will acept if a person not only is not pulling their weight but also making the run more difficult for the rest compared to just doing it with 1 less player

Right, and if you /blist them too you should never see them again ever. I've spedrun lvlng WHMs in the past and I have to at least get Cure 2 and Regen. If you only care about GC rank, Holy will become painfully obvious at the Vale. I went in to Quarn one time on accident w/o cure 2 and regen unlocked and hated life the whole time. Nobody died, but I could do practically no DPS which just made the pain last that much longer, lol.

I had a Praetorium run where the white mage never healed me. I never said anything but the entire dungeon they would only cast regen on everyone but me and would only aoe heal when i was away from the team. I messed up on the gaius fight early and spent the entire fight dead cause they wouldnt rez me. The two others in the party brought it up and the white mage just stayed silent. Idk what i did to that person or if my report amounted to anything but yeah.... not fun.

Had a tank in Dzemael who did not pull the first boss into the crystals. I explained the mechanic very nicely multiple times and used sound effects to get his attention. In my personal experience- i basically feel like im playing league of legends. Everyone ive met have been very upfront to me and very just directly toxic and negative. Ive seen but have never personally been affected by the toxic positivity- people just kick me and false report me and cuss me out tell me to off myself etc. Happened during my first playthrough of honey b lovelys fight. FIRST time completely blind, and after one wipe, I got kicked for not knowing the mechanics despite me saying first time. We wiped because i didnt lb3 as a healer, even though i was charmed and bleeding out. I couldnt have cast lb3 even if i wanted to, but they clearly thought they were right. I also dont think ive ever had anyone give me advice, just basically yell at me and call me stupid and other things. Wishing theyd fix the reporting system already so i could easily report someone in seconds of them being toxic in any way.

(and the healer following me to keep me healthy while leaving those other 2 idiots behind, was actually quite funny, even the healer told the tank to just pull instead of being this toxic shit) the dancer then pulled dance partner of me and put it on the tank, I blacklisted both idiots (both mentors, not too shocking though, proudly displaying their burger king crowns) and moved on. @@ericg3002 i'll gladly be the "toxic" person if it means my team isn't going to be wasted. if you're not "comfortable" doing something, then go into the trust system/duty support system they specifically made for that till you're comfortable pressing your buttons. but I believe you missed the part where the tank just refused to pull the mobs I pulled, that's fighting toxicity with toxicity in a sense. (also that even if he pulled first on a boss, he would disable his stance quickly and stops attacking so that I pull agro, the healer kept me alive and was a chad healer imo)

Healing is such an important role in early level dungeons that I tend to queue roulettes as healer just to ensure we don't get a bad one. Don't care if they're not dpsing, I can tolerate slightly longer fights, but if they're not healing, or dying to boss mechanics (which usually results in them not healing), then I won't be having a good time. I keep a variety of the potions in inventory, but often that doesn't matter if the healer goes down and the rest of the party soon follows. Just means I'm the last one standing, for all the good that is. Tanks not using tank stance sucks balls too. Get the feeling Zepla either plays with good players, or doesn't roulette much tbh. There's plenty of instances where the average group needs a healer. And most tanks don't get self-healing till 60ish. End of the day, if you can't handle it, just leave.

Had a Tank recently who insisted on turning Tank Stance off repeatedly in a DT levelling dungeon on roulette with a healer doing their first run. The other DPS and me stayed for the healer but after dying to aggroed groups of mobs repeatedly we did start asking him politley to just leave Tank Stance on which he completely ignored. Finally completed it but took 45 minutes instead on 10-15. My annoyance levels were peaking after the 30 minute mark....

One time i was a tank in a dungeon roulette, and the healer (WHM) was RIPPING into the two poor melee dps when they asked of them the same thing: use a couple of attack spells here and keep their one dot up. Idk if what I did next is reportable or not, but as soon as we reached the next boss in the dungeon I aimed the tankbuster and nuked the healer with it early on just so they could watch us complete the fight without them and realize that they’re not as needed as they think they are, and that they shouldn’t act all prissy when others ask the bare minimum. Ofc the WHM threw a hissy fit and left after a couple more trash mobs, but we finished the dungeon anyway.

Oh there are SOO many things you can do to correct the behavior of a bad actor healer or someone who doesn't quite understand, 1. Become a Trust NPC and use not a one AoE (This tends to work better if the DPS are colluding as well) 2. Standing in ALL of the ick (See above) 3.Overuse of mitigation which then puts the healer in the hotbox Most bad actors do not have the patience for this kind of thing and typically will leave, a bad healer will start asking questions and you can work from there. Honestly this particular scenario was just fuel to a fire at that point and required a group effort to stop it.

I'd personally just pull less and continue making progress while showing I can properly play my job, because all of those options you just listed would make you appear incompetent to the DPS if they happen to be watching the both of you to figure out who the main problem is. Then potentially the healer could just point at you as the bad player, and the DPS could agree that you should be kicked. Being an example is better than being petty

I'm going to apologize, because most people will communicate first and only use other methods when they can't reach an accord. As a rule of thumb people being rude typically aren't willing to concede a point. Here's the thing that many of there's would-be mentor types need to understand: the ones underperforming like this don't want to get better. They could have Googled even the basics of their job, but they didn't. They DEFINITELY don't want to learn it from a stranger mid-dungeon, where they might genuinely already feel like they're doing their best, or they might be going about things as lazily as possible. Regardless of which it is, they most likely are at capacity for what they're able to or willing to offer the game at that point in time. Asking more of them makes you antagonistic in their eyes. Why should they do more just because you, a stranger, thinks they should?

As a healer, I always appreciate tanks who barely need me. It means you know what you’re doing, I don’t have to babysit you, and I can focus more on dps and mechanics. Not that I don’t want to heal. But having to spend every button press on high cost healing is not fun. Especially when I gotta watch many health bars, mechanics, and slide cast. If I can get 2 or 3 attacks in between each heal, I like that. Less stressful.

I remember back during EW, I got queued into the last 6.0 MSQ trial (not mentioning the name since it´s a spoiler) as a WHM. I did my best to make the group survive since the other healer was doing it for the first time.. And of course both tanks had to be scumbags who didn´t put on a stance, brought TBs into the group on multiple occasions etc., making us wipe 5x on purpose. We couldn´t even kick them out because they kept pulling the boss. We had to leave the duty and report them. That is the most scummy behaviour besides getting rescued by healers (not your friends might I add) into your death.

This week i had a toxic tank in my group, was queuing up for leveling roulette, it took a while to fill up the pop, most likely dps was waiting so long they fell asleep or something, didn't think much about it, it happens. When we spawned inside the dungeon, i noticed the tank wouldn't move, at all, we waited for 10 minutes, maybe the tank desynced or something. then suddenly talked smack in chat saying that he had to wait to long for his liking for someone to click the ready button, even after the other dps said she was in a cutscene. If there was any feedback from GMs that consequences were dished out for this type of behavior, it would probably happen a lot less. Problem is you get treated like this in DF, report, and then the GM says "we can't tell you what happens next." After that there's a good chance nothing bad happens to that person and you never feel any sense of justice or that things were made right. Personally over the last few years that has pushed me farther and farther away from the DF and I exclusively avoid roulettes and choose alternate content to cap or only run dungeons in pre mades

I find that it's a mixed bag. Sometimes I give advice and I'm thanked, sometimes I'm ignored, sometimes stuff like this happens. The bad experiences tend to be more bad than the good are good, so I tend to be very careful about when I try to help. Generally, though, I feel like asking if the person is open to advice before giving it tends to lead to more favorable outcomes more of the time. The game just has a problem with casual elitists. People who are allergic to putting in any thought or effort and think everyone else needs to carry them. I had one situation in dung where some tank offered sage advice and sage obviously said no and as a DPS, I said I would love to know. Sage was annoyed of course and didn't heal at all and we kicked him xd

I once forgot to update a gear set and swapped to healer before doing a duty roulette and my party was very forgiving about the fact it was a sub30 gear set with no job stone. I was confused why some of my abilities disappeared but I was gonna climb that healing mountain!

When it comes for the dungeons - lvl 50-60 i have zero expectations - lvl 70 i watch out for every job that is unlocked at lvl 60 and above, also scholar beginners if they leveled summoner first - and from lvl 80 to 100 i expect a lvl of competency and try to give tips

Not really. Especially as a paladin you have enough mits. Just don't do wall to wall. I've even done it with me as a bard and a monk tanking while an obvious tank + healer couple were doing... something somewhere. Monk and I commended each other in the end and laughed "nice 2 man". Just gotta be more patient.

To be fair to the healer, when my girlfriend asked me to watch her play shortly after starting, she only used heal buttons. She used her aoes but no damage buttons. I gently let her know she should be doing dps, and she replied, "But I'm a healer, I need to heal." I gently explained how the game worked and ran a few dungeons with her as warrior so she wouldn't need to heal me and let her learn how to do dps. Now she's a good healer.

Bonus damage buttons! OGCDs nuts! I believe FFXIV and Warframe have this in common. Content in the beginning is SO easy, that there is absolutely no reason to learn to play the game. WHM should be balanced in a way that if you only use Cure 1 at this point in the game you will just not heal enough ever. Balancing needs to teach players. It doesn't need to be hard, but it should be obvious you do something wrong. AST for example will not run out of mana if they don't cast cards, but they will in higher levels. But it should always be the case so people learn to play properly. If you don't, you'll teach people not how to play, so they will refuse later to change as it has worked for them just fine. Love the system32 ref. xD

If they're a bad player, chances are they're also sensitive babies who perceives all criticism as toxicity. On the rare occasions I feel like the first pull took too damn long to clear, I immediately nope the fuck out without saying a thing.

yeah i think this level has a confluence of factors 1) Sprouts who genuinely are newbies and dunno 2) Sprouts who think they are gods and very confidently wrong 3) Undergearing. A lot of new players seem to use gear >10 levels lower than sync and have broken gear. This is especially a problem for tanks. 4) Difficulty spike. From dzemael darkhold onwards there is an obvious change in difficulty. This is a particularly hated dungeon of mine because of various mechanics, and the way the mobs are set, can lead to heaps of memes. This is for me the singular one I've had the most problems with playing as tank or healer

1:09 reminds me why avoid ACT etc in random content is good for your focus, after i had a group where two dps does _together_ half the damage as me as Darkknight i know its better just ignore and hope you have never people like that in content with an actual enrage

a run can be full of chaotic shit but if a healer manages to use esuna then everything doesn't matter. that healer is the best healer ever.
