In today's Tech Thursday brought to you by EPIC BMX (@_epicbmx) Phu Vu, the question is brought up; Is This The Most Futuristic BMX Stem?
the Odyssey BMX Elementary stem was and is one of the most technologically advanced BMX parts fro the ingenuity to the engineering. These types of piston stems nearly truly caught on as hard as we thought, but they might be making a comeback soon!

Why the FUCK is a mid bottom bracket 19mm & 22mm can yall explain please
@AlfredoMancuso
@AlfredoMancuso 3 жыл бұрын
The mid bottom bracket explains the diameter of the outer part of the bearing. The inner diameter or the bearing, where the spindle goes can either be a 19mm, 22mm or 24mm

I mean, my Profile cranks are from like 1998 or so, and I'm the 3rd owner, and I've been over 200lbs for most of their life on my bikes since 03. I've bent plenty of pedals, but never the cranks or spindles. 🤷🏻‍♂️

bigger diameter spindles are usually hollowed out for weight reduction... that's it.

I had the V2 for years, ppl always told me the bars would slip but it only happened one time on a big flat drop. You could have a wedge system that only applies to tightening the bars with one Allen head & have 2 traditional style bolts for the steerer tube.

You forgot about Odyssey Lincoln stem. Similar to the Tomahawk with the same fork wedge, but only two bar bolts because the front was a hinged. I still got one on an old bike actually. Very cool, never had a single problem with that one. Miss the knee friendliness!

I had a few of these and so did my homies. Even warranted a couple. I loved them! Even saving a gold one for a 22" build actually along with a gold MDS. Anyways, it was like a absolute guarantee what every bar you decided to wedge the elementary stem to was going to be ovalized forever after... If you didn't tighten it that tight, they would slip, so you basically had no choice.

I had this stem for years. It was ok but hard to adjust the head tube tension because it always added a little more tension to the bearings once it got tightened fully. I also prefer classic design for travel. You can leave bars or fork attached while the other was taken off. In addition I think the design requires more material in production. A larger piece of aluminum plus the inner parts from additional part.

MacNeil had a top load version of this style stem that was on Jay Mirons bike on a bmx sports school video around 2008. Guess it was a prototype that never went into production. The Elementary Stem parts had to be greased and bolt had to be torqued down to a certain psi. Every one was trying to create a knee friendly and light weight stem.

The design of the revolutionary elementary design came from a speaker design using 4 full range speakers backed to a metal block in the middle of the 4 of them in a cross configuration magnets facing in to the middle. two of the speakers facing front and back vented in to the room and two vented into the speaker box as the front and back speakers went out the top and bottom speaker went in meaning there was no boxy sound and as all the speakers were mounted to each other it ment no matter how loud they played the speaker drive units would not vibrate as they canceled each opposing speakers vibration this was being drawn on a piece of paper that was also being used to design bmx stems then the penny dropped and it was realised that the speaker design would make a good wedge clamp that
