It's a big question and possibly it is unanswerable but could this be the most modular board ever created?
Whether it is or whether it isn't I'm delighted with how it looks and I've really enjoyed the games I've been able to have on it so far.
In this video I'll be talking you through all the different tile types, explaining how each one lends itself to the modular system before going through a bunch of different board setups so you can see for yourself just how much variety there is.
If you want to support this channel and the hard work that I put into it then please buy products from amazon after following this link below.
Yep, that's right - the link is to show you where I get my foam from but anything you buy from Amazon on that visit will give me a tiny affiliate payment - but they all add up.
The EXACT XPS foam that I use:
10mm - amzn.to/4eXuX2w
20mm - amzn.to/43ulY3p
30mm - amzn.to/4cGgXsE
Push Pins for the Railings:
amzn.to/3XaKOUE
Proxxon Hot Wire Cutter - amzn.to/4ajgKug
Craft Knives - A large and small snapaway blade and 20 replacement blades - absolute bargain and a great product - amzn.to/3Vr53wG
Large Cutting Mat: amzn.to/4anZ0xm
Other products used in the project.
UV Resin: amzn.to/3VLbwD4
UV Torch: amzn.to/4akSiIT
Basic Resin: amzn.to/4al1FbB
Grey Stone Flock - amzn.to/3TY4c5t
Glue Gun: amzn.to/43unJ0v
Look forward to sharing more details and photos as they become apparent - like I say in the video - new ideas are evolving all the time.

Great design. Modularity on top of modularity. I'm not a skirmish gamer, but this is really really good and offers lots of options to reuse the same board in different ways. I could see someone doing something similar with open ground and woods, maybe with a ruin here or there, cemetery etc. Well done!

Great looking Board. I love the concept of nested modularity. Modular tiles with modular spots within with free standing elements on top. I usually prefer free standing modular elements to fixed tiles, but your concept offers so much flexibility.

extremely impressive board! the idea of making interchangeable areas within tiles is really neat. Curious how you would go about doing something like this in a 40k sci-fi setting?
@GoodEnoughScenery
@GoodEnoughScenery 4 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for the compliment! In terms of a 40k board it depends on the setting and how much you care about seeing the joins between boards. Natural boards like grassland, desert or a rocky/lava could all work but you'd see the joins. You would get a way with it a lot more in an urban/imperium setting where straight lines will occur more naturally, you can check out my other modular boards to get a better idea of my approach

This is hugely impressive. You must have put many hours into designing this stuff even before beginning to build. I don't know what else you've done already as I'd never heard of your channel before, but have you considered a big modular structure? Something for games that benefit from verticality, like Necromunda/Mordheim etc. A multi-levelled industrial facility or a massive cathedral type thing, with lots of modular layers and/or rooms for instance. Just a thought. Very enjoyable video in any case.
@GoodEnoughScenery
@GoodEnoughScenery 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Honestly it comes to the design aside from the basic plan I do make a huge amount of it up as I go along. I play Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game more than anything else and whilst verticality does come into it a bit it isn't enough to devote a project to and I don't have the storage space to make stuff I'm not going to use. I'm open to making something like that for sure, would just need a reason to which at this stage is like to be someone paying me to make them one!
@Solitary_Scribe55
@Solitary_Scribe55 4 ай бұрын
@@GoodEnoughScenery Thanks for replying. I just wondered if you'd ever thought about trying something that crazy. I know what you mean about storage. I'd love to get into Mordheim, but I just don't have space for the substantial terrain needed to bring that game to life. I already have so much industrial sci-fi terrain I'm basically stuck with games for that setting.

@@GoodEnoughScenery I used to play LOTR back in the day, school/college age, but lost interest over time. Right now I'm working on a Kill Team/Inq28/Necromunda hybrid system using the 2018 KT rulebook as a foundation. I'm only into skirmish scale games and I much prefer narrative driven stuff, so in this competitive-centric era I'm relying on my own head cannon and creativity. GW's meta obsession has pushed me away from their current output. Having said that I hope you enjoy your foray into 40K. It's a great setting however you prefer to play. I'll defo sub and keep an eye on your projects.👍
@GoodEnoughScenery
@GoodEnoughScenery 4 ай бұрын
@@Solitary_Scribe55 I'd only play LotR/battle companies and necromunda if I could find regular games, this shouldn't be a problem with 40k and the models are much better quality so far. Currently unsure on the next project, watch this space....

It looks really cool. TBH however beyond rigidity I do not see the advantage of all of the 10x10 slots or the riser. Wouldn't you have gotten more modularity having the entire thing flat, still custom foam, and be able to place the buildings and structures wherever you wanted. If you weighted the parts down too they will shift less tho not as secure as the ones in the video. That would forgo the sunken details. A compromise would be have the riser detachable with more of the 10x10 on the board it was on. Aesthetics are better on that structure tho.
@GoodEnoughScenery
@GoodEnoughScenery 3 ай бұрын
What you've said is basically the entire argument between a modular boards and just making scatter terrain. I don't think you're wrong at all but it is all about people's priorities. My plan with this board was to create a great looking board that allowed me to play tight skirmish battles in a city environment whilst also being and to have a board that opens up to larger battles too. Rigidity is really important, you can weigh down things sure but someone will always come in with the Godzilla hands and smack them out of place. With what you're suggesting you basically end up making a very long winded battlemat which is fine but not what I wanted for my board 😊
