Such a hard hill Murray I went into climb the 2 mountains with a severe head wind going in. I dropped my bike as I could walk faster at Geldie and was so looking forward to turning toward Sgarsoch as the wind would be on my back for the rest of the trip. One of the most arduous outings I had in the wilds. Great footage once again it was 96 when I went in so stirring up the memory once again. Look forward to your next trip.

Did these hills from the Tarf Hotel in April 1986 I think. Minus 6C at night but was full of Yorkshiremen so bivvied on an area of flat concrete outside. Blue skies and once Sun got up it did get to 20C so a very pleasant day and still few snow fields high up. Back at the bothy spotted a lizard coming out of a dyke to soak up the Sun, probably the first rays for many months, I somehow caught a big bluebottle for it and it was soon snapped up off the end of my finger. Probably the first ever lizard to get breakfast served at the Tarf Hotel. You didn't mention that An Sgarsoch is on the the watershed between the Dee and Tay, and Carn an Fhidhlier is the watershed peak between all three rivers, the Spey, Dee and Tay, and the historic boundary between Invernessshire, Aberdeenshire and Perthshire.

The last ti,e I did this walk was in the winter time and it was dark cycling in and was getting dark by the time I got back but the snow on the tops made it more remote and wild but in terms of wilderness there isn't that vulnerability knowing one slip or mistake can be fatal Like in North America where endless people never get found, the bike is a must for this walk especially with limited day light. Hi Murray another fine video bringing back memories of long days out. An interesting side note to the hill has to do with the horse and cattle markets that were once held on the summit plateau, known as Feill Sgarsaich. It defies modern comprehension as to why such markets were held at such remote and elevated locations until we remember that this area was much more heavily populated. By the way, out of curiosity, what camera and lens are you using for stills. Looks like one of the Sony A7…

You are right, there is a circular mtb route (inner Cairngorms loop - a great but demanding day out) that uses that stretch down to Glen Feshie. Glen Feshie itself is a joy to ride but the section past Geldie lodge to get to it always feels a right slog and by that point you are well past caring about wet feet. To be honest, I was past that point before crossing the Fords of Avon.

Some Scottish hills certainly give the illusion of remoteness, though with the advancement of things like SOS inreach devices, a plethora of online mapping guides and the almost certain guarantee of bumping into folk these days - the feel of remoteness is definitely getting harder too come by. However I am an old fart who misses the days void of mobile phones and social media (obviously not all social media 😂) - I do miss the feeling I got 20+ years ago when an adventure into certain parts of the highlands meant almost certain isolation and a complete break from people 😂
