I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Bank fisherman here. I rediscovered the wobble head two summers ago. Fishing these again has been such fun. I’m normally throwing a 1/2 oz and most any plastic will do but I’ve settled on the Xzone 4.25” Adrenaline craw. I may try a speed worm although I really like those with a pegged 3/16 oz bullet weight. I think of the wobble head as my all terrain crankbait - wood, rock, grass, whatever. Great video. Thanks.

I like to bounce them down steep ledges. Usually using a tube body with craw arms. I put a small piece of foam on the hook inside the body to get it to stand up and swing around with little twitches of the rod.

🍺Thanks Matt. I have been fishing the Picasso Tungsten wobble heads even before you were sponsored by them👍. They work very well and are very versatile as you mention. I personally go to them during the summer when I’m fishing with large worms deep. They certainly cast a mile and you can cover lots of deep water fast🤠.

You’ll never fit a 2.8 or even a 3.3 keitech on that swing head without switching to a 1/0-maybe 2/0 wide gap hook. What I have really good luck with on swing heads which I throw a lot for both river smallmouth and small lake-big lake largemouth is a googan bandito bug, a coffee tube -there’s nothing like a coffee tube slithering around the bottom and up and over rocks - the DOLIVE beaver , and a big worm that’s bouyant..I like the 6th sense dive worm in 7” on this jig it’s pretty much my go to worm for this style bait.

During the summer last year I put a keitech on a 1/2 oz one and used that a lot. Just a slow trodge back to the bank. Worked really well. In the fall I switched up to a 1/4 oz and put a fluke on it and hopped it back to shore fairly quickly and that worked well too. Definitely an underrated setup.

I've been 'stroking' a hard head jig for years. I use a (Perfection or Big Texan) Pit Boss, almost exclusively, on the 11/16oz size and work it in high, fast hops, lifting it 3 or 4 feet off the bottom at a time. It elicits some vicious strikes in the early spring.

Hey Matt, great video! I’m a long time believer in the swing head jigs. I remember when this was DL jig for Tommy Biffle. I’m sure you remember when he won at LaCrosse with it and the biffle bug. I’ve been “hooked” on the swing head for years now. I have a few custom variations that I think you might appreciate - skirted, spy, chatter and football etc. on a 3/0-5/0 swim hook. Since you mentioned changing hooks, I think you would really appreciate the convenience my jigs offer. They aren’t tungsten, but most are designed to be swim jigs. If it sounds like something you might be interested in, I’d be glad to send you a few to try. On your suggestion, I recently bought some hover jigs. Looking forward to trying them out this spring. I appreciate your channel and it’s become favorite. Keep up the good work. Oh, and I love your tackle wall too!!!

Would pinching a large split shot on your leader near the hook do the same (or at least very similar)? ...Or pegging a tungsten bullet weight (between the hook and weight) 1/4 inch away from your hook?

I'm surprised the "cheburashka" heads or simply "link heads" seemingly haven't caught on more in the US -- we've had them in Europe for ages. It's a pretty cheap clip-on wobble head that comes in all sizes (3-5packs usually) and you can combine any weight with any hook style/brand/size.

I feel like I'm fishing for the same fish that I would throw a Carolina rig and football jig for with a swing head but I have seen it on Toledo and Rayburn where they will eat this so much better at times. I've also played around with a heavy Tokyo rig fishing it just like a swing head and had a little bit better luck with the fish actually getting the bait better. I can only assume it's because the bait and hook is higher off the bottom but I really don't know. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

Always the most consistent and best educational videos on the net Matt. Thank You I was in the process of changing out some of my swing head EWG hooks for offset worm hooks and realized after cutting them off and adding a split ring that the worm hooks lay sideways because the hook eye's are 90 off. I didn't see your recommendation for the offset worm hooks using split rings in your video description and haven't found any I like. Do you have a recommendation for the worm hook to use with the swap? Thanks again for the great daily content.

I’m sure glad most people’s memory is just about a week in America today, otherwise I’d see more of this bait tied on. Matt give good info guys, but he does keep some things quiet. Interesting. The thought of using various soft plastics on a swing head isn't foreign to me. But, it's interesting to hear you compare it to a crankbait. I retrieve a crankbait somewhat quickly, and steadily. Are you referring to the speed of the retrieve, or that you're just reeling it back steadily (no variation), and slow enough to maintain bottom contact? Btw...what split rings do you use? I have yet to try that. I was on TW the other day when I went to pick those up and there were ton of sizes/options.

I slept on swing heads for a couple of years. I didn’t understand it. I didn’t like the big wide gap heavy hooks that came on them. I really didn’t see how it could be better or much different than dragging a football head around with something like a hula grub on it. Then I tried it 😂😂😂 Now I build my own with hooks I do like. I don’t appreciate you giving away that boot tail on one around spots and smallmouth though 🫣😡😩😏😂
