I really like that amp, but for a similar price I bought (used) a Suhr Badger 15, a Bad Cat Cub 15R and a Marshall SV20.

Whenever I’m interested in an amp, I’m like, “ohhhh I hope Paul did a video on this!” Your videos give just the right details and balance of talking and playing, always with tasteful playing that showcases the range of what the amps can do. It’s particularly useful on some of these expensive boutique ones because it’s often not easy to audition them before buying. Thank you!

Cheers Paul great video. Such a great amp. I bought it then got the matching 1x12 ported cab. It's retired my victory amps and pretty much all my drive pedals, not to mention my captor X. My view, it's not inexpensive but it is good value. The reality is I could easily sell all my other amps/drive pedals and just use the PT. There is also a non IR version available for about £400 or so less.

I love valves, have been using them miked on stage for 30 yrs. 15 watt is more than enough, more volume only creates trouble. However, I got tired of all the lifting 2 times p week. So now I got myself a Line6 amp with an XLR out. It weighs 10 kg. I use only the clean amp (sounds 'ok') and the rest just pedals. Love it for less than €250....

Great review, and I love your Katana content. Pete Thorn is the man, and this amp is everything I’d expect it to be, associated with P.T. as it is… However. No one amp is more versatile than three different, wisely chosen, $1300 amps. The price on this is prohibitive, no matter how good it is. I got a Boogie Mk. V/25 brand new for roughly half the price of this. That is quite something to say. It’s really versatile with a “Marshall in a box” pedal (that I already owned) out front. It does just about anything but a Plexi sound and the pedal takes care of that. I’m not sure why you’d buy an amp like this rather than any nice 15w amp, like an Orange OR15 and an IRL, or a Helix and an IRL, or even a Katana and an IRL. It’s for studio pros, not the regular Joe in a band. Even if one could afford this, it really eats into total budget in a way that I wouldn’t feel wise about. Furthermore, it’s all tube, so it will need to be maintained. In a way that tube amp techs don’t tend to like to do, in my experience. It’s an amp for a very small subset of players, imvho.

As an owner of a Tone King Imperial MK2 head and cab, Princeton 68 and Boss Katana MK2 practice amp I was very interested in this video. the PT15 .I.R is a very, very nice amp, that said I did think the output from the IR sounded very like my Boss Katana !! What do you know that has not gone up in the last 2 years and won't continue to go up? Are you not aware of the times we're living in? Im in usa where we are still somewhat free compared to the rest of the planet. We are not locked in and rounded up like cattle, we still have decent supply and supply chains and eggs...EGGS have gone up double the price. All the European clients I have tell me about the horror stories in Europe and what its like to get a good steak, I just had a couple tell me about people dying because they can't keep WARM. I thought they were joking, but they said you actually get prescribed heating from an f'n Doctor..but you are complaining about one of the highest components and highest quality a company puts out? Suhr is second to none in quality. I think you are unaware of what is going in on in the world as we speak. Im confident you are not aware of the spike steel has gone up to the last 2 years. Must be nice to have that mentality or live in that world.

Great review Paul , lovely tones, love that amp! Serious question though, is is really loud enough for a working function band? (I can't really agree with your opening comments, sorry). Generally you need a good 6dB lift for solos so headroom is essential. I've tried 20w watt amps that sound great - the power section is working hard, but there's no headroom, and just not practical for my needs with a loud drummer next to me! Interested in people's thoughts. (Of course, I can mic up and use monitors, but often that's not an option for the whole band to hear the guitar).

as far as versatility goes, I think the Hughes and Kettner Triamp MK 2 is king. 128 sounds to save, 3(or6) Channels, power soak,... However, I am still using my Marshall JMP1, that I got in the 1990s. Still one of the best for me :)

To answer the title question, well, for that price... it'd better be!!! 😯🤭😉 Sounds great. And of course Pete Thorn would know EXACTLY what makes a great and flexible amp. But bloody hell is it expensive - can't shake off the feeling that for all its excellence & qualities there still is a hefty price jacking by "our american friends" involved in the pricing, here. A different perception of price/value in that society, an always very unfavourable conversion from $ to € (or £), and a big price hike to pay for the brand's rather posh name. Me, I'd rent it for a recording session, but wouldn't buy it.
