@@theurbanartist775 IMHO the arturia. It comes with soundbanks (Analog Lab V), and ableton lite which will get you used to working in a DAW. Meaning you will get a plethora amount of sounds and an intro DAW to start composing beats.

Be aware that midi port is not compatible with other devices, as tip and ring connection are reversed and you need a special cable to make it work correctly.

Thanks for the nice review! Was considering a Minilab 3, but this is slightly cheaper and has everything I want. Minilab has nice piano-esque weighted keys, but I prefer a quicker semi-weighted type this I think.

You need a PC or an analog synth that takes in midi data. I’m not familiar with the Zoom R8 but if it takes in MIDI you’ll be good with the DMK 25 Pro

No, and last I checked the software for your own custom mappings didn't even exist.
