A western couple touring China with 3 young kids and wander around anywhere without have to worry of anything and fear of any dangerous. This really tell the world how safe is China even they don't speak Chinese language. Seriously, I won't dare to bring of kids at this age to Europe countries, US or any western country and tour free and easy like them. Unless I am with tour group with local tour leaders.

I live in Santa Clara, California. It is very safe and clean. Only an hour drive from San Francisco. It’s an expensive place to live, but lots of high paying jobs since it’s in the heart of the Silicon Valley. Don’t believe people saying US is a dangerous place. Like every where, you have to be aware of your surroundings. I’ve been to China. I much prefer the US.

It was highly exaggerated by the western media about China. You really don't need much courage if you do some research nowadays. May be 5 to 10 years ago when you still relied largely on printed and TV media. But nowadays you can see many travel blogs in China. The only inconvenience was the cashless system but it is much easier now they accept foreign credit cards at Alipay and WeChat. The most remarkable feature of China is the vast extent of its mountain chains. China has the world’s tallest mountain and the world’s highest and largest plateau, in addition to possessing extensive coastal plains, 1500 rivers with 4 great rivers. You can see some of the most spectacular views in China. Just that the western media don't necessary sell China as a travel spot like they did with Europe.

The statue is that of Guanyin, Chinese' goddess of mercy. This particular one is a sitting Guanyin. There's another one in the island province of Hainan, where a standing statue of 25 storeys tall overlooks a harbor. And you're right, the statue is serene and peaceful

you should head into the main CBD of guangzhou Tianhe, around the central park mall, or the tianhe fashon mall if you can find it, k11 mall is great too and the new old village in Liede there are so many amazing restaurants and sights to see. if you have the money you should spend a night at the rosewood hotel as well
