Is This The Rebirth of Queen And Queen City Cutlery Knives?

After Queen Cutlery went bankrupt in 2018, SMKW acquired the Queen trademark and began producing Queen and Queen City knives in early 2020. In this video, we take a look at the first two patterns produced for SMKW under the Queen trademark by Bear and Son Knives. These knives are produced right here in the United States and it will be interesting to see how SMKW moves forward with the Queen City brand.

As a boy queen was the best to me. Live only 25miles from the bear&son factory. Always pulled for them but to me they were sub par. Just hope they'll do this brand proudly.

It's about what you expect for a knife from Bear & Son. I'm pretty sure they pumped these out in 420 Stainless, similar to what Bear does for the Colonel Coon Knives made for SMKW. I'm pretty sure that Bear And Son is using old tooling from the old Camillus factory for several of their patterns and some of that is quite worn. To be honest, I'm more impressed with the Queen City made in China knives. Those were fantastic! But as the folks as SMKW said, they needed to get something made so they could retain the Trademarks. Here's hoping they can hook up with another company to produce a knife with better quality. Rumor has it they have approached Buck. We'll see. The Schatt & Morgan TM was retained by the Daniels Family and I believe they are making knives through Great Eastern, now.

NO.......the Schatt & Morgan trademark was sold during the bankruptcy/liquidation of everything associated with Queen Cutlery. A company based in Winchester Ohio purchased the Schatt & Morgan name, along with a whole treasure trove of the old cutlery making machinery used by Queen all those years. Sorry, I can't recall the name of the company at the moment, who bought the S&M trademark & all that equipment, but they are making knives IN OHIO as we speak. Another old trademark this same company bought & uses on knives right now, is "Weed & Co". There really was an old cutlery co of that name back in the day. The ONLY trademark that the Daniels family kept, is the TUNA VALLEY trademark. The Daniels family are also still making knives under the Tuna Valley name here in the USA, but I don't know who is actually making them. But I know for a fact that GEC is NOT making those knives.........at least not right now, anyway. Take care!!!

I've known about Blue Grass Cutlery for years, but couldn't remember where they are located. And yes, I know the Daniels family used to own the S&M name, along with Queen, Queen City, and the Tuna Valley trademarks.

Very cool. I like the fact they saved the brand. Cut it a little close on using it. Great that you got a pilot run. Be interesting to see the abalone. That gaping does look to uniform almost like it is purposely there. Wouldn't know why but it does look intentional. Good looking knives.

hey JB i found my old queen city toothpick it's usa made has stag scales and there's a shield embedded in one scale of the Q with a dagger for the tail on the Q with a crown on top of the Q at the base of the blade reads QueenCity and on the other side says USA but oddly enough there is no steel type marking a little history for ya brother! take care

my custom folders have a 3 pull but a 7 for about the first 1/32'' to keep it tightly closed and an 8 at open . this is done by multi-radiusing the tang. it cannot be done in mass production, it must be done by hand and no other knifemaker does it

I'd be willing to bet it's 440a, pretty sure that's what B&S's lower range stainless is. I'd like the stiffer pull of the Queen, but the light pull of the Queen City might mean mom would actually be able to open it! haha

Aside from the fact I'm not crazy about trappers, I am with Dave Donkey on these; Rough Riders look to be made with better quality of finish. I would guess at the steel being either 440A or 420.
