Oh, what a shame. The theme park looks pretty cool and enoughly-well preserved, even with few people around. But it's real: many places had their time of splendour and slowly or quickly faded away, sort of speak. And then they close or in strange cases (could be seen as a weird kind of "sustainable negligence" or pure lazyness from owners), it becomes this "limbo park" stuff. Doesn't go up hill nor down, and gets enough revenue to just, well... stay open. It's curious how this kind of places exist all over the world. Frozen in time and still breathing.

As I can understand that two Beluga exhibits are in after the death of Kiska as she passed two weeks after my dog died. As there is news that the dead owners wife plans to sell the park. As for the land animals could be moved to Toronto Zoo and the animals could be moved to other parks as for Niagara Aquarium could take all the animals in, but the dolphins and belugas could be moved to Sea World parks and other parks that can house them. As perhaps Marineland can be a new amusement park without the animals like six flags or Dorney. As maybe the park will make improvements hopefully.
@bennyhonna8195 Жыл бұрын
Marineland is a former shell of itself. I worked there for one summer about 10 years ago. From my understanding, the park used to get about 1 to 1.5 million guests a year back in the 90s and 2000s. When I worked there in 2014 they had around 700k after the summer season. Now, I am hearing they are lucky to see 250k in an entire season. The park used to be much more lively. Very sad to see the park slowly falling apart, but I also understand why. I worked there when the original owner was still alive and he did not take care of the park the way his wife has. There was one attraction added between 2009 and 2019. Since 2019, the “new” owners have added 2 rides, polar splash, penguin palace, Marineland Express, and has made many small park improvements. Niagara is a small community and everyone knows everyone. Pre-COVID, the goal was for Marineland to make a transition from marine park to theme park, similar to what Sea World is doing. That has obviously been delayed due to the pandemic, but hopefully people see the positive changes the park is making and start going to the park to see for themselves.

My mom and I have been saying for years that that is what they should do! If they added more thrill rides/shows it could be like a Disney park minus Disney characters. That way, my country could have something close to being its own Disney park since the Mouse House has always refused to build one here.

Last time I was at Marineland back in 2016 I smacked my head on Kandu's Twister. It is such an aggressive ride that left me with a minor concussion. It is absolutely disgusting how malnourished the animals looked - the bears were only fed corn pops and cheerios that you would have to purchase to feed them - and majority of the rides were abandoned or not functioning like they did in the late 90s and early 2000s. The park feels absolutely depressing; and all the whales (orca, belugas, dolphins) looked severely depressed; which is caused exactly from years of being in captivity in a small pool. Kiska did not deserve to be imprisoned in the place for nearly 50 years and I hope that the whale sanctuary project can retrieve the remaining belugas and force the park to shut down or to have an investor purchase the land to revamp the park into a proper theme park; like new rides - while still keeping but possibly renaming some of the older popular ones like dragon mountain and the sky screamer - and attractions that would bring guests back to the park. Overall, this video is showing the major issues that has been a result of the original greedy park owner and how there is so much "wasted" land that should be utilized and rebought for something ethical, purposeful, and enjoyable to the Niagara Region.

I gotta say, Jacob was certainly giving... generous in his review of it. Even ignoring the animal abuse allegations (which is hard to do)... This is a park in its death throes, and even through the video, signs of decay were very obvious (the aquarium, the one building with the arcades...). Many rides closed due to lack of staff, stalls just shuttered up. The park has history of corner cutting, scrapped projects, and poor management (rumors that the original owner was a bit of a penny pincher). There were some other things that i don't know of Jacob noticed, like the train tracks that go through the park but aren't part of it. Or that for that huge empty space, only 1 restaurant is open. And yeah, land or sea, none of those enclosures are suitable for the animals they held. Right now it sounds like marineland is looking to sell, and I'm pretty happy with that. Get rid of the animals, and you know primo real estate to create an amusement park to put Canada's wonderland to shame. Get like six flags or heck, Sea World (they should know how to unanimal their parks). Wouldn't mind some good competition in the amusement parks up here

In my country, we have no captive whales or dolphins any more, it was outlawed in 1993 to keep these animals at zoos/parks , so it feels pretty sad to see these animals in such small tanks. I hope they get relocated one day to somewhere with more space.

Who owns Marineland? I"m gonna guess it was some son or daughter that inherited it, and they couldn't care less about it anymore.

Those drop towers are the worst. You don’t need to prove anything to anyone. If it makes you uncomfortable don’t do it.

That place looks like it in serious trouble. The condition of the stone work by the second beluga whale place plus the fact there are no people, things closed and just so light use of the land.

I feel like, you were at a abandoned amusement park, without literally been abandoned, it's because, that entire part, give me abandon, without giving me abandon, maybe it's because, some things are closed, there's no people in a hot suit that's based of an character of some kind and quite literally, not much people there.

The viking boat ride type is called a Rockin' Tug. Because the base model is themed like a tugboat.

You should definitely go back for Dragon Mountain. It's perpetually unfinished with a really weird layout. It was opened without all the theming ever being built. It's truly bizarre. There are great videos you can see about it. The Problematic Coasters series has a good one I think

Speaking from experience, I definitely remember it being a whole lot more popular in the early-mid 2000's what with all the stupidly catchy "Everyone Loooooooooves, Marineland" commercials that they'd air on TV. It was certainly more popular with kids and teens before all the animal neglect and cruelty got more spread out what with the internet becoming more popular with kids. I'd say it dropped off around the late 2000's - early 2010's, at least that's around the last time I went because my school would do school trips to it but we stopped going once I hit like 6th grade.

As a Canadian i hate this place. They've mistreated their animals and I don't understand with the reputation they have that they are still open. I hope that they will tear it down and make a mini wonderland or a smaller scale six flags I am sorry you spent your day here. Please visit Canada's wonderland in Vaughan if you come back.

Yup Canada wonderland is way better and more fun. I'm a gold pass holder for wonderland. I prefer that than this depressing place. yeah I would love for them to change it into another Canada wonderland. I wouldn't mind for having two wonderland parks.

It has potential, being in a tourist centre, but their treatment of the animals really hurt their reputation with the public.

That was so sad to see when the best part of an amusement park/zoo visit was the carpetbagger imitating a dolphin with a plastic head on a stick. I did laugh aloud at "where's the penguins?" "I guess there's no penguins.."

Thanks for sharing the video, I've been going there since I was a little kid, it actually use to be packed with people back in the day to the point of line ups at every ride, a bit shocking to see how empty it is. Also it seems nothing is new there in many years.

For a moment, I thought you had returned to your roots and were doing an abandoned places video. The park looked interesting enough however, being the old fart that I am, I'm not sure my knees could handle all that walking.😂

That was bizarre, I too worry about the care of the animals. Those few aquarium with the koi and gar did not look that good. I had to look on Google earth and it said that major roller coasters is temporarily closed. Oh when you go to the amusement parks and ride something that makes you feel sick . Carry some peppermint or ginger hard candy also drink a ginger ale, those all help decrease nausea. Way to hang in there! Keep up the great work oh any word on your car

There are people that are Coaster Enthusiasts in a literal sense. They will ride the tallest and fastest roller coasters, but will never ride a drop tower for a million dollars because of heights
