Live cash games are quite different from online, and here are 6 of the biggest things you MUST understand: www.splitsuit.com/live-poker-cash-game-truths
@philipgali62052 жыл бұрын
I think that 1) the odds of him having that ace are super low, 2) he might've tried check raising seeing your river bet as a bluff because of the way you played preflop, i.e. flatting so he probably didn't put you on an overpair hence thinking you bluffed the river. Overmore, you slowplayed the whole flop, not indicating once that you have a premium hand. I believe this gave him the idea that you had air, and he might've genuinely felt 100% comfortable with ANY pair, thus demonstrating signs of confidence and comfort on the river. Overall, I think this was a call due to all these things considered.
@geoffin992 жыл бұрын
Turning your logic around on you here. Your whole argument would result in a call from him. There would be no reason to raise and risk a call by a better hand if he thought that the bet he was facing was most probably a bluff, because if it was a bluff it won't pay off the raise anyway.

Ok, assuming you're correct in what SB is thinking, what is he calling the flop and xr the turn with? What does he decide is good to call the flop with and now go for a XR on the turn with? Most live 2-5 players aren't going for a xr bluff on the turn. Espec vs 2 players. He's just going to assume both don't have Ax and risk it? Maybe on the river he might (unlikely), but definitely not vs 2 ppl.

my Grandma played microstakes - and once told me she had exactly the same hand like this one: pocket (KK) and played it exactly the same way (which is common in microstakes!!). She did call pre flop raise, (she wanted blinds to come in 🙄), checked flop, raised Turn. . She called the river shove and the V showed 45x. When I asked her how did she know V was bluffing, she said: "if he had an A in no way he would've wanted to fear me away from the pot. He would've bet smaller and get me either to call or bluff!!" Im very proud of my grandma! Then, I was a jaw drop, she looked at me and said: "How often happens to you all 4 A and 2 K's are in the same hand?? I said: Not very often, grandma. Maybe once in 25 years. "Exactly! She exclaimed. I wanted to see that before I die"! I'm very proud of my grandma.

what I am uncertain of is if the "he plays his big hands fast" info even applies here. if he has Ax, he flopped almost the nuts (trips) and turned the nuts. and he check calls $25 on both streets. that does not strike me as playing fast at all.
@cain25482 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter whether he has the Ax or not. This is a +EV call by a substantial amount. Plus the value of seeing his cards in a situation like this is also very valuable. CALL I put him on 44 or TT.
@adriennes77392 жыл бұрын
Why 44? I think 9x +TT-QQ is more likely to inspire confidence in villain. 44 is only beating 33, 22 and hands like KQ which are not gonna call a check raise, assuming villain wants a call. But it is live poker, so perhaps you’re right and villain thinks 44 is still worth raising because someone else can’t find a fold with deuces. I agree this is a call with kings. It’s the single best hand in hero’s calling range on the river.
@rhyinsdad21892 жыл бұрын
It’s very hard to know if you were correct in this case. You underrepresented your hand on every street. It is a large raise on the river which seems to represent an Ace. I don't know. I'm just a beginner. But a bad fold does less damage then a bad call. I would have raised preflop. Because that's a better strategy for beginners. Maybe it's also a better strategy when you don't have much information on the players on your table?

I like the bet/fold on the end. People at these stakes hardly ever bluff or value own themselves in this spot. I think there are two traits that can help most live low stakes players. Those two are being able to make exploitable folds and get value where other players don't.
@johnnyBuz0722 жыл бұрын
Interesting hand. It'd be pretty incredible if he turned a hand like JJ/TT into a bluff while thinking he was going for some kind of thin value vs. your 88-55 type of hand. The river xr sizing is strong and you'd really have to wonder what he's sticking around for multiple streets with after the UTG PFR bets at the board twice 3-way. It's really close but I think due to his 4x raise sizing you let this one go (correctly) and snap off the smaller 2-3x raises.
@Dynamice13372 жыл бұрын
I think it's a fairly balanced spot equity wise. Sometimes I call if I have good showdown value to discourage future hero bluffs and to see what type of hands my opponents raise with. if it's close I default to calling until I have a better read on how my opponents play. I like the preflop call, it seems like you may be more comfortable postflop than your opponents so getting involved mutliway is less of a problem. Plus having some big pair limps and calls preflop keeps your opponents off balance, as long as your decisions are strategy based and not fear based I think it's fine.
@wesleylikesmusic2 жыл бұрын
You mentioned that he always fast plays big hands. Check calling until the river seems different? I especially don't see him checking the river thinking that both of you seem weak and could check behind

I’m not sure that I could make that fold. Very read dependent. I think that I might have put in a raise on the turn face with those annoying $25 bets. That might be bad but also might give me an idea of where I am at before the river. Great content!
@chrisellis38142 жыл бұрын
First, I reraise with the KK pre-flop. I think you're good often enough on the river to call for the extra $300. I think the SB figures 10-10, JJ or QQ is a "big" hand often enough for him to raise the river with it. Nothing you or the open raiser had done in the hand to that point would have convinced him otherwise. Maybe if you'd raised on an earlier street he just calls river instead of raising (unless he actually has the case ace) and you win at showdown?
@arnoldPLO52 жыл бұрын
When SB and BB are not considered to be very aggressive, I would always 3bet with KK - people fold too less vs 3bets. And on the river I would play something like 160 (polarized) which is probably also the bet size with Ax and a bluff. Then, against any raise it is a no-brainer fold.
@crimsonfanzine93412 жыл бұрын
Based on the reads, I think you made the totally reasonable play. Although he has just so many bluffs/value hands that can checkraise here against an unrepped hand that might try to steal the pot on the BTN, that we have the odds. I think it should be a call on the long run with the 2nd nuts. I guess this is a spot where pure GTO thinking says call, and pure exploitative or exploitative-gto mix says fold.

So I would raise turn to 100, however if SB flats turn I think I check back the river Crazy hand
@geoffin992 жыл бұрын
Using a GTO chart to say a pre-flop flat here should be done some of the time is only correct if you're playing a game with opponents who won't be making mistakes. Meaning, that small and big blind won't be coming along after a 5x UTG open and a call, as most of their GTO options would be fold, followed by 3-bets and few flat calls. But at a live 2-5 game a call on the button will often be followed by at least one if not two calls and now your KK is up against too many hands. So I wouldn't recommend an occasional call here.

As you have tagged the player as someone who plays his big hands fast, I just don’t see him check calling the flop and and the turn with an Ax hand and then checking the River. The likelihood of UTG and yourself checking it down on the River with what must be marginal made hands if he has the Ace is much too high and UTG did check fold on the River. As you just called the pfr and also called the small flop and turn bet and bet relatively small on the River, I’d guess he has 10s or Jacks (which you said he won’t raise preflop), is assuming you can’t have a larger pair as you didn’t 3bet preflop and is trying to get max value from a 9 or smaller pocket pair.
@qb4trolls2 жыл бұрын
From what you tell us, you have some information about the villain, but do you really have enough info to fold the 2nd Nuts? How many of the fast plays hands did you see? Is villain aware that you have seen his good hands being fast played? - You underplayed your hand from the get go and can easily be put on a medium to low pair or QJ+. You are also mandatory to bluff at the river if you don't have a made hand. If you had an ace in your hand you'd might 3-bet pre-flop. (UTG isn't to consider in this hand 'cause og how they played) What can't be commentet is your gut feeling, the white magic, that derives of all your hours at the pokertable. Instinct is based on all the information you have accumulated over the years. So you consider him strong because he feels strong, but does he need that ace to feel strong? so villain may be value-raising with a worse hand than you. And that's why you need to make the crying call, imo
@Notorietypulp2 жыл бұрын
I don't hate the fold, you say players normally show quads, but some players don't like to break their own rules, so as long as he thinks he should answer "will you show?" With "no", he might just take it with him. I do wanna add that SBs line makes sense with KK also, but that seems kinda unlikely from preflop
@sbondsee15402 жыл бұрын
I also play in Cherokee quite often and I believe SB had the Ace 99% of the time here. Especially in the 2/5 game. Many factors make me believe this but the main one is no player I’ve seen there has the heart to make this bluff on the river

If you subscribe to the idea that large bets on the turn are usually the nuts, and large bets on the river are the nuts, then the fold was a good one.
@FosterFox52 жыл бұрын
As played, I think that there are enough combinations that you beat that thinks that they are doing this for value that don’t contain an A. TT, JJ, QQ, KK and some combos with a 9 that your opponent thinks that they spiked to give them a winner or raised to push you off a 9 and avoid a chop. Plus there could be a few but not many bluffs. I would have called. Could this not be a case of a bad beat as well?

I think this is a call with kings. It’s the single best hand in hero’s calling range on the river. Villain will auto profit holding two baseball cards if you fold KK here. Based on the way hero played the hand, villain could have TT JJ and QQ, under the assumption there’s no way hero flatted preflop with JJ QQ or KK, plus flatting takes so many aces out of hero’s range as well. From villain’s perspective the only hands they lose to are aces that flatted preflop. In live poker villain can totally put hero on 55-TT after flatting pre and the flop. And again, live poker, sometimes those hands will call a river check raise bc lol I have a boat. So it makes sense for villain to thin value bet TT JJ QQ, and simply fold to a river 3bet. Add in 4 confused, double barrel c betting bluffs (king high will often be good on that flop and turn) that raised in response to your river raise and we have 22 combos you beat. There’s A2c-A9c -A4c + 4x(AT+AJ+AQ) +2xAK = 23 reasonable combos of Ax. Getting a price, must call.
@adriennes77392 жыл бұрын
good bluffing candidates for villain here would be any hand with 5c, Tc, Jc or Qc since those are the most likely aces in the pot. But even better, if you have queens with Qc or jacks with Jc a value bet is even safer.

Why do you think that SB saying he would not show if you fold indicates a stronger hand? I feel that most recreational players want to show quads
@jppagetoo2 жыл бұрын
If you had a good read, go with that. Fold was probably OK with the pots odds. It's better to get the money in where you have more confidence. I probably would have called. I think they easily could have had a hole pair of Q's or J's. 3rd and 4th nuts would be pretty strong and proper to reraise there. Considering you are on the button you could easily have a wide range and bet there with lots less than KK. 2nd nuts is a cooler, sometimes you have to be willing to take that beat.
@bradjones78352 жыл бұрын
Interesting hand. I don't love the fold but don't hate it. Villain's going to have quads a significant percentage. I also think villain thinks he's betting for value. So the question to me is: (1) what does the large pre-flop open size mean; and (2) will villain ever over-value JJ-KKs, not putting you on KK or an ace. To me #2 is definitely yes. #1 is harder. I think the large open raise size would discount some non-suited AJ+ from most players and we have blockers. I also think most players underestimate the frequency quads show up here, which pushes more pairs into villain's value bet range. So back of the napkin, I have more second-best full house hands in my range analysis. But if I saw this player open regularly to that size pre-flop, this is a fold. Not a criticism, because I understand your rationale on each street and it may be the optimal way to play the hand: But we took the passive action pre-flop, flop, on fourth street, and are now in an awkward position on the river. That's the natural consequence of the way we played the hand, which requires a lot of good post-flop decision making. Candidly, I'm not good enough to take this line and would 3-bet KKs 100% of the time pre. That may be different for a professional. I do think live most players with quads would have shown the ace. (If the room had a high hand promo, I assume you would have mentioned it).

If that poker room had a "HIGH HAND" promo running the villain would more than likely shown an ACE if he had one.

Taking all things into consideration ... I think it was a good fold. The more I think about it, the more I go uuuuhhhhmmmm, maybe not haha. However, he check-called both the flop and the turn ... Yes QQ - 10's could float but taking into consideration the small blinds willingness to continue the under the guns range makes me think he is way stronger than he lets on. The way you played the hand as well, does not seem as though you were as strong as you were ... So this makes the argument that he was bluffing more feasible. He was probably thinking that he could get you off a hand like 9's or 4's full. So in my opinion you were either way ahead or way behind haha. One question though ... When you say the river bet is 100% mandatory, what is your reasoning behind this? And because you played the hand that passively, if you believe that the bet was that mandatory, don't you think that a standard 3x raise on the river is a call? If you felt you were behind, does that then not mean its better to check the river, and not put yourself in a position to be folding the best hand? Very interesting though and thanks for the content.

This is NOT playing the hand fast in any way, so I feel like you 'reverse psychology'-ed yourself into a fold. Wouldn't be surprised to see them show up with any pocket pair, or maybe even some random 4x or 9x hand. You underrepped your hand the whole way. What was the point if you aren't calling the raise you clearly induced?(edited, I think any of the hands I mentioned were raising for value not a bluff)
@knasttrast71682 жыл бұрын
I would never fold in this spot, why would you believe what the guy was telling? He might tell that so he could bluff while you think he has the nuts. I dont care what people say, I only look at what they do. Also even if people dont bluff much on the river there might be many full house that would value bet the river.

I call. You said he likes to fast play his handa. Surely he'd have check raised trips multiway on earlier streets? Also like you said, most players in live games are happy to show quads. Your hand is mega under repped - I don't think he's bluffing, he's doing this with a pair believing he has the best hand.

I'd just check it down. Someone raising 5x and some calling that out of SB puts way more Aces in their ranges. But I play online micros!
@noex1002 жыл бұрын
UTG never has an ace, as played. And 5x is very standard in live games.

Top of my range so I call. I really wouldn't waste more than a nanosecond on this decision.

I would have called 100% even if he did have Ax you are still getting great odds on a call it's definitely not certain he has an A but even if it's like 70% of the time it's still +Ev and he can easily have several other pairs that he's overplaying, bad fold IMO

We're all guessing right but IMO villain had that A and throws feeler bets in to see if anyone would stick about with a good pair in hand then drops a bigger river bet to give off a bluffy feel. Good disciplined fold👍

This is a fold. Sb has Ax nearly every time here. Only way it’s a call is if you’re getting 10 to 1 and villains name is Bill Klein. To those who think it’s a call… what hands is the sb over calling twice with then check raising the river? JJ? 10’s? No way.. nearly never, not to mention they’d have to be pretty terrible to flat out of the sb with the button already calling. it’d be a maniacal bluff not to mention over calling twice.. he knows no one has the ace because he has it himself.

Honestly, I think you played all three streets pretty bad. Kings is a mandatory 3bet in a live game where people will call too wide, and inviting a third player into the hand will cause exactly the predicament you were in and torch your equity. What would you rather do, call 25 and see a flop with 40% equity of 75$ or 3bet and see a flop with 150$ in the pot and 80% equity. You basically took a premium hand and lit it on fire preflop. Once you get to river, it's a snap call. How are you folding KK when small blind can easily have a 9, TT, JJ, or maybe QQ? Ok, sometimes you lose to an Ace, but there are only a few combos of Aces that make any sense for small blind to have and 18 combos of pairs that you beat that may check raise for value.

ALWAYS muck when everyone else folds even if you have the nuts. You want your opponents to know as little about you and be as unpredictable as possible.
@mattstieg53882 жыл бұрын
Why not show your fold gave up? At worst could give you a new image to exploit (fake steam next big bluff). Might they widen their range vs you & fold more?...or think you'll be over-protectung?
@BBshark0002 жыл бұрын
Absolutely terrible fold imo. With 3 Aces on the board it doesn’t matter to do a thorough analysis of ranges at this point, SB either had an Ace or don’t. KK is the top of your range and since you know SB is an incredibly bad player they might over-value pocket pairs or hit a 9 at the river thinking the might have the best full house. In fact, if SB is really a loose player and fast play all his good hands, he should have less AK, AQ, AJ combos as well as 10s to QQ in his range. This leaves with some small Aces and many low pocket pairs as well as random cards with a 4 or 9 in his range. This is a mandatory call.
@jonmarck6 ай бұрын
Easy call. QQ, JJ, TT, 99, these are all shoves, never mind bluffs. You should have DEFINITELY called.
@raymondrufa9712 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting scenario to be in. The SB was a Call Station until the river with the Check/Raise. Too bad there wasn't a promotional event going on. Maybe we could've seen it then if Quad Aces was a thing. I probably would've done the same as you but thinking there may have been a monster, a check would been an option as well.

Jesus Christ, horrific horrific horrific. Your channel has a lot of valuable information on GTO, game theory, etc. but I'm not sure how well you understand live poker dynamics. Given your passiveness preflop and small river sizing in position, this guy is raising as a bluff a lot more often then he has quads... calling is the clear +EV play.
@michaelstephens98522 жыл бұрын
He probably didn't put you on kings and thought 10s or jacks were good. You were very disguised. That was a bad fold at those odds. Just call and don't raise. Wow.

@shynepo32 жыл бұрын
auto fold, the check raise is never a bluff (because unless he's an idiot he must know you have Ax a lot too) and he doesnt do this with TT-QQ, so pretty easy to me
@conorm25242 жыл бұрын
Why wouldn't SB have TT-QQ? And the way the button played his KK screamed weakness which would lead SB to think the hero had either air or a small pocket pair. 🤷

Wrong, there are over 40 combos of Ax unaccounted for. Very likely he DOES have the ace.
