Is This The Worlds Smallest Walmart? I love this One Because It's So Easy to Get In & Out of FAST

I had to show you this WalMart because I just love how SMALL it is. I've been here several times when in the area making videos. So easy to get in and get out but yet they still have about everything a full-size one has. I also noticed that they had a VERY large and friendly staff working . It's located in New Tazewell, Tennessee so if you are in the area stop by and give it a look see and tell them John form the Appalachian Channel sent you.

There are no fresh vegetables or fresh fruits at this Wal Mart. But it does have your basic necessaries and the people are nice and friendly. The manager does a good job of keeping it running smoothly. It also has self checkouts or an employee to check you out. It’s tiny by todays standards but it works. One year at Christmas I went to several larger Wal Marts surrounding us looking for a sale item with no luck. I came back home to this Wal Mart and I found it there. We’ve heard rumors for years that a super Wal Mart is going to be built here but I think I like it just the way it is.

I just wonder if only the US have those big stores, i live in germany and here the average foodstore here is like a third or a quarter of what was shown in this video. Basicly all the same stuff but way less different options in brands on each item, like 3 or 4 brands of butter, same for like cheese and so on.

Oh that is soooo nice to see an original Wal Mart! When they closed the south Nashville (Nolensville RD/Old Hickory BLVD) store I loved, shopped, and worked at (on my days off from my nursing job for fun!), they killed a huge part of our community. Many came from other neighborhoods to shop there because it was small and easy to shop in. Enjoyable to shop in! Many of our regular customers were elderly and quit shopping Wal Marts when they killed our little store. I quit and did not have any interest in working in the cold and too big to shop superstore they moved to that was outside of our neighborhood. We had a great manager that always made it a positive atmosphere. We had meetings that were to give us awards, mentioning how good we worked, encouraging us instead of ruling by threats like other places do. I never shopped Wal Marts after they closed our store...and neither did most of our elderly (which I am now too) customers...they switched to smaller stores like the dollar stores or smaller grocery stores. Greed is all it is now. Sickens me! When Sam was alive Wal Mart stood for American values, American made goods! I think he would be totally disgusted and disappointed in what his beloved Wal Mart has become. I know I have! So do all you can to save your small store!!! They didn't listen to us, the consumers and workers when we tried to tell them it was a huge mistake. God bless and protect your little store!

I love the smaller Walmart. Wish all the bigger ones would go back to them. Most of the time you can't find an accociate in ours, all you see is the shoppers for on line shoppers. Sometimes there are 4 or more in one asile. It's getting to where I don't like going in. Always loved the mom and pop stotes, as my oldest brother and his wife had one in Arkansas. Would love to see the mom and pop stores make a come back. Thanks John for sharing.

Yes I agree John with liking the smaller Walmart better. When I leave my house I can go right 1 mile and get a Super Walmart. I can go left 1 1/2 miles and get a division 1 older Walmart that has the same things the super Walmart has but less of them. I opt for the smaller Walmart because the help is less stressed and are more friendly. You and the family have a great 4Th.

I don’t like having to go to Walmart, but I do. The prices are much ch cheaper on most things so it is the pricing that drives me to Walmart. This Small Walmart seems to have incredible customer service, something I have never seen at ANY other Walmart. I’ve been in Walmarts in South Carolina, West to Texas, to Florida, and up to Tennessee. That’s a special little Walmart that you’ve found! 👍😊

Smaller is better. I always recall smaller grocery stores in general. The kind I shopped in about 40 years ago. Most all of the grocery stores today + Super Walmarts are just too big for my liking. Few years back I visited a small IGA grocery in Western Ky. Loved it. Could still see where the store manager sat up in a booth at the front corner of the store. I think IGA grocery stores as a whole are still quite small by comparison.

My first job was at at small, local, family-owned IGA. We carried peoples groceries to their car. You didn’t ask them if they needed help out to their car, you just assumed that they did want help unless they specifically told you they would take it themselves.

I have always liked that Walmart. The one in Big Stone Gap, Virginia might have been smaller than the New Tazewell one, but it closed a few years back. That one was the first Walmart in Virginia. I was a kid when it opened, and I remember it being a huge deal in these parts. K-Mart was still king in those days, though. I hope the New Tazewell store has a long life ahead of it.

I worked for Walmart back in 2004. A smaller one before they made it a super center. I now live 3 miles from a nother super Walmart. They are ok. But I feel they have lost contact with their loyal customers feels and it's just all about the money. Since Sam Walton passed away. But I'm there at least twice a. Week.

I love the small mom and pop stores but they just don't have everything I need, so I shop Walmart. We have to remember that Sam Walton started our as a small Ben Franklin store but he figured out how to buy lower and sell lower so his little store grew into the largest in the world. thanks for the comment...

We visited this small Walmart in New Tazewell 2 weeks ago on our way to Cumberland Gap. They had the travel coffee maker I was looking for when big Walmart was sold out. Recognized it from your video thumbnail photo. Nice!

We have a Walmart Supercenter, and a Walmart Neighborhood Market. I really like the Walmart where you’re at. It’s small and it looks like they’re stocked up pretty good. ❤

Reminds me of the old Carthage, TN Walmart. It also opened in the 80s. I believe it was 36,000 sq. ft. - I remember reading that when the building went up for sale. A new Supercenter opened about two miles up the road in 2008, which itself is also on the small end at only 104,000 sq. ft. It only has one main entrance and none of the shops up front like a Vision Center or hair salon. I think we were all a little disappointed when we finally got a ‘big’ Walmart only for it to not be all that big, but the small town charm still remains. Even being smaller, I still prefer to shop there over larger Walmarts in nearby towns. It’s just a different kind of experience.

This is the model of Walmart that was in small towns. The one in Marshfield, MO where my wife was from, had a Walmart like this, took up one third of a strip mall with a grocery store on the other end, just like this one. Then, they built a larger, freestanding one, after that, a bigger supercenter located on the edge of town.

In many small towns (Dayton, Hixson, Fort Oglethorpe, Murphy, Soddy-Daisy, etc.) across the south, Walmart opened these stores in the 1980s. These stores served these communities by providing a wide variety of items. As Walmart started to open the mega super-center stores, these smaller “hometown” stores closed in most of these places. When the super-stores opened, they brought lots of jobs, but many of the small businesses in town just could not compete with the Walmart prices. Smaller retail stores usually closed up quickly as their business went to the super-center. Dried up a lot of main streets in these small towns. It is unusual today to find these smaller, “hometown” Walmart stores still open.

Thanks for your videos John. I’m a former employee of Walmart and my husband still works for them. So when we travel of course we stop to see the smaller stores. If you hit the road go to Thayer, Missouri. That is the smallest stand alone Walmart we have come across in our travels. Thanks again.

Those were relatively common about 10 years ago or so. A lot of them are shut down now because even if your town had one, people would still drive 15 miles over to the next town go to a super Wal-Mart

I love Walmart. I shop my local Walmart Supercenter & we also have a Neighborhood market (mainly groceries) that will deliver to my house in the country at the end of a rural gravel road. I love the convenience. My son lives in town & he can have groceries delivered within a few hrs easily. We never actually have to go into the store at all if we don't want to. I also love that my husband gets quite a few of his diabetic supplies much cheaper through their pharmacy than he can anywhere else. Walmart isn't my favorite store....I love Aldi more....but it's at the top of my list & I shop there often.

Thank you, John! I do enjoy the small stores, mom & pop stores, and locally owned shops and try to support them when possible! There are still a few of them sprinkled around here in southeast New Hampshire. However, we probably do 90% of our shopping at the local Walmart Super Center in Seabrook NH. Life is so busy and I do love being able to check so many boxes on my shopping and to do lists, all in one location! Not to mention, they are either comparable or cheaper than most other places on all their products. What really sealed the deal for me is when they purchased my favorite football team! They paid roughly 4.75 Billion for the Denver Broncos a couple years ago and I like the moves they’ve made to get my beloved Broncos back on top! So now when I shop, I feel like I’m helping keep my team financially healthy as well! 🧡 💙 🏈

I work at Walmart in Sioux Falls, Sd for 17years. Wal Mart came to the Dakotas in1990 before Sams death. The 4 county metro area of Sioux Falls is 225000 population. A growing area all kinds of building going on. I work in the first Wal Mart that was built here didnt have grocery orginally but was added later. Now have 4 super centers all with 225,000 square feet. Its over50 to 60 miles in any direction to the next Wal Mart.

Buffalo Missouri is the smallest Walmart in America or at least it still was 5 years ago it’s about 25 miles from me and it has 2 checkout lanes unlike the supercenters with 20 checkout lanes and just 2 cashiers 😂

There’s a Walmart in St. Augustine, Fl that is a Division 1 store with the drop ceiling on the GM side, but they added on for the grocery side with rafters instead of the drop ceiling’s.

This looks pretty similar to the one in my county. Whitesburg, Kentucky. Big Stone Gap, Virginia had one of the smallest Wal-Marts I’ve ever been in but it’s closed now. Jackson, Kentucky also has a very small Wal-Mart.

These are the original Walmart store sizes I recall being built in the early to mid ‘80s. My dad and uncle worked for an electrical contractor, and I recall my brother and I going with them to help them with wiring the entire store. Well, there were two that I can recall help with electrical work: one in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and the other in Eunice, Louisiana. I heard the one in Eunice is no longer a Walmart, not sure if the one in Breaux Bridge is one either, although I remember it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere with a sugar cane field right next to it. We had one in Opelousas, Louisiana that size, too. I think it later became a grocery store and a Supercenter was built a bit closer to one of main streets that are most traveled in the city. That left the shopping center, where Walmart was originally, less visited and over time, looks more abandoned by the good stores that used to be there.

Yes I have seen a much smaller one. Come to Canada and then take a long hard drive to Newfoundland and Labrador , Labrador City . Might even be the most isolated one as well .

In Rutland Vermont pop. 61k our Walmart is about 76k square foot. Land use issues and anti-sprawl laws stop it from becoming larger.

You mean they actually have more than just one checker?? We have store #49. The original store was closed and they built a new super center a little over 20 years ago. On the older stores when the tiles wear out they strip them and polish the concrete. The newer ones are built without floor tiles. Someone finally figured out they could save a few beans. Polyurethane is much cheaper.

I don't know if you have them up there, but in Texas they have "Neighborhood Marts" which are about 1/2 the size of the large Walmart's. Still looks like this one is smaller then those. Madisonville ,Tx still has a smaller one like this model.

Hardinsburg KY. 40143 is supposed to be the world's smallest Wal-Mart. At least that's what I've been told. They don't even have a pharmacy. And no self check outs.

I dislike the bigger walmarts. In colorado springs we have the bigger ones and marketplace walmarts (which is mostly food ect). I would shop at one that size if it was near me
