About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

I understand about people preferring the softer or less “tropical” colors, but have also followed many famous restorations through the years where color-ways had to be changed when more enlightened research was done and it was found that earlier generations had been far more adventurous with colors than had been previously thought. And it is also true that when one is in a competitive market, for instance when one owns a chateau with rooms to rent, in a growing and highly competitive field and price range, one is trying to produce rooms that are interesting and memorable. Rooms that stand out. So we probably need to watch the evolution of design at Lalacelle keeping all that in mind and cheering them on as they make magic out of nothing and very little money. As I think of my favorite chateau renovations and watch their viewing and attendance numbers, it is the distinctive ones that end up ahead in bookings and profit. Lalacelle is way ahead in friendliness, workmanship and courage. I am betting that they will win their future battles too.

I agree with every word. People who want to stay in these magnificent castles which have been meticulously restored, do want authenticity, however, I do think you can tailor your colors somewhat. Take for instance the Tiffany Turquoise in question. No one is favoring it even though it was a color used at the time the Chateau was built. Nowadays we associate it with homes in a hot climate and not Northern France. Luckily, there are thousands of colors to choose from and as we know Terry, he will find just the right one. I’m amazed he asks for our opinion! 😊

A splash of those colors is nice. A whole room would be overwhelming for me. I think one comment about looking tropical was on point. Wouldn't European chateaux have had lapis lazuli or wedgewood blue? I know it was a favorite color of George Washington.

These homes would actually often bring the tropics to France in various formats. There are numbers of tropical wallpapers that were used in these bright colours. They would build the glass houses to grow palms and fruit and chinoiserie was incredibly popular. The Wedgewood blue and dull colours was much more common in England.

Big NO to the bright turquoise! The last 2 colors were much better. The muted blue (last color on right) looked really nice. Those bright intense colors would not have been used in the chateau's heyday. Put something muted on the wall then use the bright color as an accent maybe. Terry's been right with all the colors so far, but I just don't see this blue green. Love all your work, you guys are making her beautiful again. Kudos to you all.

Terry, have you done any research about what colors were used on the Titanic? That might help you decide for the 401 Suite. The work you all perform with the tedious task of “filtering” makes all the difference in the splendid final results. So excited about a LaLacelle line of paints and wallpaper! Was impressed how Tracy navigated that ladder with both hands full. The evidence of her awesomeness is always apparent.

Try not to lose the age and character guys - you are at risk of creating something too Disney hotel otherwise. Acidic colours would be totally wrong imo so if you go green go much much softer more like the original colour on the panelling you are renovating? Maybe find fabrics then work to those colour palettes and no matchy matchy it jars terribly

I've seen some beautiful chateau rooms with a lighter shade of the last grouping of 3 colors... the one on the far right. That one is similar to a sky blue. The beautiful rooms I've seen are more like a Robin's egg blue and cream. It's much lighter. Vivienne used a pretty icy blue shade in her fabrics in the bedroom where they put the bed in the corner catty-cornered. I dont recall the wall color. I agree with what others said that the turquoise seems more tropical. Of course we don't know your plans with the rest of the decor.😊

I should have added on my comment, that pale or quiet colors have their place too. I did mot quite make my point, that Terry and family should feel free to make their choices. I know they asked us, but I keep getting, from all the dearly loved chateaux I watch, that they sometimes feel a lot of pressure from their audience. My comment was meant to sympathize with both sides of the question. I do respect the comments made to my comment too. So…peace to all of us.

Be wary of to bright a color for this room. As you undoubtedly know, every time you turn a corner and the paint color reflects back on itself, it looks more saturated and intense. If it's already a bold color, it can feel overwhelming. Best wishes on a choice for this and for the wallpaper you want to create.

A soft yellow with gold accents might be a good option too. Could be done with white below and yellow gold above. I saw this in many castles in England with some tapestry’s to pull in the colors. It’s a neutral color and can be accented with anything with it.

Some great decorating colors: periwinkle (Benjamin Moore - "Oriental Iris" - looks soft blue in morning light & lavender at night), aubergine (high pigment/ reflective & high shine looks best and in a room w/ tons of light shifts, but if go too dark the color dies), chartreuse (best w/ shine - velvet, satin, high gloss), green apple (large wall areas - clean set-off w/ white), pink (varied layered pinks or entirely one on almost everything),. And, the most underrated - orange, specifically--"persimmon" - but must be reflective, either gloss/shellac /satin or velvet, it is stunning in a library w/ dark wood & a fire--the orange glows).

Amazing progress! The blue paint colors are vivid. Perhaps with the lush, rich red and gold bedroom, you could contrast with a calm, classic blue and white (wall & ceiling decorative detail) bedroom room, inspired by Robert Adams classic blue rooms in the great country houses of England. Some of the blue samples on the walls are a bit Disneyland in their intensity. I'm sure Terry has a vision, so the end result will be amazing. Crack on!

I agree with you. How can any of those garish colours align with a red and gold bedroom? Surely all the rooms in the suite should work well together in terms of their colour palette?

The blue purple at the doorway where you were sanding is a very beautiful colour and it would look awesome with touches of gold…

Terry, I like the one you like the middle one of the three. It just seems calmer to me but whatever you choose, I’m sure will be amazing. I can’t wait to see what you are going to do with this suite❤😊

I would go for Robins egg sort of shade, the bright colours are too modern and more beachy. However I am sure sense will prevail x

The middle brush stroke in the grouping of three is my favourite-it appears to be a blue/green with a touch of grey that softens the overall intensity of the paint colour...as always, the attention to detail is incredible...looking forward to the seemingly magical transformation of the 401 Suite.

There have been so many things you you’ve done where I thought, “Oh no! That’s going to look awful!” But in the end I’m always wrong. You know what you’re doing, Terry, and have a vision I’ll never have. I’m way more like Ashe in that regard. I can’t wait to see what you choose. I know it will be beautiful in the end. The 400 suite proves it.

Of the three colors shown at 5:54...The one on the left is very close to the well known jewelry company, Tiffanys', blue/green brand color. It is very pretty but that brand reference will always be there. And perhaps that is not a bad thing. I like the middle blue/green especially when taking into account the fireplace color. The thing I know about choosing colors is it rarely happens in a vacuum-fireplace surround, floor color, trim color and other "suite" colors are a consideration I am sure. I am thinking of The Red being used in the other room. It is so very intense that its "impression" will follow into the other rooms. Choosing a color that is harmonious and calming with The Red is the ticket. Oy. What a tough choice. I vote in a vacuum but I vote for the the green on the left. Go big or go home.

I love that chippy look with the green. Sort of faded shabby chic. Maybe a scandi avian look. Soft blues and creams.

I’m with the majority and think the softer blue is best, but I also think a rich cream color with gold accents would be so elegant and a nice compliment to the red that you plan to use in an adjacent room. But, whatever you do, I know that it will be beautiful.

I prefer the blue one on the right of the group of three colors. The greenish- turquoise are too in your face for me. BUT, if softened & lightened by adding white... probably fine. I imagine your secondary color could play a big role on how well it blends on your color selection. You will get it right. I appreciate seeing more of the work that goes into the restoration - liked Terry's explanations of what fillers he was using and why. So much hard work!!

The strong bright colours seem more leaning towards a childs room. I prefer the soft blue on the right, if you are really wanting a turkoise I suggest that you mute it with white by at least half .

On the wall with the three Blues I am with you on the middle one. The colours on the other wall remind me of colours used in the 60's . Not sure on them I know whatever you decide on it will look amazing.

It's really wonderful to see how much love and attention to detail you put into designing the rooms. After the completion of the 400-Olympic-Suite and the descriptions Terry has already made of the 401-Titanic-Suite, one can hardly wait to see more of it. Will there actually be a reference to Château to the last and mostly forgotten sister ship of the Olympic class, the Britannic (433)? Especially since it should surpass its sisters in terms of luxury.
