I'm surprised this isn't about Olivier Panis winning in Monaco... or Patrese winning in Monaco...

Penis kept his car on track while the likes of Schumacher didn’t, and while Patrese was lucky everyone in front of him disintegrated after he spun he didn’t exactly do as bad as baghetti imo

I would still put Pastor Maldonado above/below this. I doubt there's anyone in history that sees Giancarlo Baghetti's name and cringes or retches at the thought of him winning. But outside of Venezuela or Williams fans, is there ANYONE that cheered or looks back fondly at CRASHtor Maldonado's "win"? Cripes, the other drivers on the podium that day looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but standing beside him.

Maldonado won in a car that was sixth or seventh fastest throughout the season, he drove incredibly well. I suggest you watch my video on him. Here’s the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYGtqHZ8rZ5nqsksi=zw-oQyQLb5gw6mNW

haha I thought it was those victories when the leader conked out quite late in the race and the discreet 2nd place inherited the victory like Kovalainen at Hungary 2008, or Piquet at Canada 1991. But as they say, to win a race you must finish it

While Harrison's win is certainly one of NASCAR'S weaker ones, I would say Justin Haley's win in 2019 was the worst ever. His average running position was outside the top 30, he took the lead for one lap (the only lap his team led all season) because everyone else pitted, and then the race was called off due to lightning. That was absurdly lucky.

Panis made THREE on-track passes during green flags (never relying on pitstop undercuts), and traded fastest laps with Alesi, Hill, and Irvine throughout the race. Sure, he won by not crashing, but even without those crashes, he would have easily been top six, maybe even a podium. And a win wasn't impossible. .

I think there needs to be a distinction between the worst win and worst winner in F1. Copied from Wikipedia: “Citing the fragility of their cars and the dangers of the banking, the major British factory teams of the day-Lotus, BRM, and Cooper, all boycotted the event, leading to a cobbled together field of private entrants and Formula 2 cars. Because of this boycott by the British teams, none of the drivers who started the race had previously won a Formula One World Championship Grand Prix.” Everyone knows about 2005 Indy The worst winner is probably from a non-championship race run to F1 regs if you’re counting non-WDC races. I know Keke Rosberg won the 1978 BRDC International Trophy, which was basically a race of attrition in torrential rain and the next closest finisher had wing damage, but there has to be much worse wins.

@@the420secrets6 yea, 1960 Monza, 2005 US GP, and Spa 2021 are up there, but in those instances the winner played the cards they were dealt well. I believe Baghetti underperformed the potential of his car greatly and should’ve won by a comfortable margin

Keke Rosberg's 1978 BRDC win made Autosport Magazine's list of most incredible wins. A great win by any measure. First of all this was Keke Rosberg's 2nd ever race with a F1 car. Needless to say he was highly inexperienced. Meanwhile the entry list included champions like Lauda, Hunt, Andretti, Fittipaldi and seasoned winners like Peterson, Regazzoni, Ickx and Depailler. Second of all his car was a Theodore. It essentially was a F2 Ralt with a Cosworth DFV bolted onto it. Theodore was a hastily cobbled together constructor by the Hong Kong shipping magnate Teddy Yip who suddenly had an urge to enter F1 despite having zero experience in the auto trade. Yip owned casinos, hotels and real estate too and did well in those businesses so he had the money to spend. The Theodore TR1 was entered for the 1978 F1 season. The driver was 1977 F2 runner-up Eddie Cheever. As it were he had driven a Ralt F2 in the F2 series in 1977... Entered by Project 4 racing no less, which was run by one Ron Dennis who later merged with McLaren in F1. Cheever was 5,5 seconds off Andrettis pole time in the first race and didnt qualify for the race. The next race was the Brazilian GP which Cheever also didnt qualify for. This time 3,9 seconds off Petersons pole time. So they replaced Cheever with Keke Rosberg who qualified the Theodore 2,97 secs off Laudas pole and entered the race. So it certainly appeared as if Rosberg had it more than Cheever. The next race was the non-championship BRDC IT at SIlverstone. Keke Rosberg kept his cool and drove smart - something very rarely seen in an inexperienced F1 driver - and won the race. The conditions were dreadful and Rosberg therefore should have been among the very first to make a mistake and go out. He didnt. Many others far more experienced than him DID. As the track began to dry up Rosberg had but a narrow patch of drier racing line to defend from Emerson Fittipaldi. As the pressure mounted he could have been stressed into making a mistake. Happened to Vettel on the very last lap of the 2011 Canadian GP (and a few other races... But he didnt and won. Its little surprising Fittipaldi himself later hired him in 1980 to drive for his team alongside him. Rosbergs cool and smart driving won him the infamous 84 Dallas GP too. A watercooled skullcap certainly helped but his Williams Honda was nigh on undrivable. And he was 82 champion to in the 5th fastest car. Frank Williams said that Rosberg senior was the smartest driver who ever drove for them. He had good racecraft too, witness the video of him banging wheels with Gilles Villeneuve in his turbo Ferrari at Long Beach in 82... AND he managed a record fast 160+ mph qualifying lap at Silverstone in 85. With a slow puncture no less. This record stood for 17 years until Montoya improved upon it at Monza in 2002. An underrated F1 driver if there ever was one and the 78 BRDC was a great win. Hence why Motor Sport Magazine included it as one of their great wins. He was world champion material and proved it there. Was champion in 82.
