Some semi-rich dude in the 80s that builds a car from scrap in his garage and shows up 3 race weekends in a season isn't really a driver. Nikita was signed to a professional team as a full-time driver. The random dudes that wanted to enact their fantasies of being racecar drivers shouldn't count in these kinds of discussions. The money is the only positive reason for his inclusion, but no amount of money can force a truly bad driver into an F1 seat. He had enough merit to do the bare minimums. His performance in F1 itself however was another story. His long list of spins and aggrieved fellow drivers is what makes me consider his exit a positive event.
@ernestogasulla776311 ай бұрын
When kids who weren't even alive for most of F1 history make a "worst ever" list, you have to expect this. In 1972, the Lotus team raced with Emerson Fittipaldi and Dave Walker. Emerson won the WDC while Dave didn't score a single point. And not because of mechanical failures or accidents: he was amazingly slow. And that's for full season drivers. Al Pease holds the sad record of being black flagged for being too slow -only case in the history of F1. But he only raced a few isolated times.
@Jim-jz6tg9 ай бұрын
In fairness to Pease, in that race he was driving an outdated car at a time when F1 lap records were getting obliterated thanks to the recent innovation of aerodynamic wings (the Eagle he was driving didn't even have them!). Walker's not a bad shout, though. Phenomenal F3 driver, but couldn't get used to the more delicate throttle control required of an F1 car.

He was actually improving, and I think he could have been close to Mick in the next season. And Mick spun the car a million times as well. And why do you compare Kubica's results to his. He was in an Alfa, which was a point-scoring car. And what sexual assault? The woman said she let him do it, and they were just having fun. Quite a biased account of what happened.

Even if he is bad at driving, it's sad to see how he left the sports (due to politics). If war crime from their home country is a reason to ban sportsmen, US athletes should also get many problems. Not even mention Mazepin's efforts to make Latifi looks good. Once he is gone, Latifi is also gone....

People have an extremely short memory with sports or dont bother to look back at the history. Theres many drivers that were much slower than Mazepin, crashed more often and even got their super licence. How can he be the worst of all time when he doesn't even tick this box. I think youd get more than enough bad drivers from the pre qualifying days. Yuji Ide lost his licenece Chanoch Nissany: 'Well off the pace, Nissany span into a gravel trap before being craned off the circuit whilst still seated in his car because he couldn't remove his steering wheel.' Mazepin wasnt good but he was far far far away from the worst.

Even after looking on his F1 performance, i won't say that he is the worst. Mazepin's career began at the age of seven with karting. Until 2012, he trained at the Moscow karting school. In the period from 2011 to 2014, he took part in various karting competitions in the KF, KF2, KF3 and KFJ classes. In 2014 he became the silver medalist of the CIK-FIA World Championship in the KF class. In 2014, the 15-year-old driver made his debut in the open-wheel championship, taking part in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 series at the Lusail Circuit. In the second of four races, he took second place and scored 36 points in total. In the winter of 2015, Mazepin competed in the New Zealand Toyota Racing Series, where he took 18th place in the individual competition. In April[clarify] he became a driver for Josef Kaufmann Racing in the North European Formula Renault Cup 2.0. In one of the races of the stage at the Red Bull Ring he took third place, but overall he scored 125.5 points during the season and ended up twelfth. Mazepin also took part in seven Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup races as part of Josef Kaufmann Racing, but failed to score points in this tournament. In 2016, he spent a full season in the European Formula 3 Championship as a member of the HitechGP team, where he scored ten points in thirty races and became twentieth in the individual competition. In addition, he participated in several races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and the British Formula 3 Championship. In November, he took part in the Macau Grand Prix: in the first race he took 18th place, and did not finish in the second. In 2016, he signed a contract with the Force India Formula 1 team, under which he became a development driver. On July 12 and 13, he took part in tests at Silverstone, completing 104 laps in total. In 2017, he continued to participate in the Formula 3 European Championship. During the season, he stood on the podium three times (two of them at the Red Bull Ring), scored a total of 108 points and took tenth place in the individual competition. In 2018, Mazepin moved to GP3. Already in the first race in Barcelona he took first place, then won the first race at the Hungaroring, the second races in Spa and Yas Marina; As a result, during the season he stood on the podium eight times, scored 198 points and became the silver medalist of the championship. Since the 2019 season he has competed in FIA Formula 2. In 2020, he got two victories (he lost a victory in another race due to a penalty), and took 5th place in the championship.
