Congratulations on your newly fabricated bale unroller. When I first saw the price of one of Greg Judy's bale unrollers I thought the price was kinda high. Even allowing for the fact that you had to pay additional for rectangular tubing with greater wall thicknesses than was necessary to handle the largest round bales available, the cost of the steel was surprising. It's been some time since I last purchased steel. Watching this video made me realize that the price of one of Greg Judy's bale unrollers is a fair one. Thanks for the video. Congratulations to your daughters for learning to weld. Well done.

Thank you. I’m super pleased how it turned out. Greg’s are around $3,300 now and worth every penny if a guy needs one. I have about $800 and 16 hour’s of time in the build. That doesn’t include the half day getting the materials either. It was definitely worth it to me to build my own but, for most I’d suggest just buying one from Greg. His are still a good value and should last a lifetime. It seems I have to build everything myself for some reason. I figure I saved/paid myself $125 an hour to build it myself so it was definitely worth it. Also we had the added bonus of teaching my girls another skill. Thanks for watching Bruce

At 3:20 in your video the first mount for the bale spear is assembled. Looks like it’s not welded at all 90 degree angle. Is there a reason for that? Also what angle is it? I am looking to try and tackle Building my own Just trying to follow All of your tips. Thank in advance!!

The spears are welded at right angles to the tubing that supports them. Might be lens distortion🤷🏻♂️ hope it goes well for you. These things are game changers👍

I love this video! I've worked with my dad on projects all my life. He just took up welding about a year ago, have to get him to read me in on the basics. I want to do this project! What size pipe would you suggest (seeing as you used stuff stronger/heavier than needed due to supply options)?
@tickcreekranch Жыл бұрын
2x4x1/8” should be more than adequate. I might still use 3/16 or 1/4” for the frame sections that support the spindles and wheels though. 👍 Thanks Ms. Conrad

Thank you for making these videos! I’ve been wanting to build one of these for a while but have no real welding experience but I’m going to give it a shot. Where did you get the hub assembly’s?
@tickcreekranch2 жыл бұрын
That’s great! Practice welding on scrap steel till you can make a bead and let her rip! I got them at a local supply but, Amazon is hard to beat. 5 on 4.5 is my preferred bolt pattern. Lots of affordable options for wheels with tires mounted. Have fun with it!

This is far more efficient than spreading manure. Do you haul water in the winter or do your steers have a path to get back to a water tank?
@tickcreekranch2 жыл бұрын
Both. We have 5 Mirafount (freeze proof) auto waterers and 3 ponds. We run our animals in such small paddocks that we’re also forced to haul water at times also. The big project for the animals next spring is a water system that will allow us to have a mobile tank to service more than 80 paddocks.

I would like to have an unroller like that for sure. I think Gregs are 3000.00 now which is just too high and like you said you have to go get it or have it shipped so mo money still. Your work is really nice.
@tickcreekranch2 жыл бұрын
Oh shoot…I appreciate that. Thanks! I believe they are up to 3300 now. I have to give Greg all the credit for a great idea and design. I know there are other unrollers on the market but , none that make sense to chose them over Greg’s. I have to admit I’m addicted building stuff for myself instead of buying when possible. I figured this was worth it because the time invested worked out to $100 an hour savings. I understand not everyone has metalworking and welding equipment though. I subbed to a channel that has a super simple unroller build idea. I’ll try to find the link
